      I've told this story before but it bears repeating. When I was in junior high (7th or 8th grade, early 1980's), the history teacher was a Lost Causer who praised Wilson as being one of our best Presidents. When I got to High School, the 10th grade history teacher set aside an entire lesson that was could have been subtitled "Why (the previous teacher) was an idiot and Wilson is one of the worst Presidents." This was a small school so the men would have shared the teacher's lounge every day 🙂

      @edm240b9 2 года назад +1

      @@PolishHussar04 nope. The Maxim silencer (that was the name of it) was the first true suppressor put onto the market. Suppressors were experimented on the 1903 and other rifles even before and during the First World War.
      WWII actually saw somewhat “widespread” usage among suppressors. You had the SOE and OSS with their respective suppressed pistols (Welrod, High Standard HDM), the Sten MKII(S) and suppressed M3 Grease Gun also were part of the Allies. The Soviets also used what was known as the Bramit suppressor fitted onto the Mosin Nagant for sniping purposes, and it was even copied by the Germans and used on the K98k. None of these were fielded in insanely large numbers, but they did exist and were used during the war.
      Wide proliferation of suppressors the way many tier 1 fighting forces use was only a recent thing though.

    Wilson was such a prime example of the holier than though personality.

    you mentioning how Wilson never wanted to negotiate and how it can't be any other way but his reminds me of the scene in matlida where the dad says: "I'm smart you're dumb I'm big you're little I'm right you're wrong and there's nothing you can do about it"

    Some American army units still have insignia that contain a blue french ww1 helmet to commemorate the time they were folded into french forces.

    one of my fav millitary quotes. “Even if I wished to surrender, and I don’t, I am commanding Australians who would cut my throat if I accepted your terms.” COL Charles Hore, Commander at the Elands River Post in response to a request from Boer GEN Jacobs Koos de la Rey to surrender. The 500 Australians and Rhodesians were outnumbered 3 to 1. Lord Kitchener went on to say, “Only colonials could have held out and survived in such impossible conditions”.

    Another way to say your aside at 34:00 is: Wilson was a revolutionary, not an incrementalist. Great video as always

    The armchair historian has new content with the signature art that looks awesome: yeah, looks cool and interesting but I have two kids that need to be put to bed, dishes to do and work that’s overdue. Chris watches the new armchair historian video: life can wait for 40 min

    Only one thing about the video's pin. That American on the cover is actually a United States Marine, and he's wearing army tabs.

    I think what's interesting is the repetition of history how this whole situation, is eerily similar to the current situation in Ukraine

    I have a theory on why Perishing sent the African American soldiers to the French. I could be totally wrong but I think Pershing knew they would be treated as equals by the French instead of lesser by the Americans.

    I just discovered a criminally undersubscribed called Civil War: Wild West Edition that you should react to. It doesn't even have 500 subscribers.
