  • I've heard all your great songs about Newfoundland
    Saltwater Cowboy and all,
But the one i am singing i think you will like
    The Mainlander Newfie it's called
He's worked on the mainland for thirty odd years
And he's all tanned up with the sun,
But now he's retired and he's livin' back home
And i don't think he's havin' much fun.
The Mainlander Newfie he's freezin' to death
    It's still just a 12th of July,
When September comes he'll be stiff as a board
By November he'll wave us goodbye.
The summer's been good but he still feels the cold
His blood hasn't thickened at all,
And he still wants to stay with his family and friends
And we're hopin' he'll make it till fall.
We took him to Torbay to watch the ball game
And the fog rolled in from the bay,
He shivered and shook and his tanned face turned blue
    It's over,he ain't gonna stay!
The Mainlander Newfie he's freezin' to death
    It's still just a 12th of July,
When September comes he'll be stiff as a board
By November he'll wave us goodbye.
From one of Lloyd's oldest recordings "Looking Out To Sea".
