No Perun. During the anthem, it's the bombs, the machine guns, and the crying from Vietnam that you are hearing. But thanks for a great reaction.

Saying that Jimi Hendrix is an overrated electric guitar player is like saying that the Wright Bros were overrated pilots.😮

  • @jeffmason2691

When it comes to the electric guitar there is Pre Jimi Hendrix and Post Jimi Hendrix, he changed to way people listen and played the guitar, no other guitar artist is even in the Building. One of the few guitarists ever who could play rhythm, lead, sing on top of it and do acrobatics on stage. 1. He was incredibly creative 2. His technique was superb 3. He was a great songwriter 4. He was a great singer 5. He was a great frontman. He didn’t need to play fast alternate picking runs or sweep picking or tapping tricks , he was above that. No one even comes close to him He invented a whole new style of playing. He by himself changed the way people thought about the electric guitar. He singlehandedly redefined the musical vocabulary of the electric guitar and changed music forever. When Jimi hit the scene people were hearing noises they had never heard from a guitar.

You can't rate Jimi. You'd have to be one of his peers, and he has none.

Facts!, the "improvisation" he plays after Purple Haze into Villanova Junction is the single greatest performance of a musician at one with their instrument, its so jawdroppingly beautiful, hes a walking miracle.

wanted to thank you for this venture into one of the greats. voodoo chile is a great track ... it is amazing that he released Axis Bold as Love and Are You Experienced in the same year. Two albums with so many amazing songs.

Just so you know that Voodoo Child performance was only almost half way done. Its edited to end right there. They removed the full set off of youtube some years ago because they repackaged and remastered his whole woodstock performance to release on blueray/dvd for purchase

Jimi was a paratrooper in the 101 st airborne. Vets understand. He may not have fought; but vets understand that everything seems distorted and different after service.

Jimi produced one of the greatest pieces of art of the 20th century; up there with Picasso, Dali etc. He brilliantly expressed the great paradox that is America - beautiful on the surface yet distorted and corrupt underneath. He painted the pain and the horror that is America's compulsion to war. That performance will forever live in history.

Jimi was ten blocks up the street from all other musical artists in the day. Even to this very day NOBODY HAS COME CLOSE TO HIS GENIUS. And how do I know? I was there in the day. I was at Regents Polytechnic when Jimi plugged into Jack Bruce's bass amplifier to play a rendition of Howlin' Wolfs Killing Floor. I was an attendee at many Experience gigs. Over rated? Jimi was the real McCoy. He was the most original and wonderful artist. His death was the greatest musical loss of an entire generation. Not to forget his wonderful support too of Mitch Mitchell (drums) and Noel Redding (bass). All in Heaven right now playing to the Angels.

Simple answer for one who grew up in those days. NO . he was not at all . His problems stemmed from inferior equipment at the time & of course Mr. Jeffries & all the so called fans that refused to let him play as he wanted which was not to break & destroy his gear though he did it anyway . Just think how incredible he would sound today had he survived . Na not underrated at all & we that play do have our bad nights as did Jimi but it was not always his fault. Other than maybe Clapton name me another guitarist that still has the influence & impact Jim had . It was pure starpower & one hell of a gift to play as he could. 🎸

This whole performance is a miracle in sound and guitar playing, its just incredible what he was able to ring out the neck of that Stratocaster, the greatest to ever do it, doubt it not!.

Zeppelin were thieves. Page was sloppy and a heroin addict, Bonham was a basic drummer at best, plant stole tons of lyrics from other songs and claimed he wrote them. John Paul Jones was okay though.

That's just how it sounds. The pa systems in the late 60's were very primitive, and the recording equipment used for Woodstock was not great.
