Electric expansion valve

It is used to meter liquid refrigerant into the evaporator. It is a type of metering device which is controlled electronically unlike a TXV (Thermostatic expansion valve) which senses line temp by way of a refrigerant filled bulb. Metering devices are used to create a pressure drop which is what creates the cooling effect. There are many different types of metering devices. For example, capillary tubes,TXV, EEV also some times called EXV, orifices etc etc just to name a few.
