As a classically trained "Pankeyist" I've recently acquired a scooped open back and started fooling around with Clawhammer. I think A LOT of stuff you teach translates quite well! Thanks for this, and everything you do Saint Jimbo.
You are like an angel sent from God to teach us all the banjo. Thank you for making these videos. Clawhammer is so much fun to play and you teach it so well.
@@JimPankey I'll have to dig deeper into it then. The up-down motion and the string brush on the second step of the bumditty must have given me the wrong idea.
I love the way you teach Jim, I first found you on RUclips teaching Squirrel Hunters, fab tune! I've recorded my version on my channel a while back! I'm looking forward to getting my teeth into this great version! Thanks for all you do! Regards Steve
@@JimPankey Been playing the heck out of this since I've learned it. So pretty and fun to play it this way too..Just hoping you have some others in mind in a different key.
I ve just started learning different banjo tuning, and your piece is just amazing. In one of your lives you said that banjo tuning is just a part of playing and you can always tune your banjo different. To feel it different. The double C-tuning is sounding so different for me. It is like deeper or not so ...crispy as the standart one? I dont know, but i just want to thank you, Jim about letting me now this amazing sound of yours. Wish you all the best and amazing holidays! Thank you!
I just tuned to double c last night and having fun. More double C would be interesting. I’m definitely a front porch soloist. Thanks. Cluck Old Hen is a nice tune.
Hi Jim. Love this video. As I enjoy playing and singing along to songs (in private lol) I really like clawhammer style. The strumming down type motion is ok, but I am really having to persevere with the thumb. it's slowly beginning to feel more natural. More clawhammer lessons would be great please.
Hi Jim! I was wondering, when you play the full version at the end, it sounds alot less bare than when I play it, like as if your right hand is strumming in between, is that correct or am I not hearing it right? Greetings from Belgium xxxxx
The only string you're tuning lower is the 4th string and it shouldn't be that sloppy. The 2nd string goes higher (from a b to a c), so it should be tighter.

more clawhammer more more more, thanks Jim.
Thanks 😊
Thanx Jim Pankey for your generosity. You are a great teacher and an excellent player.
Thanks for listening
You are so modest about your playing. It’s not that easy to sound so nice the way your playing sounds. Thank you.
Thanks so much ☺️

Loving the new clawhammer tune, and double c tuning sounds really cool! I'd be down for more videos involving either (or both) of these.
Thanks 😊
Excellent version of this song. I love the clawhammer videos. Thanks!
Thanks for watching 😀
I had this figured out in about 10 minutes. It's one of the coolest yet easiest versions of Cluck Old Hen ever. Thanks for posting this Jim!
Glad I could help!
Wow im really enjoying this version!! Started Clawhammer Banjo in January, im enjoying it so much!! Thank you for this video
Glad you enjoy it!

Thank you so very much!!! Glad you're able to learn from my videos.
My grandfather's cousin was a famous banjo picker back in the 20's. This song is the one recording I found of his. So cool.
What’s his name??

This sounds great! I plan on venturing into the mysteries of clawhammer this summer, this will be on my list!
Hope you enjoy it!
Same! I have the same problem here as I have with guitar though. Fingerstyle comes naturally, but strumming always feels awkward.
Zach… good thing clawhammer isn’t actually strumming.

Spooky is always good. 👻

Thanks so much Jim! So lonesome in the double c!! I’m liking a lot! Can you do Home sweet home one day soon😁
Good suggestion
I absolutely love your content
Thanks!
Your videos are incredibly helpful! Have you considered making a “Let Me Fall” clawhammer (and/or bluegrass) tutorial?
Thanks for the suggestion. :)
Oooooo I like this!
Thanks ☺️
Started in on this one, working on getting part A smooth
Enjoy!
Thank you great song
Thanks

It's the same... just be looser with your right hand
@@JimPankey wow that did the trick...didnt even realise how tight my hand is. Thank you so much you are a great teacher
I want to get a Recording King banjo...Should I get the R20 or save a bit longer for the R35?...I’m an intermediate level player...Thanks.
The RK35, though more expensive, is a much better choice between those two.
More clawhammer! Excellent!!
There’s a more. Find my clawhammer playlist.
Oh man, I wish that was a 3 finger lesson.
Maybe in the future, but I never really play that tune 3 finger.
Me too
After working on bluegrass style for so long, I have no idea where to start learning clawhammer; it feels so WRONG to set my hands up for it. 😂

I'm a little confused, are other strings supposed to ring out when you play the 4 and 2?
They will.
Ok thanks Jim! 👍
When I tune it down to C the strings get really sloppy, do I need thicker strings?
The only string you're tuning lower is the 4th string and it shouldn't be that sloppy. The 2nd string goes higher (from a b to a c), so it should be tighter.
Is clawhammer always played on a banjo without a resonator? Seems like every clawhammer video I find is on an openback.
A lot of people play clawhammer on open backs, but quite a few use resonator banjos too. Grandpa Jones is an easy example.
What banjo you playing there Jim?
It’s a Recording King RK-OT25
@@JimPankey Sounds lovely, I'll look that model up. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Do video on Sugar Hill
