      It's still kinda early to announce any sort of victory yet, companies like Amazon and Apple are still far larger in overall presence compared to a company like Spotify, whom number of employees and corporate resources are still "miniscule" compared to their competitors which are giants within their own right.
      Same thing with Netflix, whom is currently struggling to churn out successful original contents and intellectual property to boost it's own portfolio, compared to companies like Disney who can easily offer a way more massively impressive number of exclusive content catalog by their own intellectual property ownership alone.
      If neither Spotify or Netflix continue to innovate and improve in terms of contents and as a service then they would most certainly become irrelevant within the next decade.

You are also forgetting there are nothing particularly unique about Netflix or Spotify that can't be directly emulated by other companies in this day and age. If company like Amazon, Apple, Disney, etc. etc. choose to offer a higher quality services with way more content offerings at a way more aggressive pricepoint then services like Spotify and Netflix will be toast because these companies simply cannot afford to undercut it's financially larger competitors especially not in the long run.

Because loads of thing can change in a couple of years especially for tech companies. Currently, Netflix and Spotify are merely paying through their teeth for video and audio contents that are made by other companies/parties in order to attract and retain their customers. Case in point, Netlix only noticeably well-known original IP being Stranger Things, which is like the only massive runaway success for them since their inception, while no other of their original contents have come close or just falling short altogether.

    • @samsanchaz4040
      @samsanchaz4040 3 года назад +33

      @Nathaniel12345678910 They made steam. I'll elaborate later once I finish taking a dump.
      Ok so basically Steam is the main marketplace for games on PC. Unlike Spotify and Netflix, Steam is not a simple thing and is more than just a marketplace. Games, groups, communities, economies, mods, etc. I could go on forever. They're always experimenting and doing a lot. They have done so much that other companies can't do and have grown such a loyal userbase that they have a monopoly. Steam is so influential it pretty much caused the rise of digital entertainment not just for games, but for almost everything. Netflix and other mediums probably wouldn't exist. Did I mention Valve makes 30% of all purchases on Steam? Keep in mind it isn't just games people buy, Steam basically has it's own functional economies. So they're pretty damn rich.
      Steam is so beloved by the gaming industry that it is pretty much immune to criticism. They also made Half-Life, Portal, Dota, Counter Strike, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, etc. They were one of the most influential companies in the world before Steam was even popular. Kinda changed pop culture not just the gaming industry if I'm being honest. Lots of movies and shows are heavily derivative of Valve's games and their stories.
      Valve isn't like Microsoft or Sony with gaming platforms, or Netflix or Spotify. They do whatever they want. They're almost frustratingly mysterious sometimes. They stopped making big games after 2013 or so. Why? Who knows. They do what they want. They're almost always silent. No adverstisements either. It's really weird. Even some of their games have an ominous and such a compelling feel, you see games like Portal 2 and Half Life 2 and it can only be a Valve game.
      The only thing I can think of to compare Valve to is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, very weird company. Quite fascinating. I'm not even a gamer.

But my horizons have broadened so much because my money isn't at risk by trying out a new artist I might not even like. These services also give new artists much more possibility. The major labels have always been greedy and taken more than their fair share. Now is no exception. They've struck deals with Spotify to stay afloat, and more money goes from Spotify to the suits at the major labels than to the artists they claim to work for, the ones who's product they're selling.
      You are right that 20 bucks for a CD is outrageous, and it always has been outrageous. People did care that CDs were overpriced, that's why piracy blew up. If people had remained happy with the price of music, I don't think they would have resorted to searching for low quality mp3 rips online. Then perhaps the advent of streaming wouldn't have been as quick and detrimental to artist. I also think that 20 dollar price stems from the fact that before digital, CDs were considered to be higher quality than vinyl, and vinyl records were around 10 bucks for a new album, maybe 12. It wasn't until iTunes and Napster really made everyone realize that CDs are just the plastic on which the digital music files were stored that CDs were eventually deemed to be worth less than records. Nowadays new vinyl records are around 20 bucks and new CDs are closer to 10, same price as new digital albums on iTunes and Amazon.
