I have fine curly hair, that's easily weighed down, have stubborn growth patterns & REALLY struggle w/root curl & lift. I'd start with root curl but it wouldn't last more than a couple hours. I would try all the things but it never worked. I finally noticed that all the RUclipsrs that were able to simply use the diffuser to push up their roots all had hair more on the coarse side (you, CurlyChelle, & omg I forgot the other girl's name, super pretty, bleached blonde hair, also does modeling🤔), & it seemed to just sorta lift up no problem. I realized the texture itself must be giving it something similar to grit. So now what I do, is I take those small claw clips and twist little sections along the top of my head and sort of pin the croquel with the claw clip right on the top and I do this at around 70% dry. I add a little bit of hairspray after I've done clipping all the coiled sections, and then around the 85% dry mark, I take all the clips out, and then I start to do that scrunch at the root diffusing, but here's the important part - as I'm scrunching up at the roots but just before I fully scrunch it to the top of my head, I spray more hairspray as it's scrunching & ALMOST all the way but not quite, and then I hold the scrunched up pieces of my root to the top of my head and sort of dry the hairspray right there and when I let go the combination of the hairspray being dried at the root where I created curl really helps to hold the curl and the lift. I just think that since a lot of fine hair types have more of a slippery texture it's impossible to just use the diffuser and push the hair up and hope that works. At least I know for my hair and my curls it does not work. So really it's the same thing Gena is saying, but add some hairspray to give it that extra grit and extra texture and extra hold and I swear my fellow fine haired curlies will be surprised!

@@jclark645 I usually use the inner sense I create finish, although I've also used bounce curls hair spray & aquage working spray. It's a lot harder to overdo it with the innersense one. The aquage & bounce curl ones have better hold, but I've accidentally used too much more than once & had super crunchy roots that I couldn't even really scrunch out without causing a huge mess. I personally suggest using a non-aerosol/ spritz style hairspray for this usage. It's easier to target apply it, & really get into the root area & spritz rather than doing spray bursts that close to your scalp lol.

I just got into my wavy hair routine, experimenting for 2 months now. I lost a good bit of hair due to my thyroid medication being too low a dose but it's been increased and now my hair isn't falling out anymore, thank goodness. I'll keep experimenting as my new hair grows in. I have fine hair, low density, and I used to have a lot of it so I really am looking forward to the hair growth and I'm glad I found you. Your videos are very helpful, more than anybody else's since we have similar hair so thank you

I've now graduated to your brush styling and am even more amazed. It took a bit of practice but i got there thanks to your videos. The way you explain it makes it easier than I thought. For me, upside down styling actually works better for me for getting volume, as long as I flip it upright when I’m done and comb it down.
I also use the denman brush, but I use the handle wrap technique, i wrap a giant curl clump around it, then I let it air dry (I wish I could diffuse it) and then I separate those giant curl clumps into small curl clumps, that gives me so much definition but also a bunch of volume! But, I do still struggle with root definition, maybe if I actually used a diffuser that would help.
Another thing, i use the detox kit and the hydro style flexi jelly, and I’ve tried the air dry cream several times, although it gives me great bounce and shine and definition and volume.. it leaves my hair slightly dry and I have to continuously apply a spray in conditioner throughout the week, and today I tried layering the air dry cream with the style balm, but that was TOO much moisture… maybe I will try the thickening lotion, but feel free to give me tips.

Thank you so much for reviewing this product so quickly after it came out! Your videos are always information dense and I really appreciate them. :) My curly/wavy hair is what I call "too few, too fine, and too frizzy" so I must be very careful to use very little in the way of styling products. For the last several months I have been pretty happy with the results I've been getting with mixing the Flexi Jelly and the Feather-Light Styling Cream on my hands, using a little more of the Flexi Jelly in the mix than the Feather-Light Cream. There is enough moisture in these products that I use nothing else after shampooing with a moisturizing shampoo. Now I'm wondering if this Lotion can replace the Feather-Light Cream in my routine to give me fuller results, but I'm also wondering if it will build up over time. Would you please tell me if this Full Body Thickening Lotion washes out as well with a gentle shampoo as the other Curlsmith products that I'm using do? Since it works by creating a film around each hair, I don't want it to add an additional film every time I use it. Thanks! :)

*I'm having a curly hair issue: So I have type 3 curls and when I style them on day one they're defined, I'm having trouble getting volume but that's besides the point. During the night I sleep with my hair in a pineapple and then my bonnet. On day two my curls are all gone and there's lack of definition. How do I fix this?*

Thanks Gena so so much for all your tips and videos.
Question: I'm still finger coiling, and everything is just dandy until I go to blow dry. When I use the diffuser as you demonstrate, the curl families break apart, and I have a head full of individual curls. Volume, yes, curl families, no.
What to do? Is this a product issue? Technique issue? Can this somehow due to the products and low density hair? I should mention my hair is 3A-B curls, fine, thin like yours, and very low porosity.
(Also, if I use a brush after the shower, I get complete frizz, unless I'm specifically curl training.)
I'm learning so much, and am at the end of the first month of my curl journey (having followed the CG method with moderate success for years). Your product suggestions for fine hair are SO HELPFUL. Thanks again from all of us with fine, curly hair!

I have noticed that both the Full Body Thickening Lotion and the Bouncy Strength Volume Foam have the VP/VA Copolymer as the first ingredient after water. Do you know how these two compare in producing volume? I have VERY thin, VERY fine hair that needs volume, so I'm wondering which to use. I already have the Foam, so if that works as well as the Lotion, I won't have to invest in yet another expensive product in adding the Lotion to my growing collection of Curlsmith products. Thanks for all your easy-to-understand help! :)
