Off-Grid Well Packer - Attempting To Put A Liner Down The Old Shallow Well

Using a Well Packer to line our Off Grid Shallow Well is a new experience for us. We really don't know what we're doing, but hopefully it'll all go ok. A Well Packer is a PVC tube with rubber fins that press along the old casing sealing it off form the new PVC pipe. You can get them in several different sizes and the rubber in different levels of firmness. For this old case iron pipe, we went with a softer packer that should hopefully go in easier and not damage the old casing.
After the 4" liner is in we'll slip a 1-1/4" pvc pipe down the length of the well. The plan is to hook this up to a Pitcher Pump later on. Before the pipe gets up that high, I installed a T fitting with a drain. This way I can drain the pump and line that is above grade so it doesn't freeze during winter.
Last step for the day was filling around the liner and then raising up the ground level a good 6 inches with pea gravel. This should keep it clean down below the deck I plan to build over the hole.....eventually.....
I couldn't believe when you put the Bobcat bucket on it - it didn't just push down in the old casing...wow!
We think the pipe collapsed. There was a void several feet down that we got stuck on and that's probably where it fell apart. Worth a try but was a clear failure. We still have to try the same thing with the other well but our rainwater collection system has been working fine so there hasn't been an urgent need to yet.
@@Off-Grid we are doing rainwater catchment as Northern Nevada too. We are in process of constructing a modified Earthship style home on top of a mountain.

why dont you have a filter on your inner pipe
I hate myself for this. But don’t let her stand next to the pipe like that when pushing down on it with the skidsteer. It could fail and it would be sharp and dangerous. Safety Sallie has spoken.

@@Off-Grid I edited out a few sketchy moments with installing beams. Build anything and some craziness will ensue. There were no Osha officials on the wagon trains.

why would you cut your pipe BELOW the surface.. you should have it 2 ft above the ground

I have an old well I am wanting to bring back to life. The casing was removed when the windmill for it was removed. Luckily we are on rock and the well is still in good shape. I would like to use a packer to seal the well and have some PVC casing. Where did you find the packer with the softer material? I have seen a harder blue version that looks very difficult to use.

did you chlorinate the well.. why didnt you concrete or expanding foamseal in the top to seal it from above..i wont be drinking any of your water...sorry
