Joni is unbelievable. No matter what medium Joni uses, (paints, voice, piano, guitar. . ) she seems to be able to communicate what each of us feels but has a hard time expressing. Joni is absolutely timeless and always will be.
You are completely "fucking" out of your mind 😂 She was nothing special, if she were special she would create every song as a HIT, but she didnt, so don´t make her an idol. It´s more amazing to know Yahwe Elohim incarnated 2000 years ago, that´s the real WOW-thought.
Joni Mitchel is the finest lyricist of our generation. Nobody constructs word like Joni can. A consummate star in the true sense. Anybody who has ever tried to write a songs must apprecaite just how advanced her ability is. Love this song has been with me for most of my adult life, and it still sounds fresh and potent.
"I drew a map of Canada/Oh Canada/And your face sketched on it twice" Her lyrics are SO f*cking intriguing, and this line isn't just because I'm Canadian...You can read so much into every line. So many modern Canadian poets only wish they could write like this...
I have been a Joni Mitchell fan for many many decades. Joni, along with Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, Mary Travers and Buffy St. Marie ~ are folklore in 60's folk music. I know the younger generation(s) get tired of us 60's retreads talking about how that time, and place, was as good as it ever got in music but sometimes, if you tell the truth, it just comes out that way. As much of a cleshay as this might be ~ God I am so pleased that I was there and lived in that moment.
Shanda N. -Yes !!! And then her breathing was also perfect.. Only a few have this Angelic, perfect voice with amazing range that Joni Mitchell has.. And so, so, talented on many instruments ! Her beautiful piano accompaniment on her song "River" was amazing ! She took the song " Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the Way" and wove this so beautifully using all kinds of other notes, but left it just "clear" enough so you would hear that "Christmas" song she was talking about in the first few lines of this also amazing song.. And then at the end, she played "Jingle Bells" again, but used different notes than the intro !!! Who does that !!!! No ONE !! I was 20 years old when this came out, and I thoroughly enjoyed those awesome years in Northern California.. Joni Mitchell lived at that time, in Laurel Canyon, a beautiful place in Southern California, as did a lot of very talented people who also made the most beautiful music.. If you can find them, there was a great photographer back then who took the most beautiful pictures of Joni Mitchell when she lived in this little house in Laurel Canyon, California.. I think his last name was Dilts or something like that.. Just perfect black and white photos of this Angel, Joni Mitchell !! Happy New Year, Shanda N. !!! frandanco from California
Wonderful. I somehow only recently heard her album "Blue" (and I'm in my 30's) from 1971, and I was BLOWN AWAY. Such beautiful melodies, such intricate songsmithing. She plays piano, guitar, dulcimer, sings like an angel. That album is now on my top ten. Check it out if you haven't already.
"I remember that time you told me, you said "Love is touching souls" Surely you touched mine, 'cause Part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter And so sweet, oh I could drink a case of you, darling Still, I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet" In my opinion, the most beautiful sequence of lyrics ever written about love lost.
i can't number the times i saw you in concert and your music etched so deeply in my heart and soul and the greatest gift from that is that all four of my children praise you and your words. for me.... a simple person, that means the world. thank you so very much...
This is probably my favourite song of all time. The song is so simple yet so complex at the same time. And the lyrics reveal such depths of emotions yet unpretentious. Similarly Joni's voice and the way she sings, just so naturally; yet filled with such intense emotions. It is a unique masterpiece.
I've worked in music for almost 38 years. I've become somewhat jaded. There are very things left that can still bring a tear to my eye. This tune is one of them. I forgot how beautiful her paintings are as well. There are women & then there are WOMEN.
This is a wonderful slideshow. Joni is the greatest artist of her generation. She is a Canadian treasure. This is a beautiful reminder to anyone who may have forgotten.
I suppose all the sufferings in my life brought me to finally hear her music at 50 yrs old. I've been isolated and I feel like I found home in her voice. I can rest now.
Always loved Joni, always will. This is a great collage of her life - so willing she is to bare herself to all of the world. That, my friends, is true courage, and true love..
Ahhhh Joni. Saw her live when she opened for Bob Dylan. Such an iconic Canadian and all-round amazing person. An oasis of poetry and thoughtful lyric writing in a world overrun with total crap. Thank you Joni, for all the fabulous music that is tied to so many memories.
I'd like to dedicate this comment to my good friend, the late JB., who taught me everything Joni. One day, on the Strip, back in the 70s, he saw his music-art-spirit-goddess, Joni, sitting at a table (was it at the Whiskey? I forget). He was just out of high school, alienated, gay, brilliant, shy. They chatted about guitars, music, and whatnot. She must have recognized a young, fellow artist. She gave him the time of day. It meant so much to him. Two brilliant souls talking steel guitar.
Even though she drew from her own life...her voice...and those delicious lyrics touched all our souls. Nothing remotely like her. My musical inspiration and connection with this beautiful gifted human being was profound...I played them all.
I've loved Joni Mitchell since I was sixteen; that's back to 1971. Ms. Mitchell taught be how to write. I adore her lyrics and these lyrics belong to the heart of of a writer. Only a writer could write like this. A treasure. Thank you.
Just before our love got lost you said "I am as constant as a northern star" And I said, "Constantly in the darkness Where's that at? If you want me I'll be in the bar" On the back of a cartoon coaster In the blue TV screen light I drew a map of Canada Oh, Canada With your face sketched on it twice Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and so sweet Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling And I would still be on my feet Oh, I would still be on my feet Oh, I am a lonely painter I live in a box of paints I'm frightened by the devil And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid I remember that time you told me You said, "Love is touching souls" Surely you touched mine 'Cause part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and so sweet Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling And still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet I met a woman She had a mouth like yours She knew your life She knew your devils and your deeds And she said, "Go to him, stay with him if you can but be prepared to bleed" Oh, but you are in my blood You're my holy wine You're so bitter bitter and so sweet Oh, I could drink a case of you darling still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet
A bitter and an unhappy woman . Beautiful words and so lovely but so what you don't want as that a man. And I am 65 and I know what I am talking about . Sorry but that level of neuroticism cannot be put up with, much as I love this song.
....and so am I. What a fantastic song eh? I still remember when this song was so....explosive and personal to me. Glad I can listen to it again. Joni and this song....just amazing!
I understand to each their own, but to dislike this song? My God, the lyrics are simply brilliant, the tune is melodic, I don't get it......I listen to this song several times a week to simply marvel at the simpleness yet complexities all in this song by her!!!!! Go Joni!!!!!!!
What a fantastic song eh? I still remember when this song was so....explosive and personal to me. Glad I can listen to it again. Joni and this song....just amazing!
I like that this video and Blake's have similar views. This pleases me greatly, as I've loved Joni since I was a boy. I love you mother, thank you for showing her to me.
i was a die-hard fan back in the day-even took up dulcimer. moody, dreamer and totally romantic. I finally manaaged to give her a bottle of Moet when she was going off-stage and the Anaheim convention center and that was it-i had done all a fan could do and i went on with my life. didn't get into her jazzy later stuff but just hearing this song brings it all back. Wow. Thanks.
in 1970 .. I sat in the psych ward play room.. listening to her sing on my little record player .. clinging to the sound of her voice..i was just a pinnochio ..all strung out and lost and afraid .. but you rocked me in your arms my sister.. I thank God for you.
I feel all of us that love Joni's songs and lyrics are kindred spirits as I have loved Joni's music since the '60s when I graduated from college. I totally agree with you as I have never found another spirit like hers that always sings to my heart. Joni Mitchell is the harbinger of intricately woven tapestry of feelings thoughts and melody that creates a cocoon for your soul to find respite So many time in my journey i reached for her music and with it found the place in myself tht pure love resides..I thank you for all that you have painted both in music and art..my thought and prayers are with you ..thank you so much for your work
+kelly simpson Prince adored her ,,it was the subject of his songwriting,,he was highly influenced by Joni,,thoughtful, worry, hope, putting words together making others happy. She is the best.
Joni Mitchell songs are so often attached to the bittersweet memories, they pull them up out of the darkness like smokey dreams. Then the song ends and the vision slowly disperses and you are back in your chair again. It's a glamour in the old sense of the word, a very old form of magic.
Jewel wrote "I remember a friend in high school playing me "A Case of You," from Blue. I could tell that Joni was a painter by the way she wrote lyrics. She describes smells and sounds and uses fewer words to transmit more feeling. Her melodies are about shapes. The singing lines are slow, steep plateaus. One of the things I learned from Joni: If you can tell the story and keep things moving, you don't need to return to the chorus on time."
Slowly songwriters and singers are coming back to poetry lyrics```change comes and adjustment```however no matter how moderne the heart never changes and it is songs like this that will be forever remembered.
im 31 and ive heard big yellow taxi didnt know who it was and today found out it was her, always heard her name knew of heard but this is my first real listening of her and there is something so humble about her singing....
This is the way of life: in every human endeavor, in the career of every genius, there is a moment of convergence. In that moment the artist is able to transcend limitation, and achieve something above what we live with every day. Some artists are able to do this many times, but that is very rare. Joni hit her greatest moment of convergence when she recorded this material, and she has recognized it. She has said that making "Blue" almost killed her. And this is the best of "Blue." Her greatest.
Breathe-taking! What a showcase of Joni. What's amazing about Joni is that she is the master of so many disciplines. Art, music, poetry, multiple instruments. A voice quite unlike any other. Thanks so kindly for posting!
We are all so lucky to be in the same world on this planet during her lifetime. I saw her perform in Berkley at the "Bread & Roses" yearly concert. She performed solo and with Herbie Hancock-1977 or 78. What a blessing she is.
Joni paints in immortal ink the soul of love. I would want to feel this way about my groom, and I would play this song for him. For I would be so consumed with emotion I could not get through the words. Genius.
Joni is unbelievable. No matter what medium Joni uses, (paints, voice, piano, guitar. . ) she seems to be able to communicate what each of us feels but has a hard time expressing. Joni is absolutely timeless and always will be.
How completely fucking lucky are we that we get to exist on the same planet as Joni Mitchell . . . Her talents are unmatched.
Jeff Dissinger totally agree , she sounded like no one else and these songs are timeless., plus she can really sing.
Your language sucks! Grow up! Didn’t need to use the “f” word in your sentence.
You are completely "fucking" out of your mind 😂 She was nothing special, if she were special she would create every song as a HIT, but she didnt, so don´t make her an idol. It´s more amazing to know Yahwe Elohim incarnated 2000 years ago, that´s the real WOW-thought.

I started listening to Joni at age 15-50 some years ago-and she effects me now as she did then. Love you always Miss Mitchell. ♥️
The Blue album, still my all time Joni Mitchell favourite !
Bill Cox I agree. Blue has been played by me every week since 1973.
I can't stop listening to this.
Breathe-taking! What a showcase of Joni. What's amazing about Joni is that she is the master of so many disciplines. Art, music, poetry, multiple instruments. A voice quite unlike any other. Thanks so kindly for posting!
This whole song! A masterpiece.
We are all so lucky to be in the same world on this planet during her lifetime. I saw her perform in Berkley at the "Bread & Roses" yearly concert. She performed solo and with Herbie Hancock-1977 or 78. What a blessing she is.
Love Joni what beautiful lyrics

I love when this song just pops up in my news feed. My favorite Joni Mitchell song of many. Always the poet that that hits the heart is Joni...
how can you not love this?
Have no idea... it's maybe the best song in this genre ever
Joni paints in immortal ink the soul of love.
I would want to feel this way about my groom, and I would play this song for him. For I would be so consumed with emotion I could not get through the words. Genius.
BEAUTIFUL!! I only know this song because Prince did a rendition of it. His equally as beautiful. He was a big fan of Joni, and I see why.
tweethasweet. Yes, Prince's cover is beautiful and yes he loved Joni
Joni Mitchell, wow. Absolutely beautiful. So honest and haunting at times. One of the best song writers of all to grace our generation.
Went to many of her concerts. Loved them all
Lovely video and sound for one of our national treasures, Joni Mitchell. Thank you.
Jeez this songs stabs me in the back every time even after all these years.
The woman is divine, simplistic genius. 'You're in my blood like holy wine'. God I love her. She also has the best facial bone structure.

No comparison...different universe, different voice. No comparison.
Thank you for posting REAL MUSIC xxx
