Thank you for your thoughts on this translation of the Bible. I was in my teens when I bought the Jerusalem Bible, as I wanted one with the Deutro-canonical books, and it was very nicely presented. It also helped as it is used at Mass, so I was familiar with the readings. I know there are other Bible translations which scholars rate more highly for accuracy, but I suppose it's whatever works for you in your daily devotions that is the important thing. Thanks again, and Godbless, Simon 🙏🏻
The Jerusalem Bible (1966) has been my reading, study and pulpit bible since 1969. I have several retired JB’s. I am not in favor of the NJV or revisions. Yahweh must be retained. I left RCC because of its liberal theology and corruption.
Thanks for your review of this Bible, which I held in my hands in a book shop many years ago. I noticed that it's rendering of John 19:30 is "It has been accomplished" which follows Martin Luther's translation "Es ist vollbracht", and which is the common rendering in Germanic language translations. If you have grown up in that tradition "It is finished" becomes a bit bland. Having said that KJV is my Bible translation of choice.
