    This vid is like eating a gallon of ice cream all at once. arg. It's great. But I cannot remember 20% of it! I got to making the tree trunk texture in mtree on my own PC following along and then zoned out. Too much... for.. brain... at... one...... time..... This vid is def getting bookmarked. Man, I love the gnarly trunks that wind around but I wonder instead of this photogrammy stuff, can you not just make the trunk or tree in mtree into a mesh then subdivide the trunk and just sculpt it with sculpting brush back in Blender 3.5 or something? Thanks for this vid. Sad that this mtree doesn't work in Blender 3.5. Or I couldnt get it to work using the latest mtree. At least i can make a tree in 2.8 then use that in 3.5 I guess. thanks!!!

    • @BlenderSecrets
      @BlenderSecrets  Год назад

      Yes, you can Ctrl+A > Visual Geometry to Mesh and then sculpt on it (I assume - let me know if I’m wrong). I also have a trees playlist here on my channel, in case you want those topics individually. Or the book of course ;-)

      @@BlenderSecrets I'm just learning my way around Blender for fun. Trying to use free tuts and add-ons. I managed to model a tree using mtree in blender 2.8. I then copied the tree, leaves, and armature using CNTRL-C then just pasted that into Blender 3.5.1 and.... it WORKED. it even retained the animation. But I first converted to mesh inside 2.8 cuz I figured it might not paste otherwise. So, the animation works but some leaves get chopped during movement. They just disappear during render. That destroys the whole point and I don't know why or how to fix that. So I can sculpt the tree and add more trunk using another object and sculpting that then merging them I guess. Anyway... thanks for the video! Very helpful to see various methods.

    How long did it take you to learn these skills on your own? What is your educational background? How much experience do you have with this tool? You're amazing and I hope you don't mind my question. I just want to know to better set expectations for myself.

    • @BlenderSecrets
      @BlenderSecrets  Год назад +11

      I've been learning for many years, but I'm not that talented so it just takes longer I think. And when I started, there was no RUclips so I had to figure things out from things like CD-Roms and Magazines. I think if you're a young person learning 3D art now, you'll get good very fast, especially if you invest in some paid learning like good video courses. My educational background is unrelated, I studied film directing and digital postproduction. At that time, 3D was not something you could learn in school, at least not in Europe. Good luck!!

    Thank you for your incredibly well-done tutorial video here. I know how much work and effort it takes to make a wonderful video like this. RESPECT! QUESTION: 🙏 17:19 you set the viewport display of the particles to "Bounds". Then when you render, the full tree is rendered. I've been trying to get this to work in Blender for weeks! Does this work only with particle systems? Because when I choose ordinary objects in my scene and set the viewport display to "bounds" the object will not render with full geometry. Is there a trick to get this to work?🙏 In my case I have arrayed an object along curves in the scene resulting in 6000 instances of that object, and I want it to render fully, but display quickly as bounds. It doesn't work.

    • @BlenderSecrets
      @BlenderSecrets  Год назад +1

      Not very well unfortunately. That’s why I recommend in the video to work in 2.8 with MTree, and then just append those results in a new file in 3.X. You can have many Blender versions on your computer so it’s not that big a deal.
