Russia: places to visit | Tula is the capital of Russian weapons

- In this episode, we are visiting Tula. Some call it the “city of craftsmen” because ever since Medieval times a lot of tools, weapons, and other goods were made right here.
You’ll definitely feel the productive spirit in Tula at some of its museums, especially the Tula State Museum of Weapons. It is impossible to not notice this unique helmet shaped building that houses the Arms Museum, which is one of the biggest of its kind in the world. If you are at all interested in melee Russian weapons, hunting and sport rifles and/or hardcore military tech then coming here would be a good idea. You will definitely get inspired. If you want to know more about the history of when those weapons were used in medieval Russia then check out the Tula Kremlin right smack in the middle of downtown.
It may seem like Tula is all about arms which are only partially true. Tula is also the home to the totally non-violent Pryanik cookies and inside the Tula Kremlin, there is a museum where they will show you how to make one of these Russian sweets with your own hands. And since they seem to last forever they are a great gift to take back home. Locals consider their Pryanik cookies to be the supreme Russian biscuit with a totally unique flavor that you can only get here in Tula.
Tula may have a unique taste but it also has a unique sound, the sound of accordions! Tula is still a leader in accordion production to this day. Not only can you see accordions but hear them and learn to play songs for yourself. Who knows maybe you can take one home to impress (and/or annoy) your friends and family around Christmas?

В Туле много старинных красивых храмов, есть красивые здания дореволюционной постройки. Но в целом Тула - это уродливый город. Это моё мнение.

To the Russians an "accordion" ("аккордеОн" [ah-kahrr-dee-OHn]) is a piano-key chromatic instrument. A button chromatic accordion we call a "bayAn" ("баЯн" [bah-yAHn]); a button diatonic one we call a "garmOn" ("гармОнь" [gahrr-mOHn'] (from "harmonica") - [rr] as a Spanish trilled R here; [n'] as a Spanish palatal Ñ in "España", "niño"). The museum itself is called "Grandpa Philimon's garmons". A garmon player is a garmonIst ("гармонИст" [gahrr-mah-nEEst]). In 90s our parents usually watched the program "Play, garmon!" on TV on Sundays. I myself learned to play balalayka [bah-lah-lAHy-kah] and accordion (the piano-key one!) in a musical school as a supplementary instrument, but some others learned to play bayan. So there exists the difference between these instruments in Russia. Tula is famous for its "Tula's garmon" [tOOl-skah-ya gahrr-mOHn'] - a diatonic button instrument.

The heavily fortified city held out, however, and Guderian's Second Panzer Army was stopped near Tula. The city secured the southern flank during the Battle of Moscow and the subsequent counter-offensive. Tula was awarded the title Hero City in 1976. Однако сильно укрепленный город устоял, и 2-я танковая армия Гудериана была остановлена под Тулой. Город обеспечил южный фланг во время битвы под Москвой и последующего контрнаступления. В 1976 году Туле было присвоено звание города-героя.

In Tula, the embankment near the Kremlin ranks 2nd in beauty in Russia. Central Park ranks 8th in Russia and 16th in Europe....there is also Yasnaya Polyana, Kulikovo Field, and much more.....

There is a samovar museum just outside the Kremlin and their gift shop has a selection of samovars for sale for 7,500r to 12,500r. P.S. I am in Tula right now.

@@Line_Horizon yes, the magazine stands sell souvenirs. I bought two tea cups that honor the airborne soldiers and two with the logo of the Russian Federation. They cost 190 rubles and 130 rubles each.

Живу в Тульской области, одни тюрьмы и лагеря в каждом городе, больницы заброшены, медицина убита, выжила только платная медицина. Шахты все закрыты. Работать негде, половина Тулы и области сидят по местным тюрьмам, а другая половина их охраняет.
