  • Ever wondered how to train your dog to greet guests politely to stop door barking and chaos? I’ve got a solution with a step by step training plan for front door greetings to transform your dog's doorbell or knocking triggers from a source of over-the-top excitement to calm. The dog door greeting protocol makes use of a remote feeder, setting the stage for dogs to settle when someone’s knocking or ringing the doorbell.

Oh this is perfect! Thank you! HOWEVER, I want them to bark to alert me to them seeing someone looking through the windows, knocking or ringing the bell. I want them to bark if they hear the key in the door or see a shadow through the frosted windows. This is often more than enough to chase away an opportunistic burglar.
My desire is that when I signal or command that they stop, or that they see me come through the door, they stop the barking. I also want them to go to their hot zone. This is where I get confused as to what I want them to do, when and how to make it happen.

good grief. how about just saying "no", and stopping the barking. they get it. pat the head when they bark at the right time. so easy. doggy ballet with full orchestra is just silly

We live in an apartment complex so sometimes in the night or in the morning when people leave their places and have to go through the staircase or elevator my dog will alarm bark and run to the door. How do I desensitize him to those general and random sounds/triggers that I can not easily replicate or eliminate?

I have a question/challenge for you. How would you train a dog to ride an escalator? I train service pups and escalator training is a miserable experience.

What type of feeder do you recommend? Any chance for a link to a decent one with a good price? Maybe some ShapedByDog discount code? 😅

I have a 13 year old Chihuahua/Basenji mix (her name is Sammie). She inherited all of the negative Chihuahua traits (neuroses, barking, skittishness, etc.) and none of the Basenji traits. She's extremely friendly, just quick to react when there's a knock at the door, or if she hears a vehicle pull up the driveway. We also have two, 1 year old French Bulldogs that seem to only react when Sammie does. We recently moved from an urban area in a relatively quite neighborhood with lots of traffic and regular occurrences of delivery drivers knocking/ringing the doorbell. We now live on a sizable piece of property in a very rural area, so we have no unannounced visitors, deliveries, and no neighbors to speak of.
Sorry for the long lead-up to my question, but will the same methods in this video apply to a 13 y/o dog that has spent most of her life reacting to people knocking/ringing at the door? Thank you in advance!

I have a deaf dog who's about 80 pounds... How is the best way to train her to not bark at people who come in the front door?

What if your dog is already reactive to a knock & the doorbell? Would you use a another sound first?

Yes, Fiona, use sound, a different type of doorbell sound. Happy training!

My dog goes bonkers *before* the knock on the door - or even without them knocking. The Amazon or USPS delivery person walking up towards the door sets her off even when she is crated upstairs. She doesn't do this with people she knows, so I'm struggling with how to condition her to unexpected strangers in the yard or by the door.

Do I need a remote feeder if there is two of us? Or is it better to not have a person throwing treats ?

Can anyone remind me of susan saying about why dogs miss behave. Something about not having the skill for the situation?
Love the saying, but my mind has messed about with it. :/

      Hi
@bob1234881 maybe it's this one "our dogs are doing the best they can with the education we've given them in the environment we've put them in."
