7 years ago this speech flipped a switch in me. At 23 I was a loser with no life goals, no dreams, working in fast food and failed all of my classes in my first 2 years of college and dropped out. I preferred to sleep, party, drink and play video games all night as a distraction from my failure. One night I stumbled on this and decided I needed to sacrifice what I was to be what I wanted to become, I sacrificed and struggled soo much and broke down because I had to study harder than anyone to pass classes that others breezed through. No matter how hard life got I put my success first and stopped quitting on life and on myself. In 7 years I went from a fast food cook to a Firefighter to an EMT to an Advanced EMT to a Paramedic and as of today a Registered Nurse graduate studying for my NCLEX national registry exam that i take in a week. I took all the lessons in this video to heart and molded my life around it. Studyng for this exam has been tough and life is beating me down once again trying to make me lose focus but no matter what MY SUCCESS COMES FIRST and I want to succeed more that I want to breath and sleep. Just needed to come back to watch it again for the thousandth time to regain focus
Thanks for sharing!! I use this video as daily motivation and affirmation. This is extremely life changing. I’m 31, Plant manager for a high tech corp. look, I’ve been told no maybe 100 times. I kept going, the fight in me is too great. I’m a mixed martial artist, so obstacles and being uncomfortable are my best friend. I embrace these things.
I watched and listen to this man and his speeches all college. I cried to them. I shook my head to them because I thought I couldn’t be what he was speaking of. In 2 days I’m graduating with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN). I have a job ready in the ICU. I did it. I cannot believe I did it. Thank you Eric Thomas for motivating me when I was crying on my knees.
Congratulations on receiving your Bachelors degree Mariah. That's a great accomplishment, Eric has also motivated me in doing the same. Finishing my degree in business is important to me, I'm glad I share the experience with someone else.
To those listening this. This speech has got me thru nursing school and is helping me get on the road to medical school. Pain is temporary, success is forever.
I listened to this throughout my nursing program... thinking that I was not going to make it because I always thought I was not smart enough.. and I would cry every single time and now I’m 3 weeks away from graduating. Edit: I graduated the nursing program and passed my boards! I am now a nurse! 🙌🏽

@Brother Dude lemme tell u something my grandfather told me depression and sucidal is all In the head it's mad up to keep u down to keep you from what's infront of u it's what u use because you don't want to move on from the situation that got u
At the end of high school, I was told I was going to be nothing more than a immigrant farmer. I listened to this near every week. I’m now a student at one of the top medical schools in the country. Never let anyone tell you the limit.
Something similar with me. I had some teachers tell me I wouldn't be shit because I told them they weren't teaching us by giving us assignment packets and sitting at their desk. Graduating soon with a PhD in engineering. I sent them emails inviting them to my dissertation, only one accepted the offer. But she was the only one out of the others who saw something in me, and tried to get me to see that.
When I got out of the army in 2012 a senior leader told me I would be a security guard and nothing more.. I'm in veterinary school about to become a doctor. It took me many years to get to this point but it's never too late. There's a light In all of us that lesser beings try to diminish. Drive on and stay focused people
End of my freshman year of college I had a GPA of 2.6 and I also failed a subject that same year. I knew something had to change. Due to some personal reasons and change of wind I listened to this video over and over for the whole year. Every night when I thought of well I studied for more than 10 hrs now and I should stop I would listen to this and pick myself up to work even harder. By the end of my sophomore year I had score over 3.7 GPA is both my semesters and also gotten approval to make more courses getting out of probation. That’s the power of this video!!!
your story is amazing , thanks for sharing. a couple years ago i was starting my freshman year in community college, it was awful but i kept my mind set. so each time i would study , i’d put this on repeat and just let it play. at the end, i was able to achieve a 4.0 gpa and transfer into one of new york’s top university. after i succeeded in this, i began to gradually forget about this video and it hurt my grades in my new university. now, it’s back on repeat and reminding myself of how hard i worked to get here. hopefully i can bring my gpa back up :)
I came here, after watching your Motivation video bro(Chicago tour).,right now I am in Albany(US) studying masters, I came to USA after watching your videos. One day I will definitely meet you, once I got a good job and will come to wherever ur in US.
Bro Ga doesn't matter what school you come from, how smart you are, it's about HEART! is your heart in it? Is your heart truly about being successful? Are you truly striving to Triump? That's what he means bro.
Depends on the situation. I don't care how much heart you have, how much faith you have in yourself, if you don't have the vocal cords to sing, you cannot sing. So, first be realistic with oneself, then go forward.
It's 2AM right now and I just finished the work for today. I have to be up in 4 hours to continue. This video is taking 14 minutes away from my 4 hour sleep. "If you want to be successful, then you have to be willing to give up sleep." I think it's worth the 14 minutes.
Well according to him you should be working. Get up off your ass and go get a second and third Job. The human body apparently doesn't need sleep. It's for the week. We should all work 7 days a week 24 hours a day
The only statement I didn't agree with. I work and go to school. In the days I go to bed late and get little sleep Because of work it then takes a toll off my learning the next morning in school. I see the same for others who do full time and school. But I understand the intention behind the statement.
Swear to god, I listened to this everyday for 2 years ands I went from a construction worker making 30k a yr to 100k. As long as you realize i need to show people what your worth you have an opportunity to be successful.
+BethanyGraceMusic Good luck. I've been through A levels, ended up moving to Australia and now I'm in one of the best Uni's for Law. I'm also doing a double degree, Law & Commerce. you got it
I watched this every night studying and doing work to get my engineering degree like 5 years ago. I was the first in my family to go to college & join the military. Such a powerful message. Since then I am now a military veteran, established in my career, found God, and still use this video as motivation to become a better me. Thank you for leaving this up. If you're reading this, don't give up. It will feel that much better at the finish line. God bless.
Being smart is not enough you to have smart. Thank you have change my life I was once poor, no job, homeless, and no future. I saw this video in 2013 in a shelter. Today I make over $100,000, I own a house, wife and beautiful daughter. Thank you ET.

Since you are very lucky, I'll tell you one thing, search on Instagram @wicksdontlie and @uncle_ted_ these guys made a path for me, but you also have to practice a lot on the charts, wish you the best. I was fat, dropped out of college, and depressed. I needed to hear this over 10 years ago. I remember I would force my ass to get up at 5 am to go lift and I would listen to this. While I'm a single dad, I've been able to get into the best shape of my life, and soon graduating with a PhD in engineering. I am proud of myself and at the end of the day, it truly is all about working hard. I would work 100+ hours a week to be successful with my studies and research, and I never took my daughters time away from me. Was it difficult? Fuck yeah. But it was worth it, and I am a better man for forcing myself to not shy away from challenges. There was not one person who outworked me. I would be the first one in my building by 6:00 a.m. I would be the last one out by 7 pm and go work out before heading home. Sunday evenings when my daughter went home to her mother, I would meal prep all my lunches and dinners.
Men .. That was the man that changed my life . For all of you watching this video and asking yourself "what am i doing with my life ? " , i was one of you .. I Have never tried something in my life so when I finished high school i didnt went to college . I Just stayed in my town doing nothing .. Well , after 2 long years of studying i went to college .. I am proud of me so is my mom and my friends . excuses are for weak people , are you weak ? 7:10 "The most important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what you are for what you will become." Wow. This really resonated with me.
I’ve been listening to this for 10 years. In recent years I’ve been afraid of revisiting it because I was uncomfortable with confronting some things. I knew this video would make me confront things. I’m here now.
This speech never gets old. It got me thru 4 years of Pharmacy School, and I'm now about to make six figures with my job offer.. I was pregnant my first year of pharmacy school and I didn't know how I was gonna make it with 2 kids. I spent countless days not sleeping to become a Doctor of Pharmacist and graduated with honors. With self-motivation any thing is possible. Thank you ET from the bottom of my heart..
I was doing push ups during this and when he said "when you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe then you'll be successful." I did 50 and straight and nearly passed out and waited a seconded replayed it even louder and did another 50...
Jimmy Seeley Great inspiration keep up the hard work I feel your pain im 110 pound as a sophomore and do pushups everyday listening to this and will keep going thanks bro
7 years later and I’m back for more motivation! Just returned from Nigeria. I made my dream a reality. I sacrificed a lot of sleep in preparation for this journey. I went alone and I’m proud of myself!
ET man you've done so much for me. I remember working at McDonalds while in college just trying to survive and help my mom with the bills. I would watch this video every day and just cry because of everything going on in my life. I cant tell you how many times I'd be studying at home after getting off a 12 hour shift and have the electricity turn off, or not being able to wash my hands or flush the toilet because the city shut our water off, or sweating in our house because we dont have enough to repair the ac. I remember moving houses I remember seeing my mom and 4 siblings cry because we didn't have food or didn't know if we were going to make it by Friday which was payday. But I pushed through and graduated in May with a Bachelors degree in Accounting and a minor in finance with highest honors (3.94 GPA). I got a job at an accounting firm and things are looking a little better for us. You're a big reason why I made it to where I am. I'm not going to stop, this is just the beginning.
@@jazz93 this is a prime example of small mindedness every one els could hear the powerful message regardless of any music but there will always be people out there ready to look souly for the bad things to call themselves different in some sort of way. This speech changed my life. I went from 8th-grade level math in 2014 to starting my third year in University this September. Believe every word this man says he is right.
My high school football coached showed us this video after a tough loss the next day while watching film. This video got me on a chokehold since 2016. Always a video I go back to at anytime.

This speech changed my life. I was 15 and didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. After hearing this speech I became crazily ambitious and motivated and decided to pursue entrepreneurship. Now I’m 19, drive my dream car, and make more than 99% of Americans. Thank you ET. I still listen to this every once in a while to remember why I started.
I been watching this video since it dropped in 2015 im 28yrs old and have watched this video anytime I start to get discouraged or even when I’m motivated to stay motivated in life and till this day I still watch this video to get through hardships in life.
I’ve been listening to this for the last 10 years. Incredible. Probably listened to this 2,000 + times. Focus your mind on breath and whenever something is hard you realize you are breathing easy and get through it. You don’t want it bad enough. Watch what it says: to be able to AT ANY MOMENT to sacrifice what you are for what you will become.
This was the first motivational video that I've seen 4 years ago that led me to discover other motivational speakers, led me to read books, see new things and ideas, that all contributed to the most important thing which is discovering who I am and what I'm capable of. I want to leave this comment for those who are starting to build themselves at this moment, and if there's one advice that I can give is that success is not something that you pursue it's actually something you attract, BELIEVE in yourself, Work hard and focus on what's important for you. Peace
I found this speech when I was 17 years old. I was getting ready to go to college, I was young dumb, and in retrospect I was spoiled, but I was damn sure I did not want to have to bust my ass every day until I was 70 just to put food on the table for my family. I began my electrical engineering degree the following year, and frequently returned to this speech when it was difficult. Everything this man says in this video became reality for me. I am currently 23, and got that degree. I failed classes. I lost jobs. I lost close friends, but I was damn sure I was not going to suffer forever. I am confident in saying that without this masterpiece of wisdom, I would not be standing where I am today. In a beautiful house, making more money than anyone in my high school class. It does take heart. It does take sacrifice. You cannot only kind of want it. The only advise I can pass on to those who are here struggling, is to stop wasting the opportunities that are in front of you. Whatever those opportunities are, you are capable of them and more. Good isn't good enough if it can be better. Better isn't good enough if it can be best.
2021 and I’m still coming back to listen to this man of a man telling me I kind of want it. And helping me to push through everything to become the person I will be.
Once listened to this video junior year of high school with 2.7 GPA. coming back to this video 6 years later, Now I'm a Mechanical Engineer at one of the top companies in the country while also working on my Masters. Thank you ET!. KEEP GRIND EVERYONE.
I was in my 2nd year at college. All my "friends" had abandoned me, I was failing most of my classes, and felt my life going no where. I was alone, and felt hopeless, and knew I had to do something to change my life. This video got me through that time. It motivated me to be relentless and study non-stop and to stop worrying about being alone and pleasing other people. My next 2 years in college were my best academically, and I made deans list all the quarters for both of those years. I even got A+'s in some of the hardest courses (looking at you organic chemistry), all because I decided I wanted to succeed as bad as I wanted to breathe. I didn't care about anything or anyone, I wanted to succeed. And the sleep thing is so true. I can't tell how how many nights I spent in the engineering lab on campus where I didn't even go home, I would just study non-stop the whole night until the next morning where I would go to class again and repeat the whole cycle. I was cold, alone, and tired at those moments, but I knew what I was doing was the right thing. Glad to say I graduated college, made some good friends now, and have a good job making 6 figures. Thank you Eric Thomas for getting me through one of the darkest periods of my life.
Bouta start a new job. I come back to this every now and again. This isn’t just motivational it’s eye opening!! Got an opportunity to make a dream become a reality!!!!!
Was planning on quitting highschool my junior year and just getting my GED. Then he said "you are already in pain! Get a reward from it!" Damn that hit me hard.
I thought the same thing just last year as i was 20 turning 21 and hadn't graduated but aftet listening to ET i worked so hard in 6 months i made up 8 classes and graduated without a GED just a diploma so listen to me when i say you can do this

I remember my 10th grade P.E teacher showing my class this when it first came out.. 2 years later I am a ranked 6th amomg all seniors at my high school for best GPA . 9th and 10th grade were average grades (B's and C's) but 11th grade I got straight A's , and now in 12th grade I have 5 AP classes with A's in all of them besides AP Calculus which I have worked my ass off just for a B. I am proud where I am today and I have started to work out after getting bullied for so many years about my weight, I have now lossed over 45 pounds and I have gained so much muscle over this past year . thank you so much Eric Thomas for changing my life .. I will continue to WANT MORE for the rest of my life.
J.Anderson The2nd i just saw this bro, I’m going into my 3rd year at UCSB for a degree in computer science! I’m just a kid from the hood who’s trying to give his family a better life. Don’t ever let someone tell you you can’t do something. If you want it. GO GET IT.
“Pain is temporary, it may last for a minute, an hour, a day or even a year. But eventually, it will subside, and something else will take its place. If by quit however, it will last forever.” The most powerful quotation I’ve ever heard in my life.
Dropped out of high school 11th grade Now 30 years old I’m finally graduating with my high school diploma next Friday… this video has helped me more then you can imagine Thank you!!!!!!!!
I was failing college and didn’t know what to do with my life when I first saw this video. I used to wonder where I will be in 5 years. Fast forward 6 years later I graduated and started a successful business. I never thought I would be doing what I do now. If you are failing right now and unsure what your future holds. Be patient and enjoy the journey. Sometimes you don’t see it coming but you will see it go. Everything will workout in time. Keep believing and keep going. There will be moments you fall and question it all. But it never ends please take care of yourself as you reach for your dreams because it’s easy to get lost along the way. Just know that no matter where you are in your journey there is love and success. I didn’t see that then but I see that now. Love and peace ❤
I am graduating at the end of the year, at the age of 29. Something that has been helping me get through this has been the “it took me 12 years to get a 4 year degree” line. Probably watched this close to 750 times, so thank you for posting this.
My little brother showed me this video before he passed away from suicide after 21 years of laughs and tears. 1 year, 5 months and 19 days later late at midnight, I thought of that moment and at this current time of 24 years here, I'm trying to start my own auto business with a degree in automotive technology. Erick Thomas knows what he's talking about. I was in school when my brother passed and I damn near failed but I fought through it because I knew I couldn't give up. It wasn't an option. My brother was in my corner always and he dared me to take a lil pain. I miss him every second and at the same time, the fight makes me that much stronger. You guys can do it, no matter what it is💯
Four years ago I listened to Eric Thomas. This speech and this music. It helped me develop into the man I am today. I know I am not half the man ET is or my father was, but because of people like ET and those who spread his message (@Nathan Scaglione) I am filled with excitement and gratitude for life. I listened to ET during finals week of my first semester in college. Ended semester with a 3.46. I graduated now. Despite my GPA dip, I am proud of my grades. "You won't be successful until I don't have to give you a dime to do what you do." I don't know what I am doing in life yet, but I look forward to it. Anyone who is reading this: I wish you the best. Life will be tough but working together is so important in life. I love you for you. God bless you. AGAPE
Everything he said is 100% accurate. You have to struggle and sacrifice to achieve your life dreams. Some ppl are just too lazy and lack ambition...a result of poor upbringing...
the lack of ambition is seen everywhere in the world, only those with the true motivation to strive everyday will recieve the vision. making it easier for us.
I love this speech. It's the most powerful I've ever heard. I listen to it every time I feel like I can't do something or if I need a boost to keep going on a project or just a boost for life in general
Been watching this video since I was a Sophomore, and I'm now a Senior in college. At my lowest points in life I watched this video, and it never failed to push me to do great things! Thank you

I know this is old, but definitely don't give up. You CAN do. My adviser told me one time to "C your way through the class sometimes" if you catch my drift. Don't be afraid. Don't just study, KNOW your material. Know your study method and cut out distractions, even if that means people/friends.
When I was 16 my parents got a divorce and I started failing school and abusing drugs. I BARELY passed high school. I took a year off after graduation now I am sober and finishing up my third semester in college with a 4.0 gpa all three semesters. My entrance exams for dental hygiene are in two weeks. I got this. You have to want it bad enough. End of story.
When no one believes in you; you have to motivate yourself. This was the first motivational video I ever heard when I was in community college exactly 6 years ago with a GPA of 1.4. I never felt I was good enough compared to others and always was intimidated by the smart kids in the classroom. However, I was hungry and was willing to put as many hours as it took to make it. Today my diploma in B.S in Accounting arrived on the mail and I am in tears of joy how far I have become. Not only have I received my diploma, but I have also started working in my field of study. Whoever is reading this; don’t let anyone put limits on you and ignore everything and focus on yourself. You will accomplish anything you want if have a true and small circle of friends and family.
Iam watching this during study. Iam busy now for 10 hours on a row. Now I am asking him... talking to my screen ...if I can go to the toilet for a moment. God its really getting to me

Found this video in high school and changed my life, people thought I wouldnt be anything, failing out of school, realized after seeing this, I need to make changes, so I repeated courses, stayed after class, got tutors, and graduated, and after all of that, I Wanted More, went to college, graduated with 3.7, found out after all of that I had severe ADHD, that’s not a excuse anymore. Everyone who said I wouldnt be anything still living at there parents house, I got a career, nice house, new truck, no one thought I’d be here not even my parents, I didn’t think I could either, but I figured if I fail and fail and fail eventually I would succeed, through all of that I’m not successful yet. But I got this far, it motivates me even more, I will reach my goals, im 40k from making 6 figures, it will happen. I Sacrifice what I was for me to become.

Commander Wolffe _ dude I was running listening to this and fought back tears when I heard that part. Powerful words.
Commander Wolffe _ im just asking but can you explain what he means?
Bro Ga doesn't matter what school you come from, how smart you are, it's about HEART! is your heart in it? Is your heart truly about being successful? Are you truly striving to Triump? That's what he means bro.
Depends on the situation. I don't care how much heart you have, how much faith you have in yourself, if you don't have the vocal cords to sing, you cannot sing. So, first be realistic with oneself, then go forward.

It's 2AM right now and I just finished the work for today. I have to be up in 4 hours to continue. This video is taking 14 minutes away from my 4 hour sleep. "If you want to be successful, then you have to be willing to give up sleep." I think it's worth the 14 minutes.
keep going bro💯
Well according to him you should be working. Get up off your ass and go get a second and third Job. The human body apparently doesn't need sleep. It's for the week. We should all work 7 days a week 24 hours a day
The only statement I didn't agree with. I work and go to school. In the days I go to bed late and get little sleep Because of work it then takes a toll off my learning the next morning in school. I see the same for others who do full time and school. But I understand the intention behind the statement.

Thanks for sharing your story. Feel proud of what you did and remember: the journey has just began.

Still….

There will be moments you fall and question it all. But it never ends please take care of yourself as you reach for your dreams because it’s easy to get lost along the way. Just know that no matter where you are in your journey there is love and success. I didn’t see that then but I see that now. Love and peace ❤

You guys can do it, no matter what it is💯
Just curious, how's it going so far?
I want to become an emergency room nurse but people say I can't do it. Classes are getting difficult. I'm starting to become afraid of taking tests. It's not easy. I'm not giving up
Update June 2022: I graduated nursing school. I am going to be a nurse.

I know this is old, but definitely don't give up. You CAN do. My adviser told me one time to "C your way through the class sometimes" if you catch my drift. Don't be afraid. Don't just study, KNOW your material. Know your study method and cut out distractions, even if that means people/friends.
Just do it
Don't give up! I have been where you are. keep going it's worth it. sleepless nights but it pays off
I hope you overcame the fear, if not power through it.
Congrats🙏🏾 You got this!!
Congrats I’m sure both of your parents are very proud of what they raised god bless💙😎
Update: I passed my entrance exam with an 89 and I’m starting dental hygiene school in a month
Joseph Dimond I’m sure they finally are
Congratulations.
God its really getting to me
I regret what I did today.... I slacked off in school today and I realize I can't be doing that man... Thank you for this video

I can’t count how many times I’ve seen this video since my freshman year in high school (2012) through my 5 years of college and graduating with a bachelors of science in mechanical engineering in 2021. It was not easy but I thank God for sending help like Eric Thomas.
When i was young, depressed and my dreams seemed out of reach this speech kept me going. This is the best motivation
"I dare you to fail." Thank you Eric. We love you
I got shot twice been in a wheelchair almost 4 years. Was scared to walk again. I didn't give up at all. Sold drugs went to jail. Trying to provide for my family. Got a real job i didn't give up. Been listening to this since highschool got me through that now I’m an adult and still listen to this when I need that extra kick to get my day going
