      You are so right. And it does not deserve to be joked about. Snoring is a problem for both the snorer and those who cannot sleep because of the noise. Snoring may be a symptom of sleep apnoea. Watch the video - all the way through - and see how snoring and sleep apnoea are assessed and the valid ways to stop!

    I hate that back sleeping is the worst, because that's the only way I can sleep lol. If I sleep on my side, I will get a sore neck and my top arm goes to sleep. I stick to my back, to keep my neck from getting sore (I can't sleep on stomach at all, no idea how people do that and breathe). Going to try the 'smart nora' next week, but that one seems pretty hit-and-miss. I tried a chin strap, and had my loudest snore night with it on, hahah.

    • @Snorer
      @Snorer  Год назад

      Good luck with the Smart Nora. May I ask have you been assessed for sleep apnea? It’s good to get a baseline assessment. From that you can find the most appropriate way to stop snoring - if if it’s snoring due to sleep apnea - get it treated.

    My snoring is extremely loud. I used the snore lab app and couldn’t believe it. Doesn’t appear to be apnea but very loud regardless. I’ve lost relationships because of this. Tired all day no matter how much I sleep and feel low. Fall asleep in the cinema.

      What about people who have a pretty severe overbite and the advancement of the lower jaw with a device is almost impossible or puts to much pressure on the bottom front teeth to accomplish that?

    • @Snorer
      @Snorer  Год назад

      Thanks for commenting. I think from your question that you know the answer! I regret to say that oral appliance therapy would not be a great option as the increased vertical opening required to compensate for the large overbite would typically be intolerable. So, try an alternative treatment option. Consult a sleep-trained professional. Good luck.

    I have had a snoring problem since forever. Had surgery to expand nasal passages when I was 14 but did nothing to improve the snoring. Also had the sleep apnea test which came back negative. Don’t smoke drink or am overweight and nasal airway is clear. Am currently awaiting to see an ent specialist so in the meantime found the only thing that has significant results as a tongue retainer. This has taken a snore lab score from 80 down to 15. It’ is is very uncomfortable but is the only thing that work while I wait to see a specialist. Could a tongue tie be the main cause of my snoring. Great video by the way

I got "better sleep" not using any of it, which basically left me back at square one. I'm obese, so that's something I can work on.... i kind of have to, cuz this drowsiness is not fun. I'm going to visit ENT, see if they can give me an assessment, to discard other things. I'm pretty sure i have a deviated septum, not sure how severe it is though, we'll see what the doc says.

      Chris, thanks for commenting. I cannot give medical advice. I suggest you listen to your wife (always a good move!). More seriously, she may be witnessing more than 'just' snoring and has your best interests at heart. Re cost - you have to compare the cost of inactivity vs the cost of doing something. IF your snoring is actually a symptom of sleep apnoea/apnea then it could take literally years off your life, and reduce the quality of that life too. The sleep test is the only way to find out if snoring is due to sleep apnoea/apnea. Good luck!

And now I’m embarrassed and scared cause I even got camp coming up and when I did some research I realised it is bad to snore during the day too.. I feel like if I ask my mum to go to the doctor she will say no and I don’t know what to do! Please help :(

      Hi there. I'm not a Doctor so I cannot give you medical advice. However, I know enough about snoring to say that it is NOT right for a child to routinely snore. Occasional snoring perhaps if you have a cold would be understandable. I would urge you to consult your General Medical Practitioner (your primary care doctor). Speak to your Mum. If possible try to get them to video you on their phone - this would also help the GP. They would be interested to see if you are arching your head back in an attempt to open your airway. Wish you every success. Oh and we have GP Guidelines on our site here: snorer.com/gp-guidelines-snoring-sleep-apnoea/ I suggest you print and send them to your GP ahead of your appointment. Keep in touch. Good luck! Here to help.

    I’ve had sleep apnea since I’ve been a baby. Once I gained weight tremendously after having a baby (I gained 70 pounds! Like wtf?!?) I noticed I was sleeping more……… I wanted to sleep 12 plus hours a day. I just thought I needed this amount of sleep but I never ever felt rested if this makes sense. I also smoked back then, and quit. Quitting helped so much I was against quitting but it was causing me to wheeze. After I quit I didn’t wheeze anymore but it didn’t help with my slee apnea. So yeah basically I never grew out of my sleep apnea, in fact it got worse as I aged……… unless you have a medical
    Professional to place your neck to keep your airways open at night, your screwed lol. I ended up losing weight, and it didn’t work like I had hoped for……
    I then Developed hypertension at the age of 30, and started sleeping more (a sign thag my apnea was getting worse) taking a baby aspirin helped (it really did! I could tell the difference between the days I would take this and didn’t) and taking an allergy pill helped as well to keep my airways opened more….. but it didn’t cure the problem.
    The only thing that ever helped me and I still have apnea was that breathing device and breathing exercises. The device is needed when your airways become too relaxed, and the breathing exercises helped keep my muscles from relaxing so quickly…….. they say singers don’t really suffer from sleep apnea so I had to learn everything a singer does and do all those types of exercises.

    A dental appliance is as good as CPAP for many with OSA

    • @Snorer
      @Snorer  2 года назад

      Thanks for commenting. I’d support the most appropriate treatment for the medically diagnosed individual.
      Historically, oral appliances were confined to primary snoring but today, custom-made, adjustable, prescription Mandibular Repositioning Devices may be preferred by patients for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea.
      The caveats are many. Including the current lack of objective evidence of wear and treatment efficacy for those in vigilance critical roles. And of course dental and medical collaboration and money.
      I’m a fan of MRDs for severe OSA as combination therapy with PAP as an MRD may reduce the PAP treatment pressure and make it easier to comply with. But of course the argument against is that the patient has two things to get used to.
      I’m summary, everyone is different and expert diagnosis and prescription of the most appropriate treatment is necessary.

    Why is surgery the last option? tongue shrinking and uvula minimization should be common practice next to CPAP.

    • @Snorer
      @Snorer  Год назад

      Hi Richard. Thanks for commenting. Surgical options are typically considered last as they are not reversible (known as invasive) when other options are. There is also the question of evidence of effectiveness. Palatal surgery (as you describe it 'uvula minimization') historically was the non-thinking approach to everything snoring and sleep apnea. It is no longer a blanket approach because the evidence of effectively resolving the primary complaint isn't there. And the evidence of compromised ability to tolerate PAP is. I hope this helps. While for some people surgery (soft tissue and bone 'orthognathic') can be a game changer, it is drastic stuff.

      Hi Cray. Thanks for commenting. That is an interesting theory: snore contagion! Not one I've heard of before. However, if you wake up hearing the end of your own snore - that's a classic symptom of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). See your General Medical Practitioner. Increasing age, male gender and if you're sleeping on your back may be factors if you don't smoke, drink and you're not overweight. Remember snoring is not a joke. It may be a symptom of sleep apnoea, which if untreated may take years off your healthy life. Good luck! Adrian

      Absolutely right. Weight is the single biggest confounder. If you're overweight, and can lose a little bit, you will have a significant reduction in how much you snore (and decreased OSA severity if that is your condition). And of course if you gain weight things get worse.

    This is just another channel that is just repeating everything he read or saw somewhere else and trying to make it his own. I have snored since I was very young and even if I slept on my stomach, on my side, or even upside down so the whole gravity bit is completely false, fake, and just BS. Therefore the issue is far greater than just gravity.

      Thanks for your comment and opinion. Which will be no surprise I don’t agree with. Not going to argue with you. All I would add is to urge you not to self diagnose and self treat. Have a good life. Other channels are available!

      Do you have sleep apnea when you sleep in back

    • @Snorer
      @Snorer  Год назад

      Hi Varnika. Thanks for commenting. So sleeping on your back (known as supine) means gravity works against you. Couple of things happen:
      1. Your tongue falls back and narrows your airway
      2. Your mouth may fall open (and you dribble attractively!) and this further narrows the space behind your tongue
      So while this happens to everyone, people may only snorer in their back.
      Snorers in all positions may have worsened snoring on their back and experience (breathing pauses) sleep apnoea events.
      Those with sleep apnoea may experience more and longer apnoeaic events on their back.
      Hope this helps?!

    Or just get your tongue tie revised. Tongue ties cause mouth breathing because the tongue doesn't rest at the top palate. 🤷‍♀️

      Thanks for commenting. Interesting. My view is that treatment follows diagnosis. So we cannot state that X treatment or surgery is the "cure".
      I found this today and thought of your tongue tie suggestion. Makes interesting, cautionary reading. undark.org/2021/09/08/short-on-evidence-dubious-therapies-turn-to-the-tongue/

    If snoring are a major problem in your marriage, then it's your marriage, not snoring. Using snoring as grounds of divorce? Please!!!!. Something else is going on other than snoring

      Thanks for commenting. I’ve not responded earlier as I wondered what others may contribute.
      Now, I think it’s time to say there is snoring and “OMG annoyingly loud” snoring; that mean bed partners (who may well be experiencing symptoms of insomnia themselves, in these challenging times) find the only solution is to leave the bedroom.
      This departure is the beginning of the end of intimacy for some relationships. And this in turn may precipitate, over time, divorce. It’s a slippery slope.
      So, it’s not “snoring as grounds for divorce” but snoring that deprives the partner of sufficient quality rest. And perhaps snoring is the sound of impending doom for your relationship!
