I have a religious day every year, where I must finish the HL franchise. Every year...once a year. I escape life for that day and immerse myself in Gordon's world...surreal
when i hear this music, i can only think how depressed Gordon (and Eli,Barney,Kleiner and everyone else) really is, because he is the one who pushed the car into the Anti-Mass Spectrometer and created the resonance cascade, after that he saw inumerous people beeing murdered in front of him by creatures from xen or by the army, he was jailed by gman for 20 years after he almost died many times saving the world from xen and when he comes back he's seen the whole world in a combine dictatorship and once again needs to save everyone who he cares about, but as a consequence of it gman took Alyx from Gordon and he needs to save someone who he cares about once more... Half-Life franchise will be my favorite one for ever and thats why i love it so much (sorry for my bad english,i'm from Brazil)
Man I never realized how tragic Gordon’s story is. No wonder he’s such a badass, he’s been through hell and back. Hopefully one day he’ll get a happy ending.
It's not really all Gordon'a fault. Dr. Breen was the black mesa's director and he ordered the anti thingy I forget the name to be pumped up a little bit. This caused the resonance cascade to happen.
When I listen to this and watch Half-Life 1 and 2 gameplay, I want to cry. I had so much awesome moments with this game, such beautiful feelings with this, it just can't be explained with words. When I look at what people make, remakes of these games, mods, community servers, I feel very proud of everyone for still keeping this series updated. We have only one task, do not forget this beautiful game. It was our childhood, our first moments with FPS games, beginnings of games such as Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead, Portal. We should tell our grandkids this heartwarming story of our lives, when we ventured with Gordon through Black Mesa and City 17. Thank you Valve...

Small note: from what I've found this song was actually a really good fan remix of Triage At Dawn, and wasn't made by Bailey (Ok, technically part of it was, but you know what I mean). From what I found this song was made by "DJ Dain", but is often credited to Bailey or even Viktor Antonov (who is not a composer). I know this may make the song feel a little different, maybe less emotional, but personally I think it makes it even more powerful, because rather than a sad song about what could have been, from developers who abandoned the project, I like to think of it as the fan's hope for what might someday happen. So often we see a series that goes on for too long, and bloats their story with hundreds of characters, and Half Life is a refreshing break from that, and I think we all hope to return to that story someday.
after all these years i finally got the half life games and completed them and I was expecting a lot since I’ve heard a lot of good things about half life and it was such a amazing game the ending surprised me in so many different way and after beating the game I realized people have been on a cliffhanger for over 12 years (well im off to 100% the games)

Gordon Freeman grew to be a legend amongst the human populus that was left after the combine invasion and was considered to be the one free man on earth.
I've always called this the theme of Gordon Freeman: It's this somber, quiet melody, but with a tinge of hope in it that tries to break throught the sorrow. Gordon hasn't known peace since the Residence Cascade at Black Mesa. He's been fighting off aliens invades before and after he was put into stasus, watching his species struggling for survival against their new rutheless rulers, and having his life be in the hands of a mysterious man in a suit who's goals are unknown. This theme represents all that emotions and tests that the Freeman has faced, and one day he can finally rest after his long journey, taking out the Combine and restoring Earth to it's former glory.
i was just 5 years old when I started playing half-life 2, I'm 17 years old now. listening to this song brings me back to the good old days when life ain't full of crap Thank you Gordon for giving me a wonderful childhood to look back
I have heard this song in this game years ago...I have finaly found out it's name :) Regardless, this is by far, the best video game ever made. Good job Valve, GabeN, and the composer of Half Life 2 ( and it's sequels) soundtrack.
This song evokes so many feelings in me, even though I detached myself from Half Life a long time ago. It feels like the introduction of a story, and at the same time a prelude to its unstoppable ending. A surprising victory with a crushing defeat following in the sideline. The possibility of an ocurrence and it's sad impossibility. It reminded me a bit of Taylor Hebert's Necesity with its indecisive tone that expresses the person's journey, not going anywhere in particular but always leaving a mystery, a remnant of a clue for us to go. In my opinion, this song would be perfect for the final chapter of the trilogy when it finally comes out: at the moment of truth, when Gordon finally ends his journey and defeats the Combine forces on Earth, or gives Humanity a chance of salvation with his tragic (but expectable) death, it starts playing in the background and then in every shot of the credits, echoing like a chorus of angels, not only representing the end of a character and its universe, but also the conclusion of a decades-long waiting.
What was taken from us, and all that we fight for. Continuing through seeming futility and desperation. If we lose the fight or emerge victorious, what matters in the end is that we fought.
We'll be back. One day. One day. We'll be back. Half-Life, TF2, Portal, Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike. One day, Valve will return and bring greatness to the gaming industry once again.
This is why Valve is my favorite game developer. Proper soundtracks, an amazing sound system ingame, proper gameplay that is fun and not repetitive, interesting characters, etc...

Maybe one day we can live through his eyes again and save what remains of humanity. If that day ever happens I'll be glad to be on the front lines knowing others are doing the same. when i hear this music, i can only think how depressed Gordon (and Eli,Barney,Kleiner and everyone else) really is, because he is the one who pushed the car into the Anti-Mass Spectrometer and created the resonance cascade, after that he saw inumerous people beeing murdered in front of him by creatures from xen or by the army, he was jailed by gman for 20 years after he almost died many times saving the world from xen and when he comes back he's seen the whole world in a combine dictatorship and once again needs to save everyone who he cares about, but as a consequence of it gman took Alyx from Gordon and he needs to save someone who he cares about once more...

@@xpiredration1387 actually, gordon didn't have any fault, but if I was him I would be very sad being the one who pushed the cart

Music Maker: Sir, how hard should the music be?
Gabe: Make it as hard as possible.
Half Life 2 is the best fps game ever made. No other fps games come close to this timeless masterpiece.

3:16 the distorted trumpets plays here…
I thought those were sirens, cool
