  • Are you struggling with the getting the new Red Heart All-in-One Granny Square Yarn to work? Let me help you! Let's crochet a square together and I will give you some tips along the way.
    Shop the yarn: bit.ly/4fUTu8M
I'm using Verdant Vine and Ruby Red in this video.
Red Heart All-in-One Granny Square yarn lets you keep on stitchin’ with no color switchin’ because it’s made with pre-set color changes that allows you to make a perfect granny square! And you can make 14 granny squares with just one ball!
The trouble that most of you are having is that you can't get the color change to land exactly at the end of the round so you can seamlessly start a new one. Below are some factors that could be affecting the outcome of your granny squares:
Tension: The biggest tip I have for you is to work on your tension. Tension is how tight or loose you are crocheting your stitches. If I’m getting close to the end of the round and noticing I have a lot of that particular color left before the next color change, I start to make my stitches loose. If I’m noticing I’m running out of color before the color change, I frog some stitches and start to make my stitches really tight.
Hook Size: I am using size H (5mm) hook but I have seen many using a larger hook for the first few rounds and then switch to a smaller hook for the last two. It seems you have slightly more yarn sometimes in the first two or 3 rounds than in the last two. Or maybe you feel like you can get a better tension with a slightly larger or smaller hook.
It takes a few to get the hang of it: Once you get through 2-3 squares you will start to get the rhythm of how the yarn works up. So don't give up too quickly!
It really saves a lot of time since you don't need to fasten off one strand and add in a new one with each color change. With this yarn you will only have two ends to weave in when you are done! It's also a space saver! I was recently traveling and I only need to bring this one ball of yarn instead of 5 different colors. PLUS they have such nice color combinations. You don't have to coordinate the yarn yourself.

I watched so many videos and was sort of obsessed with this yarn. Each color i had a different experience. None were the same. Now I'm back in with the new colors and I need heavy prayer because conquering this yarn was a frustrating and challenging time. Its definitely not for the faint of heart.

Your video was wonderful. I recently a skein in the Aran And Cream color way and I am really happy with the way my squares turned out. I did have to fiddle around with my tension, changing hook sizes a nd dropping the chain one spaces on the last two rows to have enough to finish each color. I'm usually a tight stitched but I had to stitch tighter than usual so I needed to take brakes often to rest my hands and fingers. I only have two squares made so I have plenty of yarn to experiment with hook sizes and tension until I find what works for me. Thanks for making this video. I is so positive and encouraging.

This isn't the pattern they have for this yarn - but everyone I have met who likes it always does it a little different lol. I have to follow the pattern they recommend - and for the last row I always have to have tighter tension for it. :)

I've had to rethink how to make granny squares to get this yarn to work but I strangely enjoy the challenge and don't mind having to work out a different method because getting it to work out in the end is very satisfying!
I have sometimes needed to switch back and forth between hook sizes several times within a round even, not just from one round to the next, such as using a slightly smaller hook in the corners where I figure it won't show as much because there's more stitches all together, so sometimes using say a 6mm hook in the corners and then 6.5mm hook on the sides (I have tighter tension!), but feel that definitely helps!
I don't like to frog back just two sides though and leaving the first two as they were as I feel it shows more that two sides are tighter than the other two, so if I can tell that the yarn is going to run out early on I will frog back to the beginning and then go down a size for that round from the start of it, and it's surprising how much better that can look and also how much extra yarn it can give you!
Very excited about the new colours though so thank you for doing this! I just went to the website and saw that there is a gorgeous black espresso one, stunning! I really appreciate them giving us some more subtle colourways as while they're fun and happy not everyone wants super bright vibrant colours, especially if you want to use it for wearables. Thanks :)

I still haven't got to try this yarn out yet. But I have seen so many youtube video's and mostly nothing nice to say 🥺But I think of it like a movie or a song (that maybe others don't like) I check it out for myself. But I do have a question for you, with this Christmas afghna that you are making from this yarn. How many of each color did you use, and how big (squares on each row) did you use? Thank you for sharing this 💚☃🤍🎄❤☃

Can't believe it took so long to come up with this. I love granny square blankets but absolutely hate weaving ends. I'm glad, but I have so much yarn that I can't buy this to try. 😢

Thanks so much for showing this. I will try it out tomorrow. Is it ok to start off without using the magic ring? I really don't use and I don't like using that starting method. Thanks

Are these new colourways that have come out? I thought this yarn was being discontinued due to it frustrating too many people but I really like the green blend one that you're working with! 😲

I have wanted to try this and got some yarn. I crochet loose so I used a 5 mm hook and chained only one stitch between three sets of DC instead of two. I had to really keep my tension constant for it to work out on each row. Are they really going to discontinue this yarn?
