  • Yamaha Tenere 700 Long Distance Set Up - part one.
    I have spent 4 months riding the new Yamaha Tenere 700 across the country while raising awareness and funds for MS. Here are a few of the accessories I added to make those long days and nights in the saddle even better. A few Farkles can make all the difference when using an adventure bike for long distance adventures.
    Thank you for following my adventure chasing the cure for MS.

    Long hauler here too. For 42 years I've covered North America, riding 13 to 16 hour days. It's all about the ride and I have a saying, "It's about the getting there more than the gotten there." Last year I was in upper British Columbia on the Alcan and decided to ride with the sun, as long as the sun was up I was going to ride. 17 and a half hours later I pulled into a motel parking lot in Whitehorse, the Yukon. This was on my 2016, 650 Suzuki Burgman scooter. Being 68, I'm trying to be careful during this pandemic so I can continue for many more years. Keep the rubber side down and be safe.

      You have all my respect my friend! I just know that you will be safe from this Chinese "bat flu" and will ride for decades more because you are such a tough SOB that St Peter will try to delay your eventual visit for as long as possible! Love from England, and ride it hard "until the f**king wheels fall off" mate! God bless!

      Yep. Use...or lose. I've downsized from owning a Yamaha MT-09 Tracer + an xt660z Ténéré. Traded both in for a brand new 2022 Ténéré 700. Not doing mega-miles like some on here but I ride regularly. I cover about 1000 km per month in winter. A bit more when it's sun-shiny.
      I'll be 75 very soon.

    Hey Paul what an inspiration you are & after watching your video I have decided to buy a T7, I was diagnosed 2004 with MS and was given a similar out come with Specialists. I have been okay with it till recently I was involved in at MVA which kicked off new symptoms that I’m blaming due to stress & having to close down my successful motorcycle transport business , which derived from being a stunt rider for MS. My plan is to do a similar Chanel doing adventure riding to raise awareness & show people living with MS you can still enjoy yourself. I’m in Australia so the bush has many camp spots calling my name. Thank you for setting me on my next journey

    • @longhaulpaul
      @longhaulpaul  3 года назад +1

      Rotopax are for accidentally running out of gas, or that one time you want to go far where there is no gas, but don't work for everyday long distance touring. With separate gerry cans or jugs, You still need to pull off the road, empty the jug into the main tank, then at each gas stop get the jugs out, refill the jugs, not practical or safe to do every tankful. Having a bigger tank or an aux tank plumbed into the bike means no stopping in between or filling loose containers every gas stop.

    If the Yamaha Star Venture was so nice, why did you switch back to the Yamaha Tenere?

    • @longhaulpaul
      @longhaulpaul  3 года назад +1

      The goal with the Venture was to put 100,000 miles on it to show the durability and reliability of Yamaha's air cooled V-Twin. Out of 42 street motorcycles I've owned, It was my first cruiser. I was impressed and it never failed me. The T7 is Yamaha's newest mid sized adventure bike and the goal here is to show how a inexpensive smaller displacement bike can be set up for long distance touring and adventures. I am also partial to adventure bikes that can easily be ridden anywhere. In a year or two when it has a hundred thousand or two hundred thousand miles on it, I'll probably be on something else from Yamaha that needs to be proven reliable as a hammer. My goal is a million miles raising money for MS and as a full time rider traveling across the country, everything I ride, wear and use must be reliable and durable as my life depends on it every single day.

    Good luck with the aluminum fuel tank behind your back. Suggest a fuel bladder or that Yamaha get real with the fuel capacity.

    • @longhaulpaul
      @longhaulpaul  3 года назад

      Over a million miles with aux tanks just like this one. A ziplock baggie with fuel in it serves me no purpose. The tank is plumbed and grounded to the chassis. I don't stop to use it, it flows directly into my main tank. Rode 1200 miles yesterday and 1000 today and 1100 tomorrow. Having an aux tank saves me over an hour every day I ride. A bladder is useless, as I would still need to stop and add it into the main tank 5-6 times every day.

    Your past Star Venture looks much more the touring and long distance, than this beast! But oh well....

      You would be surprised at what I've been able to ride for 1500 mile days! The Tenere is now set up for long distance, custom seat, taller windscreen and an aux fuel system. I'm able to ride it comfortably for 18 hours day after day without a break. The Venture was comfortable right out of the box. The goal is to show riders they do not need a $30K bike to ride across the country.

      @Joe Blow you’d be surprised at how comfortable Adventure bikes are. My travels don’t compare to Paul’s, but I’ve put some long days in on my bike.

    Raising money for MS? MS sucks! I'd never give money for MS!
    I like what Yamaha has done with the Tenere 700. I wish they'd make a Tenere in 300 to 400cc for guys like me who seldom ride on interstate highways. I like secondary roads and dirt roads. Kudos to Yamaha for donating a T700 for your MS ride. That's some great marketing, Yamaha. Thank you.
    Why do manufacturers put such small fuel tanks on bikes? The T700 has one of the larger tanks in the intermediate class adventure bikes. As much as I hate stopping frequently to put 2 gallons into a commuter bike, it's very dumb to have a 3 gallon tank on an adventure bike, as if strapping on a Ropax fuel bottle should be part of the adventure motorcycling experience. We need 5+ gallon tanks on small adventure bikes and 8+ gallon tanks on larger adventure bikes.

      About five years ago, I was riding in Louisiana heading to an event when a car pulled up to me at a light. Rolled down the window and in a stout southern accent, "Whyya razn mona fur mizipi?"
      I must have asked "WHAT?" Three times, Not realizing he read my graphics on my saddlebags and couldn't understand why anyone was raising money for Mississippi!

      If you were riding for ALS, Louisiana guy would probably ask why you were raising money for Alabamans?

    • @longhaulpaul
      @longhaulpaul  3 года назад +4

      That's a great question. My ABOUT me section or my website Longhaulpaul.com can answer in detail. I Just finished 105,000 miles on the brand new Yamaha Star Venture in 18 months. Before that, I put 300,000 miles in 5 years on Super Teneres. Before that 800,000 miles on 35 motorcycles including BMWs, Hondas, Ducatis, Moto Guzzis, any motorcycle can be set up for long distance comfort and the Tenere 700 is a great inexpensive platform with endless possibilities. Many people believe you need a $25,000 touring bike to take a cross state or cross country trip on a motorcycle, and it is absolutely untrue!
      Reliability, fun, and set up, the T7 is as great a tourer as anything else out there.
