The only downside I can think of is acrylic is probably more brittle than wood, but not too significantly. I wonder about wood rubbing against itself over time, or expanding from moisture. The acrylic seems to be a more stable and consistent material to me. Plus it looks nice (once you actually take the brown paper off).

How does the laser cutting on acyrlic do vs wood? I would imagine the acrylic pieces are faster to cut but are there any downsides vs wood?

No plans for an owl currently, but that would be fun!
I wonder if an Owl would be able to use the existing mechanics and swap out the head and body with a different 3D printed model
