We're going back to basics with this new series! Let me know if it's helpful or if it's too "beginner" for you. Also, check out the blog post for the notes summary and more: genamarie.co/2024/01/deep-conditioning-101-beginner-friendly-drugstore/
I like the basics, especially as a guy. Also, hair care can get away from you and become so complex that you forget to reset to basics when something is going wrong.
I would LOVE a full review on Innersense products. I have been curious about that line for awhile but I find the variety of products a little confusing. And I heard that application can be tricky. Thank you!
I have learned so much from your channel. I have baby fine, low density, high porosity hair. I don’t really have damage but I have a few weird areas that next extra help. Especially at my hairline, bang area. My hair loves the sheamoisture conditioner you recommended. I was surprised too because my hair can easily get weighed down. My hair is also loving the sheamoisture daily hydration shampoo and conditioner. I really want to try the line with the blue label. But I’m determined to finish what I have lol. My Walmart has sheamoisture sample packs that I buy for deep conditioning.
Great information! Thank you. Also, loving the wrist bands! I hate, hate, HATE when water drips down (up?🤪) my arms! Will you please provide a link to those? Oh, and yes please to a review of the I Create Curl Memory gel. Thanks again for the valuable information!
I'm struggling with my stylers, not holding as well anymore. I tried to do wet styling instead of damp, so I went back to damp styling but am still struggling. I do a clarifying shampoo every Monday with a deep conditioner, a mild shampoo/conditioner on Wednesday and alternate a bond building and protein shampoo/conditioner on Friday. Should I change something up?
Haha … I always feel like a beginner ! And every video you do I realize that I forgot to do something 😬Today I forgot the scrunching of the conditioner
Have you tested Harrys gel? I am struggling to find a hard gel and venturing out - I am going to try it today. I tried the Ouidad red bottle, and that didn't work - I have troubleshot it (more water/less water/brushing/not brushing/less curl cream/more curl cream/no curl cream etc) and also troubleshot the Curlsmith flex jelly. I've also tried Kenra 19. I am using Moroccan oil curl cream (just a small amount) and having a lot of luck with it. My curls are bouncy and very curly, but they just can't get a cast therefore, they fall. I've tried mouse - didn't work made my hair sticky and gross. When I was much younger, I was able to get a cast so I know I can. I used to use Simply Magic Potion and Simply gel but i don't think they makenit anymore
Hi Gena! I have a question as I am transitioning from doing years of keratin treatment to embracing my natural curls! Since keratin treatment revolves around adding protein to your hair, should I stay away from products with protein? I haven’t gotten my keratin done for about 9 months so I’m not sure if this is enough time to have had my hair go back to its more natural state. Also I don’t even know if this question even makes sense but I have been wondering what the effects, if any, from keratin treatment I need to consider in my curly hair transition. Thank you so much for your helpful videos!!
14:11 - I used the Curlsmith hydrate & soothe mask today and did my best to thoroughly rinse it out but it left my hair feeling sticky and more tangled than before. I clarified my previous wash day. I have very fine, high porosity hair. Soft water. Any idea why it would do this? I’ve been struggling big time with tangles and frizz. I typically use the curlsmith strength shampoo and conditioner (purple label).
always love your helpful and informative videos, gena! i need to check out the NYM bond building mask. have you tried the elizavecca collagen hair mask? i use it in place of my normal conditioner when i want to give my hair some protein without any weigh down. my hair always feels like silk afterwards!!
The minute you brush through, it gets on your scalp. You probably don’t notice it bc you have some coarse hair, but people with thin hair cannot do this step. They should always keep conditioners, especially deep conditioners, at least 2-3 inches away from the scalp.
I know it does. That’s why I massage my scalp really good when I rinse to rinse it all off. You can also just brush through the lengths to distribute it there

When I went to Ulta all they had was the I create lift and I create volume foams. I didn't even realize they had as many products as they do.

Very helpful video, thank you!
¿What is the difference and/or purpose of “bind building” deep conditioners, vs. other protein deep conditioners, btw?
I find a good hair mask at Sally's is sauce Deep conditioner it is amazing

Do you think this deep conditionner is the best one in the market ?

No, I haven't! And thank you
How can i tell if my hair is low or high porosity?
Is it possible to use multiple deep conditioners for different areas?
You could! You could just section your hair off
Can my waves (pretty tight waves) turn into real curls?? I really want that. I have fine hair past my shoulders
If your true natural hair texture is curly, then yes! If you are naturally wavy, you can get your waves to their full health potential
Awesome🎉🎉🎉😊
