- In this video we build a plastic brick structure kit from DPM. We use a lot of product from Ammo by Mig to achieve a heavily weathered look.
Now this is also part 2 of a project I'm working on with my friend Waymen of Pro Scale Models, Be sure to visit his RUclips channel and watch part 1 to see how this all started. Hope you enjoy the video and happy modeling everyone!!!

Happy this video introduced me to Pro Scale Models' RUclips page
He does awesome work! Thank you so much for watching!!! 👍
WOW - Just WOW!!! I promise you I'm not crying lol - this is great bro. Can't wait to add to it...
Don't worry, I cried for you. LOL AWESOME!
@@ratherbeflying101 Hahaha I was like this dude goes so far and above...
Good eye, Brother. I don't think colorblind people would get to enjoy seeing what you do as much as I do. Thank goodness I can distinguish between colors. You did a great job of putting wear and tear on your buildings.
I paint the other side to minimize the warping. Then when the underside is almost dry, I place it against some wax paper and weight it down overnight or longer. The result is a dead flat foundation, wall or whatever. Beautiful work you two!!!
Extreme imagination! These two guys who have built these buildings and scenery are highly recommended to watch! Incredible!
I am just speechless on this one. All I can say is you two keep raising the bar constantly.
Nice! Great mash up! Been looking forward to this since I saw the video on Wayman's channel.
DPM , dumb plastic models!, I built a whole bunch of them. Weathering is the fun part, good tips & techniques, & great video! Must be a heck of a layout!
That is super. It wouldn't look out of place on any railway. Regardless of which country it was in.
A wonderful job from both you and Wayman! What a fun build!
Dear Jason, really appreciate how you’ve shown your stencil method. Really makes a difference with these DPM kits.
Also, showing the chipping action in such detail and close-up is very informative and educational.
Love the collaborative project. Great build, awesome results welded together.
Definitely will check out Wayman’s Pro Scale Models.
that Gundam story is soo cool !
Great job Jason and Wayman! I love that your creativity extends beyond the typical "railroad" universe! I've been trying to do that myself the last few years. Keep it up, guys!
That build tho...straight up futuristic ghetto style look.👌
I wish more kit makers would add a stone or brink foundation to their wood buildings.
i found your channel last christmas, im mainly into fantasy and sci-fi models and dioramas. Straight away i loved the world you were making, almost a lovecraftian vibe, and the skill and enthusiasm is second to none. Always a joy to see you put up a vid!
I absolutely loved the sc-fi twist at the end, Jason! I always find your work to be inspirational, and thanks for the heads-up about the Pro Scale Models channel.
jason, what awesome techniques on a derelict building.
I am loving how this is coming together, and can't wait for part 3.
Cheers, and stay safe, Michael
Oh wow!
Always in awe of your work - SUPERB!
Thank you so much!!!
Outstanding compliments on this diorama, great tips shared as always. It’s going to be interesting on how Wayman continues forward on this diorama. Two brothers from different mothers working together as one.
Nothing but praise.. 👏👏
Jason luvs his masking tape...lol...this is such a cool back and forth build. Looking forward to the next episode.
Outstanding model work. I am sure Wayman will love it. Thank you
That turned out great! The combination of old buildings and Sci-Fi looks perfect!
I love it Guys. Great work!!!!
Fantastic! I love seeing these challenges!
Wow!
Just a great channel. I love this stuff, there's always something new going on.
Super cool Jason what a wonderful collaboration between two model makers, I love the robot.
The bevel on the edges is called a draft angle. That draft provides a reliable release from the injection machine.
Trust you to have a spare Gundam figure just lying about! ;-) I'll have to incorporate a few derelict buildings into my layout - very cool. Cheers
Beautiful job Jason , thanks for share always something to learn.
Cesar
Jason thanks for showing how to make stencils I never thought of doing that!
Amazing modeling guys! Really top notch.
Dear Janson;
please buy a varifocals Glasses. I have had the same problem with adjusting. I ever must see above my glasses. Now I´m using varifocals Glasses and everything is better. Like HD ;-)
your work is still an amazing process for me...I hope to get a "from zero to hero" with your inspirings.
greetings from Germany and apologize my poore english
Wulf
Yes your an amazing modeller I'm into wargaming and painting figures but your buildings are impressive can't wait to use your techniques and helpful tutorials to make buildings for my gaming table to take it to another level enjoy your channel and keep up the amazing work 👍
Just another great build and will have to check out Pro scale models. His building looked amazing. The chipping effect looks great using rattle can base. Never thought about making a stencil for the windows. Looking forward to what he is going to add.
I don't think I want anything to do with this neighborhood! Outstanding modeling.
You never disappoint. Every video gets better
nice thanks man
Fantastic show Jason, thank you. Very impressed with the matte board base and chipping medium, I never realised it was that easy. Can you get that effect on wooden kits?
And further proof you are truely gifted, you can get the excess weathering powder back into the jar without spilling it 😀
Cool project.
Another great job Jason. One small criticism though. The boards across the inside of the windows all look the same. Same size, same spacing, same color. I don't think that is plausible.
I'm very curious to see the trains which are running on Jason's layout. You reference it being of a modern day setting. So, is he running BNSF, et. al., or something else? To me it seems more like a dystopian future ala "Mad Max". Just curious how the fantasy plays out. Great diorama by the way!
"Hey honey, have you seen who's moved in next door? - well, there goes the neighbourhood!"
This was a great episode, love the SciFi Fantasy feel to this diorama! Reminds me, when are you going to work on your Scifi Train room?
Hi JASON great video enjoyed it very much . can you use chipping effects with a pain brush on a wall ? instead of a airbrush?????Mark
It's great for applying ballast. Sorry for three comments I keep hitting send.
A local Walmart sells several colors of chalk based paint including white, black (ink), and dark green.
What a great collaboration. I waited to watch this until I had the time to sit in front of my TV. That way I catch everything. Speaking of which. Did you lose the footage of you spraying the window frames using the stencils you made. I mean, I was able to fill in the gaps. But I would have liked to see the process. I really enjoyed this build and the resulting diorama. What a concept. I look forward to the 2 channels finishing it up. Thanks. See ya.
Jason, instead of a spoon you might find that an old mustard
Do you have a list of acrylic paint colors that you'd recommend? It would REALLY helpful to know your top ten, then the next ten, then the next ten, etc. colors that you use for your railroad layout. I don't know which colors to get first. And, do you buy them individually, or in a prepackaged group? I NEED HELP knowing what to buy and not wasting my money! I can envision this being a video. Then you can do one on your weathering chalk colors. Etc. THANK YOU!
I know this is old, so hopefully you see it. What is it you are calling laser board? Do you have a specific example? Thanks!
OK, I'm really going to slam you with questions now:
1. What is the code of the track you use?
2. How did you build the benchwork so you can take it apart?
3. How many hours a week are you putting into building the layout?
4. I've just bought some George Sellios kits and really like them. How do they compare with other brands, such as Campbell, Fos, Bar Mills, etc? Or is the important thing for making a great structure the work and time put into a kit, not the brand of kit?
5. I love the Gorre and Daphetid. What's your opinion of it?
I really appreciate your answers!
Sorry, been on vacation. I’ll get back to you in a day or two. 👍
1. Code 83
2. Bolts and wing nuts in the bench work.
3. ALOT
4. My favorite is Fosscale models.
5. The hobby has advanced so much since the Gorre and Daphetid was built. I truly am inspired by many layouts and builders.
Hope this helped!
Thanks again!
Jason, it appears these pieces are produced like the Ameri-Towne kits I’ve built previously ? There made using styrene injection molds and and there’s a couple of really important things you need to do prior to assembling. As you stated it’s important to sand the connecting ends to be sure there flat as there smooth and so,e what glossy out of the mold. Then I wash all pieces mine warm dishwater to remove the release agent that’s used in the molds when there being made as this will effect how the adhesive and paint adheres as you go. And I recommend Plastruct plastic weld adhesive as it chemically welds the pieces together ! I learned this the hard way on my first kit having issues with paint and adhesive grabbing properly ? Just my experience if in fact these are made from styrene !
I like to write novels on The RUclips even though no one will read them... 💩
Jason - super video as always! Question - does the chipping solution you used have to be applied with an airbrush? Or can it be brushed on?
Thank you so much!!! The chipping solution can be brushed on. You do not need to airbrush it.
@@JasonJensenTrains Thanks
😊
Jason, I noticed some DC power packs in your videos -- will you be using DCC for your layout? Which system and why? Thanks!
My layout is DC. I have some engines that have sound that work on remote control. Not really interested in DCC.
Thanks. More Questions: Is your layout designed to be viewed while sitting, or standing, or both? Does it matter? What height is the "main" part of the layout, the plywood on top of the benchwork?
Hey Mark, happy to answer any questions! The track is at 41 inches off the ground. I have 4 stools to sit on which are 32 inches tall or you can just stand.
OK, I'm really going to slam you now:
1. What is the code of the track you use?
2. How did you build the benchwork so you can take it apart?
3. Are you keeping a record of the cost of the new layout? Any estimate?
4. How many hours a week are you putting into building the layout?
5. I've just bought some George Sellios kits and really like them. How do they compare with other brands, such as Campbell, Fos, Bar Mills, etc? Or is the important thing for making a great structure the work and time put into a kit, not the brand of kit?
6. I love the Gorre and Daphetid. What's your opinion of it?
I really appreciate your answers!
Where do you get the MIG paints? Are those the same as AMMO?
Squeeze bottles gives you more control.its
The matte board for sidewalk looks great. Where can I get matte board? How do I cut it? Thanks!
Any art supply store has it, similar names (other than "matte board") are "chipboard" and I've seen it called "MDF", which it really isn't. A sharp/new X-acto knife blade, or a new single edge razor blade works too. I use the "snap knives" from Olfa, or off brand most of the time as the blades are dirt cheap and you're a "snap" away from a fresh/new cutting edge.
How often do you use your air brush?
Why did you use a combination of glues for the walls?
Love your videos but my eyesight is not quite up to snuff when it comes to building in that small of scale.
Great job as usual.
Hey Jason, after about 200 dpm builds, I can tell you that the roof support is supposed to be cut into about 1” lengths and spread out evenly along the roof line. That’s why they only send one little piece in those smaller kits😁
I've only built a few DPM kits over the years, mostly for my oldest son's HO std. gauge layout (I model narrow gauge). One thing that improves the appearance of DPM kits dramatically... I take small files to the sashes of the windows and thin them down to about half their width. It's a lot of work on some of the structures (that have more windows), but the effect is worth it, at least to me!
Another alternative, which I did on one of them, was to remove the windows completely and substitute window castings from Tichy... Another big improvement, as I changed it from a single sash window, to a 4/4, totally altering the appearance of the structure.
For what they charge, they could give you a strip of styrene, that's long enough!
It came all the way from Atlanta, it didn't come part way from Atlanta? Ever think about that statement "all the way from Atlanta ". Shouldn't you just say from Atlanta.?
