I love how this production did what some bigger companies can't or won't: stayed away from the stereotypical exoticised choreography traditionally given to Tea and Coffee.
I really enjoyed this version with the younger dancers. There are versions when Clara is portrayed by dancers who are really too old for that role. I especially enjoyed Clara and the Prince who have so much confidence and stage presence. No, these are not seasoned dancers but they are learning and seem to enjoy this production. Bravo to them. Thank you.
Have you seen Vaganova academy production? They use even younger Clara (in Russian production it's "little Masha"). I like this one too. They (Vaganova) use younger students in the dance of the mirlitons as well.

She is the best CLARA I have ever seen in all of the many NUTCRACKER productions I have watched. Her face, her smile, her excitement as well as her dancing makes her the BEST.
I’m blown away with the gorgeous design of this show! He lighting?! The sets?! The costumes?! Not to mention the true heart and joy that the performers are showing us! This might be my favorite production to date! I’m so thankful this was recorded❤️
I often get anxious when watching youth productions of a traditional ballet piece as they have not measured up to the high quality of a demands required to be considered worthy of the music. HOWEVER, this ballet was amazing! The young professionals across the board, with special mention of the primaries, breath taking both with such promise for their respective futures! The creative additions were noted but I will say they added to the story line, along with the set design that the smaller stage didn't detract from the great performances ( a few light problems but ...) Well done to all and compliments to the primary dancers! Fantastic and thank you!
I loved when the older boy got socks and threw them on the floor. We’ve all had presents like that , very disappointing, especially when we’re not considered children any more. Little details like this bring the story to life.
I have never seen a male ballet dancer wear boots during a performance before so the Prince wearing boots and being able to dance like that is amazing.
Very expressive Clara, graceful and lovely. I loved this refreshing choreography, beautifully danced and well adapted to the students, with a lot of mime which many ballet companies forego these days. Ballet is a language that includes mime and helps tell the story. I particularly liked there was none of the acrobatics many choreographers feels they have to include in classical ballet. Lovely décor too. The costumes were imaginative and a feast for the eyes. The children were full of charm. The soloists wonderful. The whole performance captured the innocence of a childhood in an era long gone. Congratulations!
This has probably been the prettiest, most realistic, most creative, most adorable Nutcracker Ballet Ive ever seen! EVERYTHING was brilliant! Costumes, stage design, set design, lighting... The acting was remarkable, so believable and relatable. Delightful cozy atmosphere in Act 1, felt all warm and fuzzy. Act 2 was insanely amusing! Cant help smiling and giggling. Waiting for the next dance was really like expecting another magic from the magician's hat! All the kids looked like they were genuinely happy and I found myself rooting and cheering for them especially the Pas de Deux. Every time the curtain closed, it gave me goosebumps ALL over my body! All the leads.. absolutely gorgeous faces and the character roles looked like movie superstars! But my favorite of all was that little Russian marshmallow fellow.. 🙂 I think this is one of the best Nutcracker Ballets created. Kudos to the teachers of this school. The choreographers must be the best that there is now.. Lovely beautiful GENIUS brains. Watching this made me so happy. Thanks for the experience. What a treat! :)
totally agree - the most charming delightful interpretation ever. You can see they really enjoyed it too. Agree with you comment about the leads they are so stunning its quite breath taking. Everyone involved in this production should be extremely happy with this brilliant production - its made my Christmas
Easily my favorite interpretation of this story. It may not be the most technically perfect as per Bolshoi.. but it has what none of the others have in abundance.. something called CHARM. Beautifully orchestrated too the charm emanates from all the principle characters and especially in the part of (Marie) Clara.
I was surprised to see a school performing this ballet so incredibly professional! It was really joy to watch. Especially Clara and the young gentleman-nutcracker-prince are amazing! Lycka till eleverna för framtiden och god jul till alla!
the costumes are so cool and wonderful! I’ve been dancing in the nutcracker for 8 years. I got to be Clara before the pandemic and this year I’m the snow queen.
This is probably my favorite production of The Nutcracker. All the dancers are amazing, and Clara and the Prince have such realistic, charming chemistry!
I love how much joy everyone showed in their performances, as well as the different types of candies portrayed and Drosselmeyer (so much glitter). I hope everyone in this continues to find much success and happiness in dancing.
As a traditionalist I get anxious when I see youth productions as they have not measured up to any standards: cute but. HOWEVER, this production is outstanding in all of the senses of skill, creativity, set, outfit. The primary dancers are breath taking with great promises for their respective futures! The little changes to the traditional setting are an asset to the music and story line. Powerful, amazing, beautiful, a true masterpiece. Thank you!
What a wonderful and very beautiful performance. There all great dancers in there own special way and that’s what makes this nutcracker so good and graceful. The show even brings a tear of joy to my eye and my heart. Clara did a great job and same with the prince/nutcracker, my favorite art of the show was everything!!!
All credit to those too who have brought these young talents to this level and supported them to present us with this superb Christmas treat - EXCEPT the hole in the a stage obsessive. Watching these young talents a metre from career destroying injury for the sake of a pathetic bit of theatre gave me the heebie jeebies. Nail it up,
I am smiling ear to ear watching this, I could have been there, the stage is soo close. Am so smiling from within, my heart is warm and full of joy after watching this. Such charm and witt, with enormous gusto and joye de vivre, CHARM is oouzzing! Yes, Bolshoi or TRB is technically better, this warms me all the way through! I love how Clara and her Prince are so interactive with each-other, not about technical show off, or perfection in pas de deux, they have true connection! Charm and love 💕
Not exactly a classic, but a joyful, exciting, and at times moving presentation. The Swedish Ballet School should be proud of this presentation which has some delightful dancing and outstanding performances.
This was the very best performance I have seen, Many kids and young people makes it seems so real that a young girl would dream this! Better by far from others that don’t seem to connect with kids or teenagers! All were so cute and costumes were wonderful! Great job everyone!
AB FAB reimagining!.......Rainy cold night in Montreal (Canada ) ...not feeling XMASSY so I randomly selected to watch this version on my laptop...So happy I did ....Glad Dosselmeyer was a young handsome dude ...AND they didn't mess with the Russian dance (played it straight forward,,,,,)......I guess I'll dream of sugar plum faeries ..OR Dosselmeyer haha (I believe he Sabastion did the Choreography........).
A gorgeous production! The costumes and sets were wonderful, and some of the young dancers hit their marks better than I've seen professional dancers do. Bravo!
This is wonderful! I especially love the story details like the socks or the child constantly interrupting the story. Really feels like watching a family christmas celebration.
I've never watched a ballet all the way through before, but thus is pure magic from the very beginning. I will surely watch more, any reccommendations gratefully received.
Very good for a school production of the Swedish National Ballet, very accomplished dancers, that being said, they can certainly raise the bar more. They can do it.
Muy buenas tardes, lo estoy viendo hoy Navidad 2021, es fantastica la propuesta, diferente de presentar el cascanueces, simplemente MARAVILLOSA PRESENTACION. Saludos y muchas felicidades desde México.
One of the most accurate representations of the original tale by Hoffmann ever! Not perfect, of course, a bit messy, but still very close, showing some aspects you'll never see in other versions. Some meaningful story at last, not another pointless 'christmas show'. And it's likely about as far as one can go exploring the (rather dark) meanings of the tale without scaring the public off. Thanks for sharing it! Oh, and I really like how subtle some details are! They are there, and you can easily see them, if you know what to look for, yet they are so inconspicuous that most people won't even notice.
What a stunning performance! And even more impressive knowing that these are students - still learning. They are magnificent. The pas de deux between both sets of Clara/Nutcracker are something beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed it and bookmarked it to enjoy again.
That's what I was thinking, that this version must be taking place around 1900 or so, based on the costumes? Bc the little girls have puffed sleeves and the women have those skirts/shirtwaists with the high necks that have a definite Green Gables vibe. It seems like a lot of versions set the action in the late 1700s powdered wig days, so I like the ones that change the era.
I thought the lift at 20:19 was so beautiful! Probably could get such height because of the dancer height contrast, plus the fact she is a younger/smaller dancer. She just soared!
This is a particularly good performance. Drosselmeyer is great, Clara is lovely, and I like all the added details like Drosselmeyer's workshop, the gingerbread castle, the mice locking Clara in a cage, and the giant sweet props. Though, it's rather amusing that the Nutcracker is just a store-bought Nutcracker Christmas decoration. Clara and the Nutcracker Prince are about the right sort of age here too, they shouldn't be adults but they shouldn't be small children either. Around 12/13 is right. I'm also pleased they included the Sugar Plum fairy, even if her main dance still went to an aged-up Clara. The last version I saw cut her out altogether to give her dance to Marie (as her name was in that version). I wasn't such a fan of replacing the Spanish Chocolate dance with a Liquorice Allsort dance and the Arabian Coffee dance with whatever the guys in black were supposed to be doing. It's also good to see the bottoms of everybody's shoes are pretty clean. I've seen several ballets on here now where everyone's dancing in filthy black shoes which is distracting and seems unprofessional, surely new shoes must be available.
I’m so glad I came across this version of Nutcracker to watch this Christmas Eve!! Others have commented on the many fine points of this production/performance, and I agree! I want to particularly praise the unique concept of this Nutcracker and how well carried out it is through the sets, props, costumes, characterizations, and original choreography. Drosselmeyer is a wonderfully clever interpretation, and the Gingerbread House is a brilliant re-vision of the Land of Sweets. A huge tip-of-the-hat to Sebastian Michanek for creating this delightful Christmas confection! 💚
Una versión muy linda, que no requirió ni de los grandes escenarios, ni de bailarines consagrados. Unicamente esta diseñada e interpretada con una gran alegría y cariño.
What a creative and impressive interpretation! the storytelling by the dancers is superb and the costumes & sets are excellent. Grand performance all around!

tend to agree it was a tad unnecessary and fraught with risk. Besides that the preformance was so refreshing and fabulously creative and charming
I would have really appreciated to see all the dancers receiving the applause at the end!
if you wait the end titles you get few secs of full cast on the scene while the applause is still going ;-)
