I am a parent of a 6th grader. I stumbled upon your channel a few months ago in my search for teaching aids. If my kid had a teacher like you we would not be opting for homeschooling for 7th grade. You are kicking ass. Wish more teachers made as obvious an effort to teach.
You are spot on about the lack of collegiate interaction and the toll that is taking on our professional community. It’s so hard when all the interactions are meetings, which fall into two categories: dealing with issues/changes or co-workers complaining about the situation. It’s not productive. I appreciate your transparency. This video is exactly the reality of pandemic teaching.
It's so hard. Then there are teachers like me on maternity leave and the teachers are all so overwhelmed with the teaching situation that it is very hard to keep in touch.
I also teach middle school. We have been all remote since the Monday before Thanksgiving. You made me realize something with this video. My district requires teachers to come into school every day and remote teach from our rooms even though no students are there. Many teachers were/are annoyed by this. You made me realize that a positive of this is that I do get to talk to my teammates every day, and not just for "important issues." That casual chat in the AM or between classes or during prep. Hearing how missing out on this is impacting you made me appreciate what I have going on, even though it's obviously still not ideal.
Thank you so much for showing your stress and frustration. So many teachers are pretending like this year is okay and we just need to smile and keep going. I really appreciate your honesty. It is so validating to see I am not alone. I hope you enjoy your winter break, you've definitely earned it.
I always appreciate your transparency and honesty. You are an amazing and inspirational teacher and woman. Thank you for always being 💯 for us, and being the voice we need
This is my first time watching your videos and instant subscribe! It's so refreshing to see someone talking about different religions and cultures (and the things they deal with) in a serious and thoughtful way. I'm working on my alternative certification for 4-12 Social Studies and this makes me so excited to get going, even as hard as it can be. Sending you all the good vibes and hoping this semester is going better!
Thank you so much Megan! I just had the same rant over grades last week and lost it for a few days too. Virtual teaching is exhausting. Also, I feel better knowing that my 7th graders are not unique. They too rarely come to my help sessions in the afternoons. Knowing we are experiencing the same behaviors does lessen the personal burden we all feel in helping our students be successful.
Thank you so much for saying that!! It's the same way I've been feeling the whole year and it's so relieving to hear someone else struggling with the same issues. So again, thanks!
I feel you and your mini meltdown! I have felt that way for months. I hope you’ve been relaxing over break. Also...it’s crazy to see how much Jenson has grown!
Thank you for putting your stress out there. It's ALL true, and keeping it together all day every day definitely takes its toll. I hope you are having a peaceful break and that you recharge enough to get you through to Spring Break. Belated Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday.
I am right there with you. In my county in Ga. we had to go back hybrid in October. I’ve been teaching both f2f AND virtual at the same time. It’s been a lot and we are doing the same thing with grading. We have been on break since last week and I still have SO many last minute assignments from months ago to grade because report cards are due when we get back. This year has for sure challenged everything we know of teaching. Our jobs have been turned upside down. Naturally we are stressed! Hang in there girl, we will get through this together! ❤️
Girl! I hear you 💯! I have the same thing in elementary school. It’s hard not to take it personally. I’ve been really down lately and I think you just nailed the reason why! We love you ❤️
Ha! I'm the same way with grading. My students can pass my class if they do something. We have every Wednesday without students, so we meet as a school for one hour, then break out into small groups for one hour. I end up with 3 hours of meetings with staff every week. I hope you are having a wonderful break!
Rant on when you need to. Teaching is one of the most stress filled things I have ever done in my life! I hope you are having a wonderfully relaxing break filled with lazy days in pjs. I do have one question for you: What kind of purse is that in the background? I'm a purse-a-holic and NEED a purse like that one! Thanks so much for all of the content you share. I truly appreciate all the work it takes to do what you do:)
I was going into school to teach as well just to keep my sanity, but once California shutdown again, my district forced us all to teach from home. 😕 I also don’t eat cereal with milk. 😋 Love your vlogs.
I teach 8th grade ELA and we're completely virtual. I'm feeling and seeing all the same things with my students. I wish I could be in my classroom and reorganize my books...I miss my books.🥺
You are doing great. It’s hard to not read deeper into some messages because I often feel that those with messages do not have a clue about the abyss that we teach to in some of our classes. I am worn out daily because we juggle both remote and face to face students at the same time. Hang in there. We are the guiding light! Btw I wanted to ask the purpose of setting up your bookshelves if your students are virtual? Love your vlog and all that you do!
I have felt the same way this year about the various missives coming from Administration. Even though part of our work this year has been in the classroom Administration is so busy that they are just behind closed doors. Because of this, I think, everything that comes through feels condescending. Instructions about making sure we do this or that come down when we've already been doing it for 4 months and giving our life blood to the children. Then something inane comes out and I get my back up. And I know it's just their job but that's what happens when there's a disconnect between what's happening higher up and what's happening on the ground. It's not the fault of anybody it's just that this is an incredibly busy year for everyone. But I do feel a little bit like the support for teachers is minimal if not nonexistent at times.
Hello .my name is hafida joulal am a student at waketech community college in the field of early childhood education and I love teaching ..I love your video ..it will inspire me and encourage me
Hi Megan, I wanted to ask you about the Keurig you have in your classroom. Does it work well? I've read reviews that the slimmer Keurigs aren't as good as the big ones; however, I'm interested in replacing the bulky one I've inherited.
@@toocoolformiddleschoolblog ooh ok! I’d love to substitute teach but I’m not sure how dropping off my toddlers and making it on time to work to sub. Any tips?
I’ve been teaching online since August but we have reopened as well so we have to teach at school. It’s very stressful. Half the teachers in the school are virtual teachers and half are in person. No one is happy. But teaching online while safer is very draining. I don’t know what half of my students even look like. Attendance is terrible and I too throw points around like confetti. It’s hard to teach into a void.
Have you met with any friends for virtual meetups? I have done a few times where we did an escape room and a murder mystery and it feels like I did something social. As a new mom it has been hard. I am going to start online teaching at the end of January. Just do your best and don't forget self care.
@@Heyu7her3 Hi! First we tried an escape room for charity. www.escapefromquarantine.com/ We did the original one, so haven't done this one yet, but the first was fun and my friend and I solved it in about 1.5 hours. We purchased a murder mystery on www.mymysteryparty.com and friends all chipped in. It was good! We also purchased a murder mystery party on Etsy for about half the price but it is better to go with that website as the Etsy one I found the motives and alibis were not clear and it wasn't as enjoyable. Hope you guys have fun!
Our admin "pats us on the back and I really dislike it. They use that to avoid truly addressing the dynamics that we have to deal with in teaching hybrid. But I don't like ice breakers in meetings, so I'd actually rather have them address the high points and let us go lol

Your rant- 💯 🙌🏻 this vacation is so needed, just to recharge in order to go back to the ball of stress that is teaching in 20-21

The Latkes recipe song is my favorite too 😂. Loved getting this window into your world, praying things will be better soon 🙏
Thank you Marion, the coffee seriously helped! 😂
Omg your “breakdown” is my brain daily.. thank you for making me feel more normal. Teaching is hard enough but this pandemic is a whole new beast. 😭

YES. The rant is spot on. The lost-in-translation in tone is the hardest part.
And, wow...you've got a LOT of books. Totally jealous.
And in very good condition!
I have to actively remember to assign every email a positive tone!
This is exactly how I feel and it has been so hard to express it. Thank you for saying these things....

How do you manage having a toddler and being a teacher? Do you have help to drop off your son at his preschool?
It’s really so much easier now that he’s a toddler! He’s been at the same daycare since 3 months old, right now it feels like a piece of cake! 😂
