Turning Point: 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty

  • On 19 November 1977 Egyptian president Anwar Sadat, and once sworn enemy of Israel, made history by becoming the first Arab leader to step foot onto the Israeli state.
The visit paved the way for an agreement between Egypt and Israel; the deal, however, was negotiated without Palestinian representation and left them feeling gravely betrayed.
In this episode of MEE’s history series Turning Point, we take a look at how the 1979 Egypt-Israel peace treaty legitimised Israeli occupation and how it impacted the Palestinian struggle for liberation.

@@alaanasser3243 Sadat didn’t devastate Arab unity 😂 if anything Sadat was the only red pilled leader of his time. He knew very well how the world functions for real and tricked the system by taking back his lost territory. The fact that Arabs (who betrayed him during war time) went mad that he went to sign a treaty is a different story. King Hussein of Jordan went to Israel to tell them of zero hour, and Syria had already withdrawn from the golan with a secret deal with Israel long before camp David. Fact is Sadat knew Israel was sitting with Arabs behind his back and all he did was publicize the one for Egypt.
Arab unity took a hit when the war in Yemen took place (which Nasser helped prolong) and when the Algerians funded the Polisario front against their neighbors Morocco (Nasser also played a role in that). For some reason, the Arabs despite being powerful, seem to have considered themselves on the backfoot in every deal with the Zios. For instance, clearly Israel would have badly wanted to have Suez access, yet somehow Sadat back in the day, didn't seem to think this a good enough concession to force the Zios to yield. Same with Yasser Arafat in the Oslo deal. He was offering them security which they did badly want. But yes, there is the factor that the US was a hidden player in the game.

    Just a few things:
Israel didn't want gaza snd wanted egypt to take it. Saddat refused. There were more settlements in Sinai than in Gaza.
Saddat was eventually assasinated, as common in the arab world.
Egypt been fighting the muslim brotherhood, which Hamas is a branch of, for many years. It's a peace based on joint goals and common enemy, allthough the egyptian won't say it, that's why the Gazans have so little support from egypt.
Both Egypt and Israel can be good neighbours to Gazans if they put down their arms and chose development instead of death.
Egyptian allready have problems with Isis and mb in Sinai, they don't need more redicals.

They rejected giving their lands to foreign, murderous colonizers that came out of nowhere and getting nothing in return. Like most sane people would.
"Give me 50% of everything you own. I'll give you nothing in return. I'll also do unspeakable things to your loved ones." Would you accept this deal? No? Congratulations, you're an Arab.

Superb research. Shame on that traitor and current traitors signing a deal with the devil over the blood of the Palestinian children. Be prepared of God's wrath. Shame on you all.

Sorry but Palestinians biggest mistake is not taking the same deal that Sadat fought for and secured. Now their best hope is 10% of the land that they could have had back then. Israel played them into thinking they can have it all back.

This report fails to explain why the 5 years interim period didn’t lead to an independent Palestinian state as per the framework. It was because Palestinians were played like a fiddle by the Israelis as they managed to undermine the PLO’s authority and incited divide between Palestinians to make them believe that they can have all their land back and not just Gaza and the West Bank. Sorry but they should have taken the deal and remained united. That is not Egypt’s fault. Egypt got every inch of their land back. Sadat was a hero.
