  • In chapter 6 of Jeremiah we see the siege against Jerusalem coming, and the fury of the Lord rising against them. Pastor David Guzik explains the prophets warnings in this message of his series on the book of Jeremiah.

It is so amazing how the people of God in Jeremiah's time sound exactly like the people of God in our times...in today's world. This sermon makes me tremble.

David...you are indeed speaking about the church and most of the world today....so Jeremiah did not only show a warning to Judah....but indeed to any time and place where God`s word is not regarded as Holy and followed like it should.......Therefore we are under Judgement more than ever...because I regard the abominations of our time even greater than those referred to in Jeremiah regarding Israel and Judah. Covid 19, the fires and upeheavels around the world whether they are natural or manipulated by humans.....I regard those as early warning signs that we need to repent and SOON. When "somebody" representing great wordly power says USA has the best economy ever and the foodlines are the biggest since the great depression....KNOW that you are deceived and that your leaders have not your best interest in their heart. Trust in no man. Trust in God only. The hour is late indeed.

Heavenly father, In complete agreement with this message I bind the word of jeremiah 6, jeremiah 6:7, jeremiah 6:14, 2 corinthians 6:14, matthew 6:24, 2 peter 3:9, john 5:6, luke 9:23, 1 john 4:19 for my life and the lives of my opponents binding to see the sickness and wounds for what they are in order to get healthy and take their own responsibility to get healthy again and to loosening one from every echo of violence and destruction coming from sick and wounded people who say peace where is no peace and who do not want to get better upon no return in my life, in the name and blood of Jesus Christ, amen and hallelujah!

Hi David, thanks- It was really helpful to understand the passage. I do have a question re God’s ‘necessary correction’ tho.
I understand that God’s judgment was brought upon Israelites because of idol worship (ch3) and oppression of the poor and weak (ch6v7). If they were to be judged indiscriminately (ch6v11) how is it justice for the poor in Jerusalem? Don’t they need redemption from God rather than additional oppression from Babylon? It could be correctional teaching moment for the rich and false prophets and priests. But I wonder how the already oppressed people could grapple this judgement?
    Hope it make sense……

I have been wrestling with the same question.
There are a couple of points I came up with (feel free to correct if you don’t think it’s not biblical-)
      1. The judgement never happens without a warning. God’s people get chance to avoid the judgement before it happens.
      2. Being poor and marginalised don’t make you innocent. God’s judgment is always just.
      3. In the big picture, it is His mercy to punish the whole community as they will get a chance to repent.
      4. God is not playing the active role of evil. Rather it’s more like withholding His protective power over His people.
Hope these points help you develop your thoughts…

Some of the broader questions you describe are paralleled or addressed in this message, within the scope of us trying to understand, justify, or defend God's judgements from a human perspective, or failing to:

So in your educated brain, do you think all the peoples of Judah were taken into exile? None heeded the warnings and left? Even Jeremiah was taken? I look forward to the rest of this series and hope these are answered.
