I feel you brother, for those of us who appreciate colour? This dial and bezel combo is perfect...PERFECT. I'd have one in a heartbeat if these cases sat a bit more comfortably on me. Terrific video as always Pete 🥃
It’s probably on the outer extremities of comfort for my wrist size..but I love it’s bold presence on the wrist It’s a statement piece in the collection Hope you’re having warmer weather than us here in Australia 😊🥃
Thank you for articulating so well why heavy watches on bracelets need on-the-fly microadjustment. As you point out, wearing light watches loose is fine. But heavy watches need a tighter fit, so they should ideally allow tool-free adjustment.
Pete, she is a true beauty! I’ve owned two Spring Drive high end Seiko Divers but have yet to behold a Grand Seiko but absolutely plan to. Enjoy that masterpiece with pleasure!
Everyone says my Grand Seiko looks good on the bracelet, but I always wear it with hirsch performance straps. It wears super comfortable and I like the way it looks and feels. Never sell of trade that gift watch Peter, that green looks spectacular!
Lovely piece. I was in Japan recently and I picked up GS SBGM221 as a memento for a memorable trip, it's also a GMT but regular auto with a thermally blued GMT hand. Chose that one because I saw it on many wrists around Tokyo. Love GS, stunning build quality and tech, ppl should check out Seiko Museum.
This has been my dream watch for the past year, I am trying to save up for it still. I try to watch anything I can on this beauty. I loved the video, I will subscribe for sure, loved your take and structure!
I’m absolutely salivating at those macro shots and the idea of that dial and colour configuration in a 62GS case. Please Grand Seiko! I’m planning on buying the SBGA443 (Shunbun) this year but i’d take something in this green in a heartbeat. Gorgeous.
Great review, Peter, as always, so glad you take time with your watches before a full review. Grand Seiko is indeed releasing a micro adjust clasp/bracelet and the Seiko president himself has been quoted as saying it's on the way. I owned a SBGE277 and loved it but once they release the micro adjust bracelet with this style watch, I will most definitely be buying one (depending on the color way, I suppose). (Also, my one dislike was adjusting the bracelet size with their pin system, it's not the easiest.)
My apologies, I just had to add, the power reserve is in my opinion one of the fine subtle details that looks incredible and oh so very useful and or highly functional feature that has become extremely rare to see these days. Man I love your GS! I do not blame you for deeming it a keeper!
The more GS watches I see, the more I like them. I have a Seiko Astron which is a beautifully finished watch, and also wears well despite an even bigger size. Like you I am also a fan of the power reserve indicator.
I understand why some people dislike power reserves on dials but I feel Grand Seiko generally get it right. They look great and I can imagine it's fun to see it fill up as you wear the watch.
Glad to finally see your review on it. I had the blue version on wrist last year, but i think the green one is the best looking! Congratulations on recieving a wonderful gift like that. Grand seiko has some beautiful watches for sure! After seeing the sbgm221 a couple years ago i still cant get it out of my head. Cheers
I went a fancy watch boutique with many of the Uber fancy brands and frankly, it was the Grand Seikos that I was most taken with. The finishing and light reflectance was a tier above anything I saw.
Wondeful video and review! i absolutely love the look of this watch- the colors, the dial the bezel everything just looks stunning! it's a real shame how big it is though, 44mm is a tad too large for me and the thickness definitely was the sad nail in the coffin for me on this one. I'd love it if they did this watch in a smaller diameter and was thinner like you had mentioned, would be a no brainer for me!
Great review, mate. Love the black version of this watch and since the GMT hand on that version is red, I avoid your "hate." I also agree with the toolless micro adjust and the water resistance. If the watch is going to be that thick, I would like 10 bar and a clear caseback. But if it's going to be a solid caseback, I'd like a thinner watch and 10 bar.
Superb review. I have a similar model and you were spot on with every point - positive and negative. The weight is giving me second thoughts. Will hang on to it for a few more months but it may go on the chopping block.
7:45 to 8:18 Thank you for finally bringing up this important fact. I am having the same experience on my Seiko Prospex Panda chrono, and the clasp has only 2 micro adjustments 😣
I need or surround myself with better people. ie. people who gift Grand Seiko GMT’s! 🤔 Ha! Thanks for the great review as always! GS has been my grail for a long time. Currently it’s the SBGE253.
Absolutely lovely watch. To me GS Springdrive represents the peak of engineering for watch movements. This, coupled with an incredible level of quality, results in some of the very best watches made. Period. With some rare exceptions, I would take a GS over most Rolex pieces. And I hope I can add one to my collection someday.
This is why I watch reviews; I get to learn what I miss when I'm looking by myself. In this case, were I in this market, I would likely miss the GMT hand until weeks later, when it would annoy me no end. Fortunately, I swim in much shallower waters.
Thanks Pete, not a watch for me but finally we talk 44mm + watches. Yes, I agree it does look like Japanese engineers took their time to put this together, no pun intended. Fantastic presentation as usual.
It's great to see you're enjoying the watch. I wholeheartedly agree with the negative points you've made about the watch. GS need to work on some of their sports watches.
Power reserve on the front is a necessity IMO for spring drives that only have a 72 HR reserve, the newer versions. That have a longer reserve makes sense to have it on the back .
Thank you for another great review. My hate is lack of on the fly bracelet adjustment, instead of the GMT hand. True, GS should have colour coded the GMT hand.
You have identified exactly (to a tee) the reasons I ended up trading my SBGJ 237. Too tall, no microadjust and 3 silver hands made it difficult to distinguish the GMT from the minute hand at a glance. I need to be able to read the time without appearing to be looking at my watch and I couldn't do that with this watch. I actually had quality issues too which is very un-GS-like. It was shipped with no lume on the 3 o'clock pip and the crown fell off when I adjusted the GMT 6 months into ownership.
I mean, beside the GMT hand, while at it, GS could also blend the date window with the same/closer color to the dial instead of using white date window. The best example would be MM200 GMT. The date window color is more integrated to the whole design. I think.
Hi Peter, once again congratulations from my side to an amazing watch! 🍻 Actually, everything you said I can fully agree with you! 👍 I bought this watch couple month ago, in April for myself and I'm 100% satiesfied with the purchase! I decide to get the SBGE277 Model which comes in Black and WHITE. I liked the green-white Model also, however one of the reasons was the GMT hand which comes in Red in the Black-White Edition, so it's easier to seperate this hand to the Minute Hand. I know this is maybe one of the things you don't like at all at your Model, however the Green-white one has this great, I would say, almost peacefull look. Yeah, maybe GS could make the GMT Hand in Green, however in this case with the Green dial.....I would say GS wanted to keep the Design of your model as calm and peacefull as possible! I wish you a lot of fun with the GS! 🍻 Of course, THANK YOU so much for this great Video again!
A huge congrats on your purchase Lukas, thats a beauty indeed. I hear what you're saying about the green and peaceful feel and you're absolutely right. Ive just been waiting by the phone all day for GS to call me and say send the watch in and we will make it the way you want it...😂😂😂😂 Never gonna happen though 😂 Cheers brother, enjoy the SBGE277 🔥
Beautiful watch Peter! I saw it on one of your other videos. Generally GS wouldn’t be on my radar, but this one could be. Easy fix for that GMT hand mate. Do what I did with a Casio G Shock. I pulled it apart & used my daughter’s bright red gloss nail polish to highlight the hour hand!🤩🤣🤭
I’ve thought about doing that Andrew… I know Spring Drive works on extremely fine tolerances so I didn’t want to attempt it myself just in case I contaminate the movement with dust or debris But thinking about it nonetheless 😋
@@PeterKotsa Personally I think it’s well within your abilities. Your attention to detail, especially being a photographer Peter, should qualify you to attempt such. Colour matched would look stunning!🥰👍🏻😎
I agree with your assessment. I own a snowflake but have tried on nearly the entire catalog at the AD and really don’t like how thick/ big GS tool watches are. That being said, I feel my snowflake is nearly perfect with the new bracelet 2024 and a one watch collection. There is no comparison between my GS and the Rolexes I own, GS is a step up on build quality and overall horology than mid tier rolex.
Thought the hate was on the date at 4 and sideways... It would drive me crazy, therefore I never pulled the trigger on that GS GMT ... I went with a Zulu time instead. That green / white is the nicest from the series ❤
There is one other design flaw on the watch... the position of the spring bar holes is at the very bottom of the lugs. Fine when you're wearing it on the bracelet. However, since GS refuses to implement a well designed on-the-fly micro-adjust, people like myself prefer the watch on a strap. I can live with the 21mm lug spacing, since I have several good custom strap makers. What caused me to sell 2 prior GS from this series was how absurd they look on a strap. It looks like the watch is floating on top of the wrist with only the slightest of contact with the strap. You end up seeing the whole side of the case between the lugs and it takes a 4-figure watch down to a 3-figure appearance. I even spoke to a watch maker about drilling a second set of spring bar holes to accommodate a more sensible strap placement. He thought it might be doable, but I figured the margin of error was high enough that it was wise to find a new home for the watches.
Great review, off sized bracelet is wrong, however no on the fly adjustments is a big miss. I get that on $300 Zelos which for me offers the best bang for the buck. I always wanted a GS Snowflake but I can’t justify the cost.
If that GMT hand bothers you so much, replace it with the Hi Beat version of this watch-- SBGJ239-- it has a red GMT hand. "GMT" is also in red. But I think it spoils the wintergreen aesthetic of this watch. Slightly more expensive as all Hi Beats are compared to their Spring Drive counterparts.
@@garyboyle695 nope, their watches are overpriced like a mf too. Also every mofo with a paycheck and a gangster complex has one. If and when I decide to drop upwards of 5k I would be thinking Parmigiani F, Piaget or Glasshutte O. To name a few. If I was rich De Bethune is my grail watch, just love their designs. Maybe in another life though.
Although I'm a big GS fan (I own three), I was originally repulsed by this watch. I found the color split on the bezel to be awkward, and of course the invisible GMT hand was a no-go. But I didn't know about the additional time markers in the rehaut. That's so cool. I suppose I could send the watch out to get the GMT hand relumed in a contrasting color.... or is that sacrilegious?
I got this exact watch 4 months ago. I disagree with a few things on your video GMT hand is not confusing to me. I like white clean look on the GMT hand. The only thing that annoys me on this watch is that the date window doesn't have a canvas. It looks naked and unfinished without Zaratsu canvas around the date window I agree with everything else you said. It's the best watch in my collection, even better than some of the watches that cost me 5 times more
Thats a fair call👍 On a positive side, I did eventually get used to the white GMT hand...but it took me tow or three months at least. But for me, if I could get it changed by GS I probably would 😊 Thanks for sharing Karl, cheers
Dornbluth has been getting copious amounts of wrist time...its on my wrist atm as I type 😊 I find I wear the GS more during summer and travel. But love them both..I am looking ofr a thick rubber green strap for the GS, something substantial so it counterbalances the watch head on the wrist Best of luck with the decision on the Green peacock 👍
Hey Pete one question for you, may be for future video👋 I just wonder when you say gifted watch to you, did you get to pick it and the person just paid for it or it was full on surprise you had no idea what watch you getting. The question is, is it a bad idea to gift someone else expensive watch? I know myself it’ll be nearly impossible someone to guess what I might like and wear OFFTEN. Cheers
The crown at 4 o'clock looks soooo much better than at the ~3,7 o'clock position at which Seiko's been placing them for cheapness' sake since the eighties. All for the sake of having to print only one type of datewheel... The 1970 Willard had the crown at the 'real 4'. The reissue at 3,7. Though I don't mind it on newer Turtles, the Willard reissue IMO looks horriblee because of it.
I don’t think the color of the GMT is as big of a design mistake as the arrow which seems painfully out of context for the angles on the rest of the dial and handset
Grand Seiko have incredible movements and dials. However their case designs are based only on 3 or 4 very similar options which makes them somewhat boring. For the price they charge the bracelets should be a lot better.
First GS, Elegance line(Omiwatari), 44GS, 62GS, Lion's mane(Godzilla), Heritage line(Snowflake). I can easily name six case designs without google. Sure there are more.
GS polishing is on another level, and the spring drive movement is arguably second to none. The second hand is mesmerizing. It's like butter. I'm considering pulling the trigger on an entry level spring drive GS (SBGA375). I prefer dial textures obviously, but those watches are quite expensive, and the power reserve looks unattractive on lighter dials. No doubt their watches wear big. Same with Seiko Presages, including the Craftmanship Series, which are often quite premium for the price.
(8 months later, new vid) "How i modded my GMT hand... Testing five different spray paints!" 😂😂😂😂 Although this color combo is not for me (not just the "hand"😋), i can clearly understand you're in love, for all the obvious - and not - reasons. Enjoy it mate, along all the things you love. Cheers. PS Damn hot here, funny enough more at your places than down here. Traffic lights are melting! Go figure!
great presentation. thanks. but for the life of me, i don't get why anyone would like or want a power reserve on a dial, especially a dial that strives for aesthetic beauty and elegance of design. it's just an unnecessary feature that messes with the overall balance of a dial. ok, i said, it and of course, imo.
Absolutely, I hear that a lot For me as a geek I enjoy seeing the indicator as it increases throughout the day There you go, I said it too ..Im a GEEK 😊😂 Thanks for sharing btw 👍
I get tired of hearing ohh no on the fly adjustments… deal breaker 🤨, as you say back in the day it was very rare, well back in the day was a couple of years ago. If you’re confusing the gmt hand you may need glasses, I feel that a coloured hand would cheapen the look.
I feel you brother, for those of us who appreciate colour? This dial and bezel combo is perfect...PERFECT. I'd have one in a heartbeat if these cases sat a bit more comfortably on me. Terrific video as always Pete 🥃

Lovely watch, Waiting for someone to gift me one 🤣
😊👍
How's your dornbluth doing competing with this watch for wrist time? I'm close to jumping the gun on the green peacock GS
Dornbluth has been getting copious amounts of wrist time...its on my wrist atm as I type 😊
I find I wear the GS more during summer and travel. But love them both..I am looking ofr a thick rubber green strap for the GS, something substantial so it counterbalances the watch head on the wrist
Best of luck with the decision on the Green peacock 👍
Mate! The only thing I can hate about this watch is the fact it isn't mine!! 😂😂😂
Hahaha...thats a fair call Alex 😂
Hey Pete one question for you, may be for future video👋 I just wonder when you say gifted watch to you, did you get to pick it and the person just paid for it or it was full on surprise you had no idea what watch you getting. The question is, is it a bad idea to gift someone else expensive watch? I know myself it’ll be nearly impossible someone to guess what I might like and wear OFFTEN. Cheers
Good question...
Yeah this was gifted to me as is, new in box. It was a surprise and I had no idea
yup what a gyp, 72 click gmt bezel?!
inexplicable slow downs on that spring drive?
got rid of mine and went back to swiss mechanials.
I really love the look of these watches, but they are just too darn big.
Slanted date window is a no-go for me, maybe it it's matched to the dial colour, but otherwise, of with its head so to say.
Works great at the 4 👍
there is always one thing that stresses me out on all watches...
it's the price tag, what else. 😇😂
I don’t think the color of the GMT is as big of a design mistake as the arrow which seems painfully out of context for the angles on the rest of the dial and handset
Grand Seiko mods soon to be a thing.. ? 🤔
I’m starting it off with this GMT hand 😂
A good friend of mine has the blue & white colorway; I find the clasp to be too curved for my flat 7.5” wrist. 🤷♂️ Beautiful watch otherwise.
Sticker still on after 8 months?
No that was footage from the first week I got it. That sticker is long gone 😂😊
this watch is handsome but the size n lug-to-lug are insane for my small wrist….😢
It’s a gorgeous model, but they need to make smaller sports watches.
Totally agree..👍
As a diver, you do not want a polished device on your wrist.
Barracuda has entered the chat
Damn, didn't realize this was a 44mm
It’s a hefty piece for sure 💪😂
Is there are high end watchmaker somewhere that could colour that GMT hand? - Sharpies not allowed!
😋😂👍
Yes.. I can’t say nothing about the watch because simply it’s perfect 👌
Pikey bling gear 😉 thanks
😊
Grand Seiko have incredible movements and dials. However their case designs are based only on 3 or 4 very similar options which makes them somewhat boring. For the price they charge the bracelets should be a lot better.
First GS, Elegance line(Omiwatari), 44GS, 62GS, Lion's mane(Godzilla), Heritage line(Snowflake). I can easily name six case designs without google. Sure there are more.
And here I thought it was the unbalanced white/green bezel that doesn't really match the also unbalanced white/green 24 hour ring inside the watch.
For me, the 4 o'clock date is not a like.
(8 months later, new vid) "How i modded my GMT hand... Testing five different spray paints!" 😂😂😂😂
Although this color combo is not for me (not just the "hand"😋), i can clearly understand you're in love, for all the obvious - and not - reasons. Enjoy it mate, along all the things you love. Cheers.
PS Damn hot here, funny enough more at your places than down here. Traffic lights are melting! Go figure!
I cant tell you how many times I thought about that paint idea brother....😂😂
Hope your getting some beach time to cool off, stay well Stavros 👍
I wish someone gifted me a $6k+ watch I usually have to buy my own.
I hear you..this came totally out of left field and completely unexpected (and undeserved in my opinion)
great presentation. thanks. but for the life of me, i don't get why anyone would like or want a power reserve on a dial, especially a dial that strives for aesthetic beauty and elegance of design. it's just an unnecessary feature that messes with the overall balance of a dial. ok, i said, it and of course, imo.
Absolutely, I hear that a lot
For me as a geek I enjoy seeing the indicator as it increases throughout the day
There you go, I said it too ..Im a GEEK 😊😂
Thanks for sharing btw 👍
I just have one problem with this watch…
And that is , that is not 40mm or smaller.
+1 second per week??
My SBBN007 Tuna with the 7C46 quartz has lost only 1/4 of a second in over 1 month! I’ll stick with the Tuna.
I get tired of hearing ohh no on the fly adjustments… deal breaker 🤨, as you say back in the day it was very rare, well back in the day was a couple of years ago. If you’re confusing the gmt hand you may need glasses, I feel that a coloured hand would cheapen the look.
