'Canes fan here! Okay not mad at all but I think there isn't alot of education of the Carolina Hurricanes and their jerseys. So I want to give my 3 worst and why and then explain these 3 jerseys. My 3 worst: 3. Original White (1997-2007) 2. New Storm White (2013-2017) 1. New Storm Red (2013-2017) I only have the original White at number 3 because I just like other jerseys better. I do really like it. For the New Storm White that came in 2013. I absolutely hated them going away from having the warning flags. But always liked this better than the Red one we will get to here shortly. But I liked this design more as it transitioned over with a new home jersey into Adidas. I have said if the 'Canes added the same faded warning pattern on the bottom striping then it might be my favorite 'Canes Jersey ever! Which I normally am not one that likes the white jerseys more than the dark. Usually dark jerseys I like better. So that tells you something. Okay.... to the WORST 'Canes jersey ever! The New Storm Red jersey. Holy cow! This just yeah.... no warning pattern and so bland. One of the worst jerseys I dare say in NHL history. Hate it. I have as a collector but yeah I don't wear it very much at all. Only have worn it once. Now the some education on the 'Canes logos and these jerseys. First the main logo. I don't get why there is so much hate for it. The logo is built around the international symbol for a hurricane, which is this 🌀. It is the white part at the center of the logo. And the black part in the middle may look like a puck and it is kinda supposed to but thats not what it is at all. That is th eye of the storm. It makes so much sense like I don't see all the hate. Next the original alternate logo and the current alternate logo. The old alternate logo is the single warning flag on a stick which yes technically is a mistake and is a tropical storm warning. With that said however there is something hidden-ish in the logo. The triangle behind this flag on a hockey stick pole is the outline of The Triangle Area of North Carolina (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) on a map. If you connect the city points on a map it would make that triangular shape, hence the name The Triangle Area. As for the current alternate logo. This now corrects the flag situation and makes it a proper hurricane warning. With that said there is also something hidden in this logo. Between the flags is the state outline of North Carolina. Now to these three jerseys. Your #3 I already explained and in my opinion is number 1 and the worst. Your #2. Now I know some people don't like wordmarks. And I know some people don't like nicknames on jerseys. However there is reason for this. First to help explain the meaning, if you are at all near Triangle Area most people will not call theme the Hurricanes in conversations. It is usually 'Canes. And so when Tom Dundon took over and hated our road jersey, which I'd somewhat understandable, he wanted to make a change. With that the idea was to bring something from The Loudest House in the NHL on the road with them as they played. So the 'Canes wordmark on the jersey was born. As a fan I love it because unlike other nickname jerseys the nickname actually has some really deep meaning. Most if not all the other ones do not have that. Now with your worst which I have no idea how, in my opinion. First the Grey shoulders is a Storm Grey color which represents the storm clouds above. Then the heathering pattern in the sleeves represents the tattered warning flags blowing in the harsh winds of a hurricane. The shoulder patches blending into the storm grey shoulders relates back to the original alternate jersey. So yeah there is some more information on that. Also I love the Stadium Series Jersey. In fact my favorite 'Canes jersey ever! And so much meaning put into it! So the numbers on our jersey are based on the NASCAR italic style as NC is the home to NASCAR. Within the Storm Grey stripes is our heathereing pattern. This can be found also in our red stripes on our black jerseys which signify the wind and point to the warning flags themselves. Here in the Storm Grey it both signifies the wind of the storm but also the pavement of a NASCAR track. The red and black of course the colors or the hurricane warning flags and also NC State. Also the Stadium Series logo has a ton of meaning. The logo shield it self is in the shape of acorn and there is an oak tree in the middle. Raleigh is the City of the Oaks. The 12 lights at the top of the signify thisbis the 12th Stadium Series game. The sliver within the logo points to the Canes 25th anniversary, the silver anniversary. At the bottom of the logo it is based on two things the banner signifies both the banners seen on the North Carolina state flag and also from the banner of warning flags from their 25th anniversary logo and patch. That is all if not most if it. Also our alternate logo the Hurricane Warning flags arre on the pants. The negative space in-between them is the outline of the state of NC. NC flag on other shoulder Stadium Series patch isn't on which is also on our black jersey.
@@aaronpreston13 I grew up in Pittsburgh hearing about the Pens and the Buccos. It's rare for someone to say penguins unless they're not sure you're a hockey fan. The team chant is Let's Go Pens. I would never want the Penguins to wear Pens. Ever. The Buccos is a better one, as I mentioned this and had it pointed out to me recently - few people outside of Pittsburgh know that the Pirates are the Buccos or Bucs. It's a great regionalism - still would never want it on a jersey. A nickname is a nickname, and should say a nickname. I don't want "Johnny" on an important document no matter how often I'm called it - and I feel the same way for jerseys. Too important for a nickname to be on it. Legal name. Like John Candy's Barfolomew. Should say Carolina on that jersey and make it perfect
@Ugly Thirds that's fair. I think if done right it's okay. But sometimes it's not done very well. I think our 'Canes jersey does it well and has the warning flags in it. With that said I could be such worse. I would rather have that than anything that resembles the 2013-2017 years.
who came up with the new Carolina uniforms and who said “this is better than the old ones”? I mean to me they are just hard to look at. The old ones looked great. Their new ones remind me of a cheesy movie team jersey
Just my take on this list, I would argue the case for 2013-2017 road white jersey to replace the black 'proper flag' jersey, then the bland boring home red one would jump straight up to number 1, as it is truly awful.
It's not a bad list, though we try to avoid putting home/road from the same set on the lists, even though those two are very different from each other...but John can rant about that proper flag jersey for a very very long time and he's never going to let that one slide.
Also thank you for doing this and doing this as requested. Awesome to see your takes!

Dude, is that NASCAR detail factual?
@Ugly Thirds the numbers and sleeve are yes. The pattern in the Grey has been said but isn't confirmed if that is apart of the NASCAR theme

I like the Stadium Series. But the road is beyond awful.
Hmm...I really liked the Golden Knights first Reverse Retro. And I like most secondary logos used as a primary.

I would still despise the road even if it had Carolina on it. I'm so over bland text.
At least it would make sense! Boring is better than ugly or dumb!
@@uglythirds Not to me. Boring is just as bad as ugly.
