kbm gamer here, smol tips for anyone came from previous souls game (ds3) you cant change menu keybind in elden ring, in ds3 i have my menu keybind on TAB key and i struggle for about 1 month after elden ring release because i cant change it, i found out there is key swap in the github (i forgot the name, might edit later) let you swap your specific key to another, but thankfuly my keyboard which is razer have their own program that let you swap key, so if your keyboard has that make sure to use it to your hearts content.
There are definitely ways to remap keys using third-party software like AutoHotKey or a keyboard specific software (Corsair, Razer, etc) that make it easier to perform swaps. Thank you for pointing this out!

Ive been watching so many invasion videos that its got me dying to get into it but as a kbm player i was starting to think it was a futile effort...glad to see there is someone doing it well ... I'm not experienced enough to have everything maximized yet but i was coming to the same conclusion about having your most frequent swaps in the middle of the screen so that its closer to the mouse pointer...i will definitely be watching your other videos on this topic... 🙏🏼
I use MKB, but on my mouse there are 4 macros that I bind to up, down, C (5 up), and V (5 down), so my inventory is layed out with different main weapon types horizontally, and ash weapons like moonveil, parry, bhs cleanrot, and stormhawk. Having mouse buttons lets your inventory have so much more versatility bcuz its weapons that you can swap to with no delay at all, and then I use mouse to swap to whole different setups. One very important thing about mouse and PS setups is having first weapon on Right hand 1, and second at Left hand 3, so you can swap both weapons faster than even on controller by placing the PS setups next to each other, so u can click, press Z, then click again in practically the same spot which is very very quick. Can you expand on this topic with PS swaps? What does Z do? And how does using the first slot on the right hand and third slot on the left hand make them closer? I'm not visualizing it right. 🙏🏼
@@fullmetalathlete When you enter your weapons menu from pressing escape and e twice, you will be on the slot that is called "Right hand 1". The buttons Z and X move these slots R1,2,3, L1,2,3. Pressing Z when on "Right hand 1" will go back 1 slot, which the game registers as the third slot on the left hand. This will allow you to equip something in the left hand by just pressing Z. If you want I can upload a video of some swapping to show you.

@@fullmetalathlete Yep, and with this you can get even faster armor swaps than on controller, if you just get the pattern down of clicking on the armor and pressing x and you dont even have to move your mouse. Same with talismans too.

Is there a way to set the menu button to something other than the escape button? Or did you just learn to use your pinkie on the escape button to open and close the menu quickly?
Its definitely a struggle in some regards. Sure, KBM players have an easier time free-aiming, but I am so envious of how fluid the movement is on controller. Y'all can do perfect spins on a whim while on KBM I have to precisely hit D>S>A or A>S>D otherwise I will pivot step and get locked in place.
@@RecusantRevan M+KB is really bad in Elden Ring. Camera movement is admittedly a big advantage, but during target lock it's only a tiny advantage, and during zoom-in the controller is actually miles better. The worst thing about M+KB (other than character movement, which is absolutely terrible) is that false inputs are being registered after an R2 input. I've tested it quite extensively and it's just ridiculous how poorly Fromsoft implemented this. A few weeks ago I've made the switch to the controller and it's like a night and day difference. In total there are two or three noticable downsides to the controller, but those are nothing compared to the downsides of M+KB. The only situation where M+KB always beats the controller is during platforming.

Hey Recusant, I just thought my keyboard mapping had problems, and I am now trying to find a more optimal way of using it (especially for the ashe of war like radhan bow or wildstrike that require an additionnal input during the AoW) I would like to know where did you map lock-on, weapon skill, and heavy attack on your KBM, please. Currently at 1000+ hours, so it will be a stiff re-learning process xD Previously, my lock on was on mouse-wheel-up, AoW on Wheel/middle mouse click, and heavy attack maj+right click... But now I am playing pure caster, I want to scroll my spells using the wheel
Hi Tete! Sure, my lock-on is also scroll wheel up, weapon skill is side mouse button 4, and my heavy attack is side mouse button 5. If you're focusing on spell casting then maybe you can swap lock-on to the scroll wheel button and keep spells as the scroll wheel up. Those should be the default settings for KBM and I think they'd be best for a caster.

I hate having the roll input on a keyboard key (I feel it unresponsive) so It will not work for me. But I appreciate! Your guides to hard-swaps are helpful and I thank you for the reply. You can't customize the menu keys like Esc and others in ER like you could in past titles. Instead you can use a program like AutoHotKey to make a simple script to rebind Esc to Tab. That will speed up the process a lot

KBM players have my respect. As an Xbox only player, I couldn't imagine trying to manage PvP on a keyboard.
