great to see a film photographer video without 100% "chill beats to study to" music
This made me laugh. Don't watch any of my older videos. 😂
@@KyleMcDougall I'm guilty, I saw them all already
Yes! So refreshing
Kyle McDougall ppm
lofi is sick tho
I can't get enough of your western US content. I grew up on Route 66 in Illinois. Would love to get out there before everything is gone
Cheers, Chris. I definitely miss those areas!
Shooting Film, Analog camera, Legend Route 66, what a Beautiful scene you have there, awesome.
I’m sure I saw this video when you posted it, but hearing your back story again was fascinating. When I met you October 2017 at Flagstaff Camera, you were headed east in an F150, I was headed west in an F150. You were eying a Mamiya 7 as I recall. At that time I had you pegged as an old hand at the art of film photography, didn’t realize you’d almost given it all up! I’m glad you found your passion again.
Fast forward six years, I’m still enthralled with the American Southwest. My company sold to another company, my team was dissolved, and suddenly I was a freelance engineer. Suddenly I can work wherever I have an internet connection, so plans are underway to sell out and move west. For now, time to develop some more E6!
That burn out feel hit me a few months back and I've been working thru it , I love shooting but I hate most of the work I shoot. I. bought a new scanner and switched to only 645 in an aim to improve my work and also get better scans. I've been burned out in my work life as well as I hate working in my field, point is I know the feeling and getting pass it works differently for everyone. For me it's been finding the small stuff to make you happy and hyped to push on. Can't wait to see the UK work.
Thanks, man. And yeah, I can relate for sure. And I would definitely agree that we all deal with it and figure out a solution in our own unique way. There's never a clear answer, it's just a matter of moving forward, working through it, and making the necessary changes. Thanks for watching!
This is one of the most satisfying and creatively reassuring videos I've come across while trying to find inspiration in photography!
It is one of my dreams to photograph USA on a road trip and I've been moved to tears out of excitement while watching this video. You're a true gem for making this video buddy, please keep making photographs and videos like this one. Only wish this video was longer in duration.
Thank you!! I appreciate the kind words. 🙏
This video was refreshing
Such a beautiful day with you, Willem, and Nick Carver posting marvelous new videos at the same time! Very, very inspiring. We’re lucky to have you. Much love from Russia, Kyle!
Thank you! Happy to be part of this awesome community. :)
Fantastic!!..I loved your video.
Man when you said about giving yourself the higher expectations and kinda killing the curiosity and creativity you are so right. I kinda found myself in the same situation. For the past 7 years I did nothing but toy photography. And I too wasn’t enjoying what I was doing with it and not interested anymore. And as of last November I saw your photography and many others and it intrigued me enough to start shooting film. And man I wanna say thank you for that. I truly admire what you do.
Thank you for this message Nicholas. So awesome to hear that you found some excitement again in photography! The film community is great, and it's certainly had a huge influence on my work and approach.
i'm always amazed how photogenic its over there in the us
ye but one thing annoys me every time. graffiti. fucking hate this filthy shit, its sadly ruining these places...
@@WaldoWolf absolutely man
But the beauty is in the eye (and hand) of the beholder.
@@WaldoWolf personally I love the graffiti, gives them a flair. They're just old gas stations and hotels. It's not a ruin of a bygone era or something.
Interesting isn't it. Simple graphic forms and colour blocks. Also the light has a lot to do with it too.
I live near Oxford, UK but lived in Las Cruces, NM for a year, and this road trip takes me back to the most beautiful skies I have ever seen
Perfect video. And the photos in the end are just amazing! Great work!
I could watch these all day. Great stuff man! It was really interesting to hear about your journey with photography; glad you’ve found such a great outlet through film and your recent work.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate the comment. :)
Can’t wait to see the final product! Love this video man!! Keep driving
This video is such a VIBE! Brings me so much happiness and inspiration, Thanks man :)
So good 😁 it was cool seeing the updates on IG throughout parts of your trip, and thus also looking forward to this footage and the added insight! Cant wait to see the final images and project/book!
Thanks, man! Had a blast on this trip, and I'll be sad to wrap this project up.
Hey Kyle! Thank you for doing this. I began photography back in 2011 and since last year I felt like my work wasn’t the best as I knew I could I felt bored about using my equipment (canon) and having to change lenses was a pain for me because I wasn’t enjoying it anymore. A couple of months ago despite the pandemic that’s going on I finally was able to buy the Fujifilm x100f and man I’ve been loving every aspect of it and now I’ve been going places and shoot and it feels fresh and new for me like this is what I really needed. I’m not a pro photographer but I do enjoy capturing moments and places and What you shared to us about your photography journey hit close home to me I really related to it. Congrats on what you are doing right now and this video was amazing!
Thanks so much for the comment! Glad to hear you found some of that spark again, and that you're enjoying the X100. Such a great camera.
This is such a wonderful vlogging style. I love it! Please do more vlogs, Kyle. I'm thoroughly learning so much and enjoying the journey so much following along with you.
Thanks Sarah. Definitely planning on doing more content like this in the future.
Yes Yes Yes!! Great video! Can't wait to shoot stuff like this in the future
Awesome videos. I really am appreciating your advice on reflections on your experiences through your creative journey as a photographer. Also, love the soundtracks
Wow Kyle, great work!! Just discovered your channel and love your work!! Traveling Route 66 has been a bucket list item for my wife and I for a long time!
OG Route 66 with many nostalgic places to shoot film with. Love the video!
Thanks, Tony.
love your channel and your work man and also your videos are very relaxing too . I watch/hear them when i do my daily job and get tons of knowledge for film photography.Thank you.
Thank you! 🙏
Man I love this vlog, came up in my recommendations. Great shots, great subjects and great information. Keep it up.
Thanks, Stephen!
gotta be one of my favourites of yours
I love Route 66 only done part of it and may never be able do the rest. So appreciate that I can see it through your eyes
Thanks, Brian. Route 66 is a special place.
Kyle, this was amazing. Such a great video in every single aspect. Narration, locations, scenery, amount of pictures you showcased and yeah, just overall quality...spot on. Thank you, can't wait for the next one. /M
Thanks so much, Marius! Had a lot of fun making this one.
History was the optimal word in this vlog. It seems that certain individuals want to erase history and/or deface anything they come in contact with. We have a beautiful mountain lookout near me in North Georgia and it's all tagged-up. A true shame and certainly a great disrespect or lack-there-of. Great vlog!
Hey bro love your vids. So inspiring. Your the coolest
One of my favorite videos, not just by you but in the entire film community , ever. Amazing photographs and locations
Thanks, Andres! I appreciate that, man.
I’m through that change in my photography too, thanks for sharing your story
Man love you vlogs! You make me want to shoot what's along route 66 near my area! Subscribed! Your pics are awesome.. tells a story
Loved how you spoke about creating work that is authentic to you and creating images that just make you happy and rolling with it. I’ve been photographing for almost a year now (in March) and your photos are super inspirational to me and for that; I thank you. Keep doing everything you are doing-I’m very excited to see if you’ll be putting out a zine for all of this work in the near future!
Thanks for the comment, Emerson. And yes, absolutely, it's all about creating the work that excites you. We all have different tastes and we should embrace the work that feels most authentic to us.
You get a like from me even before I have seen the whole video, just beauce you are the man!
Keep it up, you really are making a huge impact in the community 👌
Thanks, Thomas. That means a lot. Happy to be part of this awesome community.
Blue Moon, woot!!
Such a great video! Thanks for taking some of us on an adventure that we may never see in our lives.
Thanks for watching, Mike!
Great work Kyle, the music, footage and photographs were all on point.
Cheers.
The music for this video aligned with your photos adds this ghostly voice from the past where these abandoned buildings were still living on and carrying the ghostly memories from days of their prime. The epitome of a true documentary photograph. I love it!🤘
Thank you!
Hi Kyle! Rewatching this film today ... again. One of my favorites from your channel! Love everything about it!
Thanks, Sarah. Was such a fun trip!
Enjoyed this on every level. Well done!! The music selections were a nice touch. It took me a little bit to track that first song down. Look forward to more!
Awesome, thank you!
Great vlog Kyle. Really enjoying your content. Look forward to seeing what you create on this side of the pond.
Thank you. Looking forward to the UK. :)
i've watched this video many times, and 10:42 always keeps me entertained, nice work kyle!
Photographer from Australia here 👋 .. great vid and shots. Really enjoyed it and would love to do this myself someday. Could of gone twice as long and I would not have been bored. Cheers 🍻
Thanks for watching.
This video is inspiring, and man I really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Thanks, Justin.
I just watched your review on the GFX 50r and I was immediately intrigued. I just found this channel lol. I wish I did sooner! You give me the old soul vibe, from the storytelling, to the imagery, and creativity, plus great sense in music too! You've got the whole package, man! Keep doing what you're doing!!
I already love your whole channel ❤
Thanks, Joshua.
first video on your chanel ive watch and subscribed right away. great work
Glad you enjoyed. Cheers.
Just discovered your channel. Love what you're doing and why. Your still shots are awesome and it's helping me figure out what I love with photography style. Looks like it's Fuji film style. So thanks!
Thanks for watching, Jenn!
Loved the video, photos, and music. Well done!
Thank you!
Great photos as usual and great message - many thanks
Cheers, Marc.
Oh my god!! I know you probably won’t see this but Blue Moon in Portland is where I got my first film camera! It’s about 15 mins from where I live lol
Nice! Great shop and people there. 🙂
great video, music... Love your colors. Great work. Can't wait to watch the rest of your work
Thanks!
Wholesome, I’m happy for this guy. Enjoyed this way more than I expected to.
😁
A million thumbs up 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 so awesome always a joy seeing your work
Thank you!
looks like a great trip man! Love your work!
Thanks! It was a good one. Miss that area!
Ah, the leaning water tower of Britten. Fantastic and inspirational video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Bryan!
Amazing work
Watching this made me feel like I was actually chilling with you on a road trip haha nice 👍🏼 great hearing your thoughts on burn out and overcoming it. I hear a lot of people in photography just preaching about “hustle culture” which is great for them, I guess, but sometimes, I think everybody deserves to slow down and reflect on whether their work still sparks joy (lol I guess I just went Marie Kondo there haha 😅)
Yep, super important to make sure what you're doing still excites you, and also be open to change if it's not. Thanks for watching. : )
Love love this!
Thanks, Christian!
Great video, Great message. Thanks for taking the time and making the considerable effort.
Thanks for watching, Michael!
Outstanding work; great color and composition. Many thanks.
Thank you!
Hey Kyle, I just discovered your channel after clicking through the explore on the right side a little bit. I really like these kind of videos where you travel and show the photos. I shoot modern architecture myself but find great joy in watching you shoot some of these classic America buildings. I also really really love the music. I am looking forward to seeing more!
Thanks so much, Mitchell! Glad you're enjoying them. Thanks for the message.
I've always enjoyed this style of photography but I've never had the chance to travel this famed route. Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed!
Great way to just go out and just take in the journey of discovery.
Great stuff man!! been wanting to explore more of Rte 66. Ive only been out thru California half or Arizona. Really dug the music too ;)
Thanks for checking it out! And yeah, Route 66 is one of my favs! Just so much to discover.
This video made me so nostalgic even tho i've never been to US lol! Great stuff!
Great video man. Solo Route 66 looks fun.
Great video! I love travelling and film photography so this is so cool to see! Your work is amazing too :)
Thank you.
Great video. Brings back some wonderful memories of my own 2 week long wanderings along the Mother Road (from Santa Monica to Chicago) in the fall of 2011. Shot many of the same places, and it’s sad to see how much more they’ve been wrecked by vandals. I think you’ve inspired me to go back into my archive to perhaps start a new series of postings today of those captures on my own Instagram feed. Thanks!
I would love to see more road videos like this, great work with the video and photography.
Thanks. More to come.
first 21 minute vlog i've ever watched in it's entirety.
Thanks, man! Glad you enjoyed it, even though it was a long one.
+1! Amazing scenes and great storytelling
Beautiful
Fantastic video! How cool is Route 66 😮 Just started following you both on here and Instagram and I’m loving your work! Beautiful colours, shades, and of course subject. Right up my street 🙌🏻👏🏻📷

Thanks, Jacky!
Great shots! They are oozing atmosphere. Thank you!
Thanks!
Wow, cool! I wish there were cool stuff like that where I live!
Awesome video, can't agree with you more than "shooting what we like gives the best photos". Been through a tough year myself barely shooting, finally seeing the end of the tunnel
Thanks, Maxim. Glad to hear you're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Keep shooting and doing what you love!
Awesome video and travel journal! I’ll be out there in a few days, I’m super excited now!
Have fun. You'll love it!
emm...you are really professional! really love your video and your images

Great lesson. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and philosophy. Cheers !
Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed this video!
Very cool work!
New subbie. Love hour being open to the next phase even with all the uncertainty. We sometimes cling to what it is we think defines us without realising what that resistance can be blocking.
love it, hope to see more
Thank you!
Hey man just discovered your channel, love this video, can't wait to see what you do when moving over to this side of the pond

Kyle McDougall Awesome! Looking forward to more vids!
Yes, the leaning water tower! I did a cross country trip for work in 2018 from Virginia to Arizona and back and stopped by the leaning water tower to shoot some film.
Such a cool spot! Had to do a double take when I first saw it.
enjoyed the images, enjoyed the music. Keep up the good work!
Thank you.
