NAMM 2024 - Suzuki - Omnichord OM-108
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- At NAMM 2024 we met up with Yu Horiuchi from Suzuki who introduced us to the new re-issue of the Suzuki Omnichord. Originally produced in 1984, the OM-108 has been improved with new features, like on board strummable and syncable drum pads, of which Yu gave us a splendid demonstration.
The Omnichord can transmit midi through its 5 pin din port, and it looks like it will be an excellent way to get some expressive strumming into our lives.
Suzuki Omnichord Available: July 2024 Price: 800 USD

Already my favorite presentation of NAMM 2024 😃
playing drums on an omnichord is great
love it
Wo bleibt denn der Artikel? 😉
@@AnnesYarak mal sehen, ist ja schon seit Monaten bekannt dass die kommt ;)
Aber Preis und Optik sind neu!@@synthanatomy
This man has three passions:
Coffee, Coffee and Omnichord.
If he is from Japan, he has to get up 7 hours earlier than usual. or just stay up, which I suspect is his strategy.
We need to write a letter to the CEO of Suzuki to make Yu best employee of this decade
I have zero interrest in the product but the guy is so fun, give him the NAMM 2024 presenter award
I second that
800 is steep do this, I’d get an iPad instead. But yeah, presenter did his best.
I love Yu! most enthusiastic presenter ever! Plus he shredded on that drum patch!
I love Yu too
It's too bad the product is overpriced by several hundred dollars
This guy doing the demo is the best ever! 😂
Best NAMM demo ever.
If he didn’t sell it, no one can. Awesome presenter.
,,,We need more people like Yu in our world,,what a breath of fresh air he really is!!
He's gonna have a hard time selling a 200 dollar cheese box for 809
No one can at the price lol😂😂
@@zoned7609ife say $300-350 would be reasonable
Best product demo EVER! Utterly murdered Let it Be. Pure class 😂
this guy alone won NAMM2024!!
And then lost it by telling us the price ..
@zoned7609 well the price isnt his fault im sure, its way too much yea but the guy made me wish I had the spending money for this so he did his part lol 😂
800, geez that’s a lot
WHY DO I WANT ONE
Theres probably more than 800 reasons. Its one of the coolest instruments ever!@aaronmoore3050
Way too much IMO.
Well, it IS an instrument
@@dwb1980no, it's not worth anywhere near 800. Please don't support this greed from suzuki
Girl, $800??? You can find one used for considerably lower price. Either this is going to drive the second hand prices up, or they're overestimating how many people will pay $800 for nostalgia. For $800 you can buy so much better gear. I had one of those for years back in the day, and they're fun, the strip is fun, but it's not $800 fun.
Yu Horiuchi is a very enthusiastic and enjoyable regardless of the overpriced toy, which TE has a stake to that idea originally.
This has more features than the the classic versions. Percussion control, keyboard control and most of all MIDI! The only reason the old versions prices are hard is because of scarcity. There will be more info coming on these soon.
OM 250 and 300 also had midi. Only the drum kit stuff is new. It's a bit disappointing for an 800 USD toy. @@BFreeMedia13
@@G00G00L I'm glad other people are saying it. There's nothing that adds $500 more value than older models
@@SkyP1e That's simply not true. There's new analog and digital sound generation, much better percussion, and midi can be strummed out to other synths. Older models came out literally decades ago when manufacturing electronic instruments was less expensive as well, and musicians know what they are, so they have held their value extremely well. From what I have heard and seen from musicians playing these, they're priced quite low for what they offer a musician.
@@TB-wvvvwexcuses. This little plastic equipment is less useful than an NI keyboard and others but still wants to be priced that way 😂. People (like you) just want it now because some musicians used it for songwriting and little jingles here and there, but there are way better equipment for songwriting that are on the same price point and features and have more quality components than this that will last a long time before you shell out another $800.
OK The joke about the 800$ was funny now what's the real price ?
$799
@@chrispoopi-qi3qg Ok then
THIS IS ROCK N ROLL
@rottenramone: "And small drums called tom-toms ..." :)
I was giggling with delight for that whole demo =) And the new drum section is surprisingly compelling.
This guy deserves a raise! Love it!
Was so excited for this, but the price is such a severe let down. 800 is way too high. This should be a 300 dollar piece of equipment max.
Looks great but dang... Was hoping the new one would cost less than the vintage models go for...
dude I was hoping the same; it’s understandable why it’d be more expensive! but it’s still.. a lot for the instrument haha
@@honeybeechaosit's not understandable at all, it is simply greed.
Look up what the parts cost, and the labor that they pay their workers.
Suzuki is pure greed.
Dang the drum section is sick.
Super cool reissue, just a bummer about the price
That's putting it politely
I almost spit out my seltzer when he said the price.
Yeah, I agree with this - looks cool, but that's a lot!
Even jorb has to deal straight about that price. It's too much and we all know it.
Don't worry, just do what I do: when it's released, wait for rich people to buy it, then get bored with it in less than a month, then buy it on the used market for $500-600.
I love this so much. I have a vintage Omnichord in my studio, and although I don’t use it often, when I need THAT SOUND it is just perfection. This updated version looks fun. And Yu’s sheer joy at demoing it is also perfection.
Yu was born for this job! The enthusiasm is awesome then just drops absolute craziness. 🔥
$800??? Does Yu come with it as your own personal cheerleader?
800usd is way too high. Something in the region of 250 - 350 would make a lot more sense for what it offers.
They are priced too low for what they offer a musician, actually. Those looking for a toy, or who can't tell the difference, should go to a toy store.
Times have changed, we don't live in a world with the same price structures like 10 years ago.
$800???? Insane
@Zigest Very bad. Way overpriced.
Right!?
800. I'll dig out my original one that my dad got us in 82. Was fun playing when I was a kid
I guess it's not going to destroy the vintage market after all. . . . Fingers crossed he said "a hundred" and not "eight hundred".
check the description... $800:/
Iconic, yes. But $800?? I could get a Teenage Engineering KO 2 and an Arturia Minifreak and have a more beast setup with that kind of money 😢 . But the beat repeat function on the omnichord is kinda cool though
Perfect tradeshow demo! I'll be scouring youtube for more of this guy.
My day two of NAMM will be 50% trying to become best friends with Yo. I talked to him for a second today and decided to come back when he was less busy.
$800 seems high. I wonder why that is?
Best demo on Sonicstate for all these years! Love this guy!
This is how you present your product!😀
i strive to have this mans energy
Never mind the Omnichord, I want Yu’s energy and skills 😍
That guy hitting the drums made my day 😇
Oh my god I love this guy
love the guy hes cool and quickly demonstrates and makes you smile at the same time, he could sell a lot of these
Thank you Yu, Yu are amazing!
I just love this demonstrator's enthusiasm. Class act.
Best. Representative. Ever.
This guy needs to make and album with just him jamming on the drum pad mode
Unexpected surprise, great presentation. Expensive, but could be worth it, the midi out makes it interesting.
Yeah, I feel like the demonstration really doesn't communicate how much you can really do with this thing.
Don't get me wrong, the guy isn't doing a bad job of showing it off in terms of the surface level functionality, but it's an incredible songwriting tool and I feel like a lot of people are going to be confused about why this is $800.00
I've been fortunate to have a go with one of them and the way that the interface opens up the ability to create really dynamic and unexpected chord sequences with ease is really amazing.
This is going to shine at its best with the use of the midi outputs because the inbuilt sounds are the type of thing you'd expect to come from a children's toy, but hooked up to a DAW you would be able to put together a chord sequence in a matter of moments, then use that as the basis for a whole arrangement by simply copying the midi information and dividing the notes between a few different instruments.
If you're in the studio, the sky is the limit with what you can do with this as the starting point
Nothing about this product justified the 800 dollar price.. Nothing.
@@zoned7609 800 dollars isn't what it used to be.
Best demo ever
What the hell did I just watch 1:35 that’s was so crazy. I wasn’t ready 😂. Amazing
Hellloooow, man... perfect example of honest enthusiasm for a product beats language issues !! Highly entertaining, esp. the drum presentation , where the video seems to be in time lapse 🤣and If you still have the Namm rosettes - pls give'em all to him !
This guy deffo belongs on stage, he kills it !!!
Thank Yu!
Best demo of NAMM ever. This will be as much of a meme as the Creative Keyboard Breakbeat (in the best way possible) ❤
Shout out to this guy! Great demo
He shows the drum features, and at first I'm like "well okay boring but okay" then at @1:45 he goes nuts
i am a massive omnichord fan. i got a vintage OM-84 for a reasonable price years ago. my OM-84 ended up broken somehow and is unable to output any signal. i’m not an electrician, so i never figured out how to fix it. i’m saying all of that just to say, i’ll probably end up picking up one of these new omnichords eventually. i wish it wasn’t so expensive or had a more robust feature set. maybe there’s something I don’t understand that makes the price reasonable, but i don’t see why a little plastic synth costs $800 USD. it would be awesome if it had a metal housing or more built in oscillators. controlling plugins with this new omnichord sounds REALLY fun and cool.
battery leakage? does it power on?
i think the old are quite serviceable nowadays
Just in case you didn't know, there's a number of Omnichords that they came out with as upgraded versions of the original that can also do midi, so you may be able to pick one of them up more cheaply.
I think that they are limited to just being able to do the chords and probably can't output additionally midi channels simultaneously for the touch control and drum tracks
I highly recommend you not buy one of the new ones until they lower that price. 800 is prohibitively expensive for something worth 200 300 TOPS
There is @notchaudio765 repairing Omnichords! Google Notch Audio LLC.
Did he just say $800 USD?
Yeah, way too much.
@@deanevangelista6359 yes, it’s a death sentence to average sales.
This dude is on FIRE! Bro this was awesome.
I can tell that people whining about the price are not musicians or people who buy musical instruments. This one is an improvement over the last popular model that came out many years ago. I've seen people make beautiful music with these in a unique style; there are different ways to strum and play notes and percussion and you can strum out midi to other synths as well. Musicians that have used them in the past include Brian Eno, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, and others.
Haha awesome 😁😁 such a sweet dude 😆😂❤️ drum part was killargh
Fabulous ! 😁
$800?!?!
Its cool but not 800 dollars cool. Think this is a pass for me, I'll just keep going with my Q-Chord.
There is another timeline where Yu Horiuchi is more famous than Taylor Swift. I long to live in that timeline.
Wow! Great presentation.. cool product!
Letty be, letty be, letty be oh letty be, speaky words of wisdom, letty be - I love this dude and he absolutely sold me thing. His drumming was fire.
Reckon Nick and the team should get this guy on one of the Sonic Talk shows for sure!,,Yu's enthusiasm is top drawer!!
....Nick Batt,Gaz Williams & YU,,,NOW THAT WOULD BE A SHOW!!
$800? Sheeet, I may have to join a church.
Give that man a raise
amazing presentation!!!
Awww!! ❤
This Presentation Wins NAMM. I freaking love this guy! ❤
800 tho
Great demo!
NO WAY!!!! Heck yes
Awesome! Excited about it. Very cool! But I do wish it was a little cheaper.
The lad's fantastic!
800 bucks!? Is this from Suzuki or TE?
Goodness those things bring back some memories.
Let’s make this guy a star
This is a 10/10 product presentation
shoutout Yu Horiuchi. rent was due. great presentation.
Yu, we wanted a current cheaper version. We can buy the old ones for 800USD HAHAHA
This is awesome.
I'll be glad to have just the strum controller as MIDI controller and have the posibility to create my own chord with keyboard for instance.
I think he got lessons from the old guy at Creative, he knew how to drum on a keyboard
This made me happy! 🙂
a japanese salaryman just having fun and living his best life
OmnichordMan is now a Legend!...
Yu is right. It looks super fun.
Give that man a raise!
800$?? i'll pass. I did prefer the chocolate color too LOL
800 USD???? After listening to the official demos from the Suzuki website, I'd have expected something closer to 200 USD or so, but never that high of a price. Are the electronics inside of this thing really that pricey?
That was the most Japanese presentation ever :D big love
They need to make an 80'sstyle pro shot ad with him!!
He surely has to be the son of the Prodikeys demo guy “This is rock and roll!”
It has a MIDI out, great. I actually really like the analog drums (the snare is a bit naff but the rest sound lovely for that analog beatbox vibe)
Beware of snare syndrome. Every snare is good, just drum that in for a moment and you shall understand thst a snare can be like that of soft brush of sound that can be part of the finer touches to a drumbeat...
Analog? He didn't mention any specs, he just dropped an overlay on it hahaha
It’s not analog
It’s not analog
SUPER SUPER FUN LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
$800 is ridiculously high.
1:51 - that robo move!
$800? So like €900 - seems incredibly rich. More than a second hand vintage unit
Finally it's been revealed after all these years!!!!!!
WTF! 800Dollars :0 "Get out of here"
What a way to start my day! Super funny… : )
with midi out? holy cats... they really did improve it. This is fantastic... oh, $800? damn it.
