- THE ADUT AKECH DOCUMENTARY.
The fashion industry has always been a dynamic and ever-changing world, where new faces and talents constantly emerge. One such talent that has taken the fashion world by storm in recent years is Adut Akech. A young and rising supermodel of South Sudanese heritage, Adut Akech has captured the hearts of the fashion industry and fashion enthusiasts alike with her stunning looks, undeniable talent, and powerful presence on and off the runway.
Early Life and Background
Adut Akech was born on December 25, 1999, in a refugee camp in Kenya. She was raised by her mother after her father's death (before she was born.) Adut's mother, who was a refugee from South Sudan, worked hard to provide for her family, and they eventually moved to Adelaide, Australia, when Adut was just seven years old. Growing up, Adut faced challenges like discrimination and racism, but she persevered with the support of her mother, who encouraged her to embrace her unique beauty and pursue her dreams.
Rise to Fame
Adut Akech's modeling career started at the age of 16 when she was scouted by a local agency in Adelaide. She quickly gained recognition for her striking features, including her dark complexion, high cheekbones, and stunning eyes. Her unique look and undeniable talent soon caught the attention of major fashion brands and designers, and she was soon signed by IMG Models, one of the world's leading modeling agencies.
Adut's breakthrough moment came in 2016 when she made her runway debut during the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2017 show at Paris Fashion Week. Her stunning appearance on the runway caught the attention of the fashion industry, and she quickly rose to fame. Since then, Adut has become a prominent figure in the fashion world, known for her grace, poise, and captivating presence on the runway.
Runway Success
Adut Akech has graced the runways of some of the most prestigious fashion events and worked with renowned fashion designers and brands. She has walked for top fashion houses such as Chanel, Givenchy, Valentino, Prada, Dior, Alexander McQueen, Fendi, and many others. Adut has also been a regular fixture at fashion weeks in Paris, Milan, London, and New York, where she has consistently mesmerized audiences with her powerful and elegant walk.
One of Adut's most memorable moments on the runway was during the Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2018 show, where she closed the show in a stunning bridal gown. Her appearance as the final look in the show was historic, as she became the second black model to ever close a Chanel haute couture show, following in the footsteps of Naomi Campbell in 2004. This moment was not only a significant milestone for Adut's career but also a groundbreaking moment for diversity and representation in the fashion industry.
Campaigns and Magazine Covers
Adut Akech's unique beauty and undeniable talent have also earned her numerous high-profile campaigns and magazine covers. She has worked with some of the most prestigious fashion brands and graced the covers of renowned fashion publications. Adut has been the face of campaigns for brands such as Valentino, Saint Laurent, Versace, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Moschino, and many others.
In addition to her campaign work, Adut has also been featured on the covers of several international fashion magazines, including Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, i-D, and Dazed. Her striking features and captivating presence on the cover of these publications have further solidified her status as one of the most sought-after models in the industry.

Thanks to everyone who commented about the sound levels! Know that future videos won’t be this chaotic, sonically. 😂😂😂🤎
Her mum encouraging her to continue! African parents usually don’t believe in unconventional career paths so for her to support always makes me smile to hear someone parents supported their dreams and not the parents.
That part touched me too! I remember reading that and I was like “wow.” 😂🥹🥹🥹🥹😍
Well, she is bringing in the 💵! Lol
@@Mscavalli2 she wasn't bringing then when her relatives stopped her mom....
She was 15 then.......they wanted her to to school......modeling is also seen as Prostitution kind of job by African parents and old relatives that's why........
Agree 💯 it's awesome her parents supported her maybe her Mom knew deep down she'd be successful as a Model
that part made me tear up and say out loud "what a good Mom".
I think Adut is the most beautiful supermodel since the 90s. She looks like a sculpture that has come to life.
Absolutely, drop dead gorgeous. 😍
She has a very delicate beauty she reminds me of a doll very fine features
@@BlackandIndiawww…it’s sad that u can’t appreciate beauty the way the rest of us can see beauty …
Adut was not a model in the 90s. She came up much later.
❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
She's utterly flawless. I think shes sadly underrated here in Australia, i think we know why...
Mhm. 🥺🥺🥺
Exactly, you are 💯
I swear the juxtaposition of Adut. Long slender body but her face with her high cheek bones, porcelain skin.. literally a living baby doll. She’s so unique
It’s really part of her allure. So unique and stunning.
Sudanese features are striking in general
@@msziita facts! Most my fav models have been from there
There are many women with her exact beauty

as a fellow refugee seeing her succeed makes my heart happy!

🥹🙌🏿 Where from?
Someone who young girls can actually look up to! I'm so proud of her
Especially young dark skin black girls before the black beauty standard was Beyonce and Rihanna nothing against them but it's so important to have a dark skinned black girl that young black girls coming up now can look up to
YES! She still so young, but has inspired so many little ones to follow in her footsteps. 🥰🥰🥰
Yeah I dressed her for Naomi Campbells charity gala . Dressed her in a purple Valentino dress , she was the model of year at the time 2019 . She was so humble and sweet always said thank you for everything, I didn’t even realise she was the model of the year and upcoming I just thought what sweet girl 🥰.
😍😍😍 THE INSIDER INFO-another commenter mentioned it, but you really never hear a bad thing about her. SWEET IRL! 🥹
My fave. She looks like a doll and she walks amazing! ❤❤❤
And her walk was so confident from the beginning. BORN WITH IT. 😍
@@astonemmm she doesnt even try. Her walk is just fierce. Thats why I love her
adut is stunning. she has this ethereal, glowy quality to her that not everyone can embody. not to mention, she is so strong.
I love that Karl called out the team and asked why hadn’t she been brought to him or seen in Chanel in front of everyone. ❤ That’s what good people do, stand up for others. 🙏
Love your content! ❤🥰
Thank you so much! 🥹🙌🏿
I’m so happy we’re celebrating Karl right now, and the Met and the Vogue, lol. 🤎 Many mentions of him in college, and his power (particularly in the 80s-90s).
Him having a thing for black girls does not make him a good person. He was generally still a piece of shit.
Karl has always been super supportive of black Models and regularly featured black Models in his ad campaigns and shows he walked the walk he was a real one
Yeahhh idk about karl being a"good person " but that was cool
Karl ≠ good person but that was nice
I absolutely adore Adut... she is ethereal. I love your channel and what it represents. I am South African and love my African brothers and Sisters!
BEAUTIFUL! 🥹😍 And thank you so much!
We are not brothers and sisters. South Africans are evil, murderous xenophobes to Africans. I wouldn't spit on one of you if you were on fire.
Yeah right.. we've seen your love after the great nelson Mandela's death
@@elongaabigail8636 did you say the same to Ghana when such occurred or Nigeria? Just that we received our freedom later and social media is filled with such propaganda doesn’t make you right at all. Sunny South Africa is filled with warm people and lots of Ubuntu. We live as one people, my Uncles are from Mozambique and cousins from Ethiopia. We are family no matter what you believe. Love my African brothers and sisters from the diaspora 🇿🇦❤️
Remarkable story. She sounds really authentic so I'm not surprised that she is successful. I'm an educator who helps students prepare their personal statements for college and I frequently find myself encouraging them to go beyond the negative aspects of their life-story to show why it matters in their narrative. Here Adut emphasizes the positive aspects of her life in a refugee camp. You can't get more aspirational than this. Beautiful woman indeed.
I LOVE THIS. 😍😍😍
This is great and encouraging to people. I was just talking to my daughter that she has to dissolve all negative from her mind including what she doesn't want, and focus on the positive things she desire, it's the only pivot to greatness. If you can't then go general where nothing is important except the air you breathe, nature, life

Hey Ian, what’s your email address?
😆😆😆😆
She just did an Australian Vogue Cover (April) with her small brother, who’s equally as stunning and ethereal.
I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Her family is SO DAMN BEAUTIFUL. 😍😍😍😍😍
She is the beauty standard
AND IS. Lmao. The way people paying for lips like hers… 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Period. So pretty!!
She looks like a Doll her features are so delicate she has a very ethereal type of beauty
No one is. She is absolutely gorgeous, in and out it seems; but there is no such a thing as anyone being the beauty standard, in detriment of how everybody else looks. Stop with that toxic bs already! 🛑✋
@@WhoWho569 I hear you, but I also will (always) be okay with anyone calling a Black woman a beauty standard.
Historically, they’ve been told they aren’t-Black models are deliberately told they aren’t the beauty standard, and are canceled or sent home.
Adut, and any (every) Black woman destroying the myth that “Black models cannot sell magazines” ARE THE BEAUTY STANDARD. 🤎
I like Adut, she is so pretty and her personality is so warm. Best wishes, pretty one!
Heavy on the warm! You can feel the sweetness! 😂😍
There is nothing ""typical" about being bullied for your skin tone ...that trauma is life altering every time
It isn’t typical-but most supermodels are bullied for their unique looks by kids (and adults, tbh) who don’t see what’s in front of them…
@@astonemmm thank you 4 your efforts... I finally see Me in these beyond beautiful ladies
It's extremely typical for black people when in predominantly white spaces (and, unfortunately, some majority-black spaces that are the result of colonization).
I was bullied aswell so it' just happens, even your family can bully you. Typical
Very typical unfortunately... I wish it wasn't but that's why I always chose to be natural. I want young woman to see me and want to be natural
By any beauty standard she has a face of perfection.
*whispers* people paying for her features… 👀😂
Love love love love love love Adut, ethereally striking, beautiful and soft.
Me too! She reignited my love for the industry years back. It was dull out here, THEN BOOM!
*Adut enters the chat* 😂😍🙌🏿
Adut is my dream woman!! She takes my breath away. Her countenance is as gorgeous as her physical appearance 😍
So elegant! 😍
She's literally so beautiful 😍😍😍
Her features are crazyyyy. 😍😍😍😍
Agree I love her rich dark skin she's just divine
Kenya has raised a lot of great people❤️🙌🏽 I’m so proud
🤔 you mean her mother did!!
Lols
She was just a kid& never had been to school in Kenya,.
So Kenya didnt raise her
She was raised in. Australia by her mother who believed her dreams
Though good on her that she still does remember being a happy 4yr in a refugee camp
Very humble young woman she is.
#ProundSS
She was from South Sudan, then a refugee in Kenya.
@@missn8034I was born in Kenya and yes the country welcomes refugees with open arms, but they don’t support you in any shape or form. I don’t even miss the country. Full of tribalism etc I can’t even get a kenyan passport yet I was born there. Such a shame I have a British passport instead.
yes it’s a beautiful country, but I don’t see what the country did for me apart from welcome us.
@@Zazezoo So Kenya is 'so bad', 'you don't even miss it' yet you want its passport?!
The refugee camp was at the border of Kenya and Uganda and both countries were offering supplies
Adut is the reason I became a Model!!!!!! I just adore her she reminds me of a Bratz doll she's so pretty but more importantly she comes across so authentic and kind and genuine in her interviews and better yet you never hear anything bad of her
Ever. I want nothing but the BEST for her, frfr. 🙌🏿
How did she inspire you? You don't look like or have anything outwards in common. You would not have any of the same hardships or experiences as her at all, like nothing. You just wanted to get some attention in this comment off of this black model who went through hell because of her skin. Your skin, hair, and looks are the complete opposite of hers. You probably wrote the same thing on some white models' comments .too. I'm mixed and I would never have the same experiences as her and would not be disrespectful trying to ride her wave in the comments.
What a remarkable girl and story. Can you guys believe Models Iman, Adut and halima all grew up in the same refuge camp. what an amazing models.
😯 The connection is WILD!
Iman has NEVER lived in a refugee camp maybe as a visitor.
Why do people still think Iman was a refugee she wasn't
I hope Adut knows how beautiful she is. Her features reminds me of Lupita and they are gorgeous women. They have perfect facial features and perfect bodies. They also have beautiful personalities. ♥️
🥹🙌🏿🙌🏿
I was brought to tears by her story. What a resilient and bright young woman. The way she empowered herself and didn’t let anything keep her from her destiny really speaks to me. Well done, Adut ❤
🥹🥹🥹 And I think the most beautiful part of this is that she inspires. Stories like this help others see small parts of themselves in it. 🤎
@@astonemmm ourselves, our friends, the whole universe 🌏 it allows us to hear just a snippet of Adut’s journey in this life we all shared together 👏🏾🖤 I am grateful we all made art together.
CONGRATULATION TO ADUT AKECH! SUCH A PROUD MOMENT FOR HER AND HER FAMILY. IT IS ALSO A VERY PROUD AND INSPIRING MOMENT FOR ALL UP-AND-COMING YOUNG, BLACK MODELS. 🤩🥂🍾

What an unbelievably beautiful woman. Inside and out. You can’t manufacture this sort of beauty. Such a brilliant stunning human.
GENUINE AND FLAWLESS. 🥹🤎
She is STUNNING and ADORABLE!!!! Her mother and family members raised her quite well. Continue to soar, Adut!!
I am glad she spoke about short hair on black models. Short hair for most black models (especially dark skin) is the standard. I have always wondered why it seems like DS black models rarely have mid to long natural hair.
THIS! I wanted to speak on this for a while. Natural is SO FINE for me, but also, in an industry like this, why is the default “cut her hair short”?
Almost like it’s to appease and alleviate lack of Black hair knowledge. Hmm. 🤔
She is elegant, has redefined the face of modelling for women of colour, is outspoken n most importantly uses her voice to upbraid the industry n to encourage women of colour everywhere...love you, Adut🖤🖤🖤Certainly Lagerfeld recognized how gorgeous n talented she was n called out the Chanel folks on why she hadn't been brought to his notice...love him for this coz he honoured her by asking her to be his Chanel bride💙🖤

She is absolutely stunning! 🤩
I remember seeing her in the perfume advert and thought, wow that’s unusual to pick a blk model, never mind a dark skinned one and thinking whoever chose her had genuine good taste and picked her not just for her beautiful looks, but for something extra special. Turns out I was spot on from what Adut says as to why she was selected.
She is making great achievements in the industry and I certainly champion dark skinned blk models, because their exquisite beauty has been ignored for decades and it’s more than time that we see it represented! Anybody who gets the opportunity to model, should take it, if that’s what they want. It’s an opportunity to earn a lot in money, travel and open up other opportunities.
However, I find it ridiculous that the career of wearing clothes and being photographed is given such admiration, accolades and prestige and that people talk about the career like it’s the holy grail or the worthiest job on earth. It so isn’t and they’re are a lot of shady and unsavoury things that go on in the industry that are mostly kept under wraps and involving minors, that are the core aspects of the industry and not just rare happenings. Fashion modelling has many deep rabbit holes!
I wish Adut safety and continual success in her career and life.
