That’s just All in the bottom bar. Synced Albums sound like using your own storage instead of iCloud Photos. If so, can’t help with that. I find it cheaper to pay for iCloud rather than Apple’s insanely priced storage upgrades
This doesn’t solve the problem of when you’re watching a video and it crops and you have to do extra touches swipes and gestures just to get the scroll up. The Photos app is a complete mess and needs to be reverted.
This app has become a bloated mess. Thanks for this helpful video to sort through the clutter. Another example of software engineers adding so many features to an app, they make it less accessible.
FINALLY there's the option to not show screenshots, just actual photos - it has almost driven me nuts over the years that this feature hasn't existed before! BUT unfortunately it doesn't just show photos taken by the camera/a camera. It also shows other pictures that aren't screenshots, pictures that have been saved to the photo library from Safari or Facebook for example. So Apple were so close to nailing that feature down perfectly - they just have to improve that setting to filter out all images that don't have camera metadata stored in them, so that it only shows actual camera taken photos (no screenshots, nor saved pictures from the interwebs).
Funny enough, i once E-Mailed Craig Federighi (Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple) about the messy clutter of the Camera Roll folder and how i would like to see it become. I pretty much complained and he actually responded back positively that he will Look into it!
@@hishamhassan6426 that's a generic response lol. if you really want something to be tracked with a proper ticket, log a feedback report through official channels or use Apple's Bug Reporting tool and select feature request so it can be properly tagged. I can tell you as somebody who works in the IT industry if anything isn't properly tracked, don't expect it to be worked on.
I hate hate hate the new photos app, and imo it just moves further away from being useful then it ever has been. Any time I want to share a photo on any other app (messaging or socials) the photo picker makes it utterly impossible to find the exact photo I need because nothing is organised in date order, or by the actual album the photo is in. Its a colossal mess.
The old layout was so much better, opening the app and having all your photos sorted into albums especially the album with everything was so much better then all your photos dumped at the top.
It really sucks. What Favorites. That’s where I kept photos of important documents that I recurrently need to send to people. Now it is a pain to get to arrows to get to Favorites and then select the picture I need
This video was helpful, but the change that absolutely infuriates me is to Slideshow, which no longer has style options and won’t let me use my own music. Why?? It wasn’t great before, but it’s terrible now. I hate it. If it ain’t broke, Apple…
I hate that I just can't save it and name it what I want. Having to remember a date for each past photo I want to share then scroll back through 33,000 photos is just a little inefficient. I started saving them as files in the files folders just like a desktop would and just skipping the gallery entirely.
enable pinned collections when ur in the customize & reorder menu, once its enabled theres an option to modify pinned collections to the right of wherever its shown in photos app and u can enable map there
Thank you!! NOW I'll upgrade to 18.2. I never upgraded to ios 18 because I heard so much negativity about the Photos app and I didn't want to be aggravated with it.
DO you know how to download video with original metadata in windows? because with ios 18 when downloading video it shows wrong timestamp and not showing all metadata like fps iso and all if the video is downloaded. please let me know
Turned everything off except favorites. Apple really blew it with this cluster fuck. Apple software is really going downhill pretty fast. They finally have kick ass hardware, but the software gets worse with every release.
My problem isn’t with the new organization but primarily the new video playback format which makes stunningly dumb changes that make it far less useful and enjoyable to use. Why can’t I have a live timestamp at all times? Why does the video constantly “vignette any time you touch the screen to adjust playback? Why is there no longer a timeline with stills that make it easy to scrub through the video to find specific parts of the video? If you have short clips and are only using the Photos app for basic playback then it’s not such a big deal, but if you use the app for more than that then the changes are really bad and were unnecessary. A classic case of fixing something that has never been broken!
The new ios was just so messed up. I have synced albums that I put in each folders and now I need to access my camera roll to find old photos that I dont need but now they are all mixed up and I could not even locate which photos are from Camera Roll and which are actually my synced photos.
I miss the day view the most. The new recent days aren’t the same experience. Day view used to curate itself according the content in the picture - and it looked so much better. Apple could bring this back without making any other changes.
I have a folder with videos of my cats, which I used to sometimes set to play as a slide show on my iPad in the background, as a sort of moving picture frame. With this update it only plays the first few seconds and then jumps to the next video, although some videos are over two minutes long. And I cannot with the help of any deity find how to change that! Extremely annoying!
I could live with it if they brought back tabbed navigation. Without that it's just a pain in the ***. I always opened in album view, and you had All Photos album, which was really useful, and if needing the library, it was a simple tap on the tab. In 18.2 they've actually made it even worse. In album view, you could swipe down to get back to the hideous home page, but now it's a side swipe, which is virtually impossible. I didn't think they could make a bad design worse, but they have. I've pretty much given up curating photos now, so they're just a mess.
Thank you Dan. As you say, it isn't your fault and I don't think anyone thinks that it is. As for Apple, they have made the Photos app an over complicated piece of nonsense. Ironically, making it more difficult to navigate and find things when the intention was to help people be able to find what they are looking for quickly. Apple seems to be spending far too much time on developing rubbish when they should really be focusing on the basics.
**MEMO TO ** So, when every major YT channel covering Macs and MacOS are forced to have a vid on how to "fix" the lame Photos App changes in IOS 18.2 ... **MAYBE YOU GOT IT WAY WRONG**
With every UI change, there always one thing I ALWAYS notice. MORE CLICKING! In the previous version, I scroll down to Videos, click and boom, all my videos. Now, get to the up/down button, * click * that, then * click * View Options, again another * click * to finally see Videos. Click, click, click, click,…. How is this better?? All these suggested categories just plain suck as the photos I want rarely show up so I turn all that off. I will stay with 17 until my phone becomes unusable.
Excellent guide to the new Photos app that has changed my work flow and not for the better. Maybe I will think differently after tweaking the app. I use iCloud for everything except my files and photos/videos. I back up locally and occasionally copy that back up to a drive that lives in my safe deposit box at the bank. I am subscription averse. I used to go through my photos and videos on my 55" TV curating the photos and videos I want to keep while deleting everything else. Then, back up to my Mac, make any albums I may want, then sync to my iPhone and iPad. Anyway, the new Photos app made this harder to do by removing whatever they called the camera roll folder. I forgot the name. I think my problem has been solved. Thank you. Anyone curate like I do?
Apple makes new iOS different from previous, but not better than previous, even worse. I believe a photo app is the simplest thing, how can they make it such disgusting? When will they put camera roll back?
I came her just to express my utmost disappointment with this ''update''.... There won't be enough comments against so here I am, writing my first negative comment on anything, absolutely anything in my all life. How can this suck that much????
Whomever is doing Apple UI now is absolute trash, Steve jobs would fucking eviscerate them for being so bad. Like when you get a calendar notification, on Mac you can’t even see how to close it you have to hover all over it and a tiny x appears, and if you miss the x you end up opening your calendar app. If the button appears on mouse over you can make it big so it’s easy to see and click on it. The list of trash UI descions is endless. I miss Steve jobs, the attention to detail disappeared at Apple.
Fantastic, removed everything apart from media and albums and boom back to how it used to be and working just how I want it 🎉
Where's Camera Roll? Why are all my recently taken pics mixed up with my synched album pics. It's such a mess. So confusing.
That’s just All in the bottom bar. Synced Albums sound like using your own storage instead of iCloud Photos. If so, can’t help with that. I find it cheaper to pay for iCloud rather than Apple’s insanely priced storage upgrades
We don’t THINK it kinda sucks. We KNOW it sucks
totally agree it s terrible
It's way too complicated. They have just piled on layers of unnecessary stuff. It should be simple and easy to use.
It sucks and horrible
The video scrolling is the worst.
There was NO reason to change this app. It was working perfectly. Apple at the very least needs to give us the option to revert back.
Apple should add one slide button.
Retain new version Retain old version
Let the consumers vote!
This doesn’t solve the problem of when you’re watching a video and it crops and you have to do extra touches swipes and gestures just to get the scroll up. The Photos app is a complete mess and needs to be reverted.
resolved in iOS 18.2

Thanks for trying bro but it still sucks mostly for people syncing with the Mac, everything is still a mess at the top
The old layout was so much better, opening the app and having all your photos sorted into albums especially the album with everything was so much better then all your photos dumped at the top.
iOS 17 Photos app is better than iOS 18
It really sucks. What Favorites. That’s where I kept photos of important documents that I recurrently need to send to people. Now it is a pain to get to arrows to get to Favorites and then select the picture I need
Thank you! It’s now vastly improved!
This video was helpful, but the change that absolutely infuriates me is to Slideshow, which no longer has style options and won’t let me use my own music. Why?? It wasn’t great before, but it’s terrible now. I hate it. If it ain’t broke, Apple…

You can. Click the info icon on the picture and at the very top of the info pop up it says “Add a Caption”. Then you can search for it
I tried that just now it doesn't seem to work though.
Thanks for making this Dan. I’ve had a bit of trouble finding things when I’m in a hurry…
This actually helped me lots thanks mate
🫡
I hate that the map is buried as the last element in the utilities and there is no way to move it to the front, Dan. Any way to fix that...?
enable pinned collections when ur in the customize & reorder menu, once its enabled theres an option to modify pinned collections to the right of wherever its shown in photos app and u can enable map there
Thanks for the tip!
I had never paid much attention but it did such before, not now after watching this video. Thank you MacRumors
Another quick to the point video!! Good information!!👍
I liked it because of the customization. I never used For You/Memories. Also finally can filter out screenshots. Used to have to use hide.
Thank you so much for this video!
Great info thanks again
Thank you!! NOW I'll upgrade to 18.2. I never upgraded to ios 18 because I heard so much negativity about the Photos app and I didn't want to be aggravated with it.
Thank you!! That was an upsetting interlude, but you helped me fix it.
DO you know how to download video with original metadata in windows? because with ios 18 when downloading video it shows wrong timestamp and not showing all metadata like fps iso and all if the video is downloaded. please let me know
Awesome advice. Thank you! 🙂

enjoy those Browns games and thank you Dan! happy holidays to you and yours!
Thank you and same to you!!!
Dude......thank you.
Found this super helpful
I'm glad it helped!
Thanks for making this informative video; the new default view was annoying me. haha
Really excellent update. Took a few days to see the genius, but it's there!
I can't find anything. Old photos with new photos. It makes no sense. So frustrating.
My problem isn’t with the new organization but primarily the new video playback format which makes stunningly dumb changes that make it far less useful and enjoyable to use. Sorting by recently added on the main grid view I hadn’t come across yet… thanks! 🙏

And where are my favorites? It's not even an album anymore. This is a nightmare. Afraid to do the brand new update as I don't want it to be even worse.
Still no sorting options standard in every computer since 1990. Thanks Apple!
Thank you Dan. As you say, it isn't your fault and I don't think anyone thinks that it is. As for Apple, they have made the Photos app an over complicated piece of nonsense. Thumbnail- 10/10 …. Enticed me to watch the whole video
step one: export all your photos to the files app. step two: you're done.
I use albums a lot and it takes too long to look at a photo and then have to swipe down forever to get to my albums! I can't stand it!
what happened to live photos?!?!?
"After iOS 18, I can no longer find pictures from, for example, January 2018 using the search function. Does anyone know why?"
Has apple absolutely lost all semblance of user experience? What’s happened to them

I just don’t know how to find the photo I just took. :|
Next video suggestion; Dan on guitar. Do you really play? 🎸
I do! The last RUclips shorts video we posted on app awards might show a little clip of me doing just that 👀
Yeah, putting everything on one long screen is not streamlining. 😖
pitaka cases r the best! 🙂
My mistake i update iOS 18 the photo app settings is very bad to use 😠😡
Ios 18 is for me a NoGo because the New Photos App
god bless you and your family have a great christmas 🎄 ❤
BLOAT! Nuf said.
Apple makes new iOS different from previous, but not better than previous, even worse. I believe a photo app is the simplest thing, how can they make it such disgusting? When will they put camera roll back?
Streamlined 😂 made it more faff more like
Thanks…
Sorry, no. It still sucks big time.
Apple should fire who directed this suck
You are right! The new photo app is so bad!!
I kind of like the Photos app in iOS 18, it took awhile to get used to but I’m enjoying it
You must not use it to scrub through videos or to find specific timestamps.
It still sucks.
This is the WORST 'innovation'.. please rewind! the photos app was perfect!
Suck more or suck less, still suck🤣
But it’s less
The new UI seems fine to me. Great video though on customizing options.
I LOVE IT! People hate change but complain nothing ever change 😂
This is really sucks
Not kinda… it SUCKS! 🏴
Unpopular opinion but after a few days adjusting to it I don’t mind it.
I came her just to express my utmost disappointment with this ''update''.... There won't be enough comments against so here I am, writing my first negative comment on anything, absolutely anything in my all life. How can this suck that much????
