This song is a journey to another dimension, we play it yesterday at my dad’s funeral and the atmosphere was something magic and special. Much love, heart and soul❤
I just want to die in the arms of my love to this song on repeat, I actually love crying to this song it’s just so beautiful so emotional it rips the very heart out of you. I love you Bruiuuce!
Here that's why Bruce can touch to all greatest singers...touch Elvis, touch Otis Redding... here's the best of him...the heart of the River. Times that won't came back. A masterpiece.
Thank goodness for RUclips or this performance would have been experienced by those in Tempe that night, and gone forever. (Although it's professionally filmed so maybe it is an extremely rare video that's available somewhere of Bruce at his best - forty years ago.)
@@CPSJSMSUUMUGA I saw him a couple nights later at the LA Sports Arena for the first time. The four of us went and this was my cousin Carol's favorite part of the show and mentioned it for years and years. Carol passed away Tuesday. Loved her very much.
🤷♀️ I don’t understand why there haven’t been more comments on this beautiful AND timeless song’s emotional performance by Bruce!? I’m 70ish now but only heard it a few days ago for the 1st time and now I can’t stop listening to it. Each time I do, it takes on a different meaning and feelings within my 💟 than the last - but always brings tears 😥, esp with the sax 🎷solo! It was released when I was in my mid 20’s and busy working on Wall Street, NYC 🇺🇸 - so maybe I wasn’t as into his (and other’s) music as much as after retiring at an unusually young age (as well as no longer studying and practicing classical piano 🎹 or focusing on other time consuming activities/hobbies). I’d consider this to be my fav Springsteen ‘ballad’ like song that I’ve yet to hear, and of course his ‘Dancing in the Dark’ and ‘I’m on Fire’ are both great ‘classic’ hits I grew up listening to and play to this day. I was fortunate to see Bruce live at a Coldplay concert a couple/few years ago when he appeared as a ‘surprise’ guest and sang them both with Chris Martin. The BOSS is STILL looking 👍 good, sounding 👏 great, and on FIRE 🔥 imo!
This song carried me through tough times - me and my future wife while deployed overseas in late 80's. She is still my girl, and I would still drive all night.
God bless you sir. You are blessed to love someone that much…and she is blessed to be loved that deeply. Never stop “driving all night” for her! You do not want to end up alone…trust me on that.
We are fortunate that in our lifetimes we have been around to witness and listen to the greatest songwriter and live performer there has ever been. May you go on spreading your magic forever Bruce.
If you never stood in the presence of the Big Man and felt his sonorous saxophone reverberate through every pore of your being you never really lived . . . .
I'd drive all night too to know the place Bruce goes to in this song. It's a song sung at the soul level delivered with such incredible passion and love. My heart felt every word, every note. Is anyone ever the same after hearing a performance like this? I truly doubt it. Thank you Bruce and E Street Band.
First listened to this 30 years ago. Always loved it. One of the best songs ever written. "when I lost you I lost myself" lost my beloved girlfriend 4 months ago. She had mental health problems and just went out one day and completely disappeared, never came back. Police looking for her, everything. The searing pain of the last 4 months has been indescribable, beyond words. Hellish. Listening to that rapturous sax solo tears come once again, the dam bursts. Every single day I'm waiting for her to come home, and will wait forever. Awaiting the miracle. Heart and soul. The very worst thing in the world to lose someone you love. You never get over it. As it says in the song, when I lost you I lost myself. Truer words never spoken.
Maldock and David, thank you both for your sympathy and kind words. Really appreciated. Still no news. No idea what happened to her. Miss her like crazy. You can only imagine the thoughts that go through my mind. It is 8 months this coming weekend since nuala disappeared. Like living in a nightmarish limbo world. Still looking out the window for her. Also lost the few friends I thought I had. Their response, just go out and meet someone else, she was mad, and you're better of without her. Totally unbelievable. Told them to get lost. I'm 50 years of age and every now and again feel like ending it all. One thing prevents me. The miracle that she may return one day. And there's a tiny voice in my head saying she will come back. Phew , what a place to be. Indescribable. The experience has put me on a different level whereby I can no longer listen to people waffling on. Rather be alone. Noel
You've gotta keep up the hope she will return..hope and laughter is what seperates us from the animal kingdom..hope and laughter are particular to man...so stay the course Noel.
Love the song, Love the band. This whole Temple The River Tour is awesome. Haven't come across a bad clip! Had the privilege of meeting The Big Man after he came over to our table . He owned the Nightclub in Red Bank New Jersey for a while, and Dave Mason came over and sat with us between sets because we had bought him a drink I'll never forget it . Truly is a Big Man! Love Springsteen, would love to actually meet him! Bucket List …..
Unbelievable. I had to watch this twice...so passionate. To have someone to love like that and to lose her is heartbreaking. His performance says it all.
changed my life in 81 when i bought the river on twin casettes since then seen him 49 times live milan, rome, barcelona, paris and lots in uk so next summer going back to milan to get my hawaii five o 😊 50
First time I sawbBruce was front row right in front of the Big Man. I was a teen but changed my whole trajectory in life. You're so missed Clarence 🖤💫💫💜💫
When I lost you honey sometimes I think I lost my guts too And I wish God would send me a word send me something I'm afraid to lose Lying in the heat of the night like prisoners all our lives I get shivers down my spine and all I wanna do is hold you tight I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes And to taste your tender charms And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms Tonight there's fallen angels and they're waiting for us down in the street Tonight there's calling strangers, hear them crying in defeat. Let them go, let them go, let them go do their dances of the dead (let 'em go right ahead) You just dry your eyes girl, and c'mon c'mon c'mon let's go to bed, baby, baby, baby I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes And to taste your tender charms And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms There's machines and there's fire waiting on the edge of town They're out there for hire but baby they can't hurt us now Cause you've got, you've got, you've got, you've got my love, you've got my love Through the wind, through the rain, the snow, the wind, the rain You've got, you've got my, my love heart and soul
The song, "I’ll Drive All Night," by The Boss reminds me of Claudia. "I swear I'll drive all night again just to buy you some shoes And to taste your tender charms Cause you've got, you've got, you've got my, my love girl . . . I swear I'll drive all night Through the wind, through the rain, through the snow . . . " Once upon a time, for seven years; most every poem I wrote, most every letter I wrote & some that never got sent, thoughts every day, wishes all the time, & hopes that eventually died; were all for her. Once, I did drive through the night, through the rain, & through the fog just to see her one more time. Once, I walked 200-miles & stood before her door with heart pounding, nerves cracking, knees shaking, & an arm so weak knocking on her door was a chore. Every time I hear this song, I always think of her. Now I don't move so good no more, but . . .
This man will go down in history as the greatest singer, song writer, live performer of all time! Beatles studio great, Stones live ok, Dylan writing great but live no, this man as it all he is a genuis 👍
I somehow sort of missed "Drive All Night" in 1980, when "The River" came out. I didn't "get it" until seeing Bruce perform it live in 2014 in Atlanta. This intense love song somehow didn't seem like a Springsteen song until experiencing it live. When I did, whoa. Just incredible.
I wrote earlier that the Who had 3 masterpieces and Bruce only 2. I was wrong, you have The River, Darkness on the Edge of Town, and Born to Run. He created the 3 masterpieces because he is The Boss and always will be to the US fans worldwide! Here is a big salute to you Bruce, I have been a huge fan of yours since the 1970s even when there were 8 tracks out.
I heard a Lotta Bruce on philly radio stations in the 80s...but never heard this one until I saw Reigh over me...powerful song...and Adam knew how to make it even more powerful. Saw it live in '16. Favorite song of the show. This and " Fade Away"
You wrote lovely lyrics Bruce, ya know when certain artist write lyrics like this in there songs that really rip ya heart out well this is one of them.....
Listened to this album as a teenager in my room many times late at night. Loved it then, still love it now. Drive All Night, Stolen Car, Wreck on the Highway.....to name but a few! Makes me feel young again. Unfortunately I can't turn back time but at least this music takes me back there again! Bruce, like so many I have a lot to thank for you 🙏 😊
This song is a journey to another dimension, we play it yesterday at my dad’s funeral and the atmosphere was something magic and special. Much love, heart and soul❤
I love the intensity of Bruce's voice in this song , which happens to be my favorite. So much talent and energy in this mans performance's is amazing.
This version sends shivers down your spine. Just put your heart and soul to it and let it resonate within you. Takes you to another dimension.
The older I get the more I appreciate the genius that is Springsteen.
My wife and I made out to this song (and all the slow songs on The River) often back in the 1980s. Now I can't separate the two.
Someone needs to call a doctor if that sax solo doesn't give you goosebumps, because you may no longer be among the living.
BBApooches the Big Man didn't just play, he was the music, it oozed from him with every note. Best ever.
Amen to that....
Every second of this video, man.
Absolutely
Well said.
He left it all on the stage in 78 to 82 or so. These tours are beyond anything.
Even in 2024 he is putting on life altering shows.
I just want to die in the arms of my love to this song on repeat, I actually love crying to this song it’s just so beautiful so emotional it rips the very heart out of you. I love you Bruiuuce!
Just to buy you some shoes. What a man.

without a doubt by far the greatest song ever written, its a story of love and forgiveness its basically a masterpiece ❤

Noel, that's heartbreaking. If your friend has not returned, I hope, at least, that you know she's safe. Stay safe my brother
Wow😢💔 I'm sorry to hear that

Noel Mull, I hope you'll find her someday! I am 15 years old and I am Springsteen's biggest fan from the Netherlands🇳🇱
You've gotta keep up the hope she will return..hope and laughter is what seperates us from the animal kingdom..hope and laughter are particular to man...so stay the course Noel.
This song and the way of singing reminds me to Van Morrison... What a beauty
I am very happy to be able to share the same song as my respected senior ❤
this song is a passionate declaration of the beauty of life, what we need to be happy....amazing ❤

I played it at my 8 year old daughter's funeral too. Also All That Heaven Will Allow
What a passion! I love this masterful interpretation of Bruce. Who wouldn't want a man like that for herself to drive all night?
Bruce the boss Springsteen and Dianne Lozito..forever etched in this song..THANK YOU BOSS!
Sublime. The greatest love song ever.
The sax solo send chills through me, sound so good. I'm in love with this song, it's a masterpiece.
Love that Great Great Great Saxofone solo of the Big man!
Agreed. The Big man’s saxophone and Bruce’s lyrics, energy and voice drew me to the E Street Band.
You cant do enough for a good girl, and Bruce knows it. Big man smashed it
the big man's finest imo
Behind every great man stands always a Big Man..:)
This and Independence Day are my favorite Clarence solos.
Makes you wonder who he was thinking of when he performed this song that night. Feels like he’s singing to someone pretty specific.
Secrets out I'm his muse

He was making love with someone as he was singing that song. Such an amazing performance!

Amazing. Clarence son does a fantastic job on this song but only dad perfects it. Incredible.
