      Tolkien left behind what others can use to build/create with. How is it people miss that?
      You keep of what is Tolkien to Tolkien. Doing so, is to respect him.
      Use what he has created and assemble with.
      *No matter how well you think you know Tolkien's work, the actual man will tear apart you're thinking. So, no matter what, no one can be Tolkien!!!!
      To try, is to undermind the man himself!!!!
      Thus, what Amazon has done, is great work. They are not Tolkien nor, can anyone ever be.
      To attack Amazon is to not understand no one but, Tolkien can do proper no matter who you are.
      There is 1 master of the work and that man is long gone.
      Be thankful, that man's work lives on and is being done with tons of money by Amazon into such a powerful pool of fantasy for all to get the privilege/honor to enjoy.

    I think Shelob just makes a beast-like appearance. Hunting orcs or surviving Southlanders for food in her lair. Regarding Adar, I agree Sauron might feed Adar to Shelob or do something far much worse to his former lieutenant as an example to the orcs under Adar's leadership.

      @@anni.68 But Season 1 did shatter a lot.
      It is a big deal if you have as your main character someone that is the complete opposite to both what she was previously in the First Age, and to what she was after the BS that you are just making up. What they did to Galadriel is a disgrace. The oldest elf in Middle Earth (after Cirdan), and the wisest (the disciple of Melian the Maia) running about like an angry teenager?. Absolutely shattered.
      As for the double Durin? they didn't really need to do it, even with time compression. Actually, how is time compression a valiud excuse to do that?.
      It just shows that they don't give a toss about the source material, because they think they know better. Hubris.

This guy is narcissistic he doesnt care/respect his families legacy. I mean he was disowned for a reason. And now hes a consultant on RoP. He will do everything to try to destroy the legacy of the great Tolkien himself because hes not talented enough.

    • @666xurxo
      @666xurxo Год назад +7

      @@anni.68 Yes; Galadriel was into sports, she rode horses (hence her defined as an "amazon"), and she did indeed look at the Dwarves of Khazad-dum with "the eye of a commander". That's all true.
      But she wasn't addressing humans as "mere mortals" implying their inferiority, no one in the House of Finarfin would do that; remember that her brother Finrod died helping Beren to escape (he wasn't even killed by Sauron, btw, her whole motivation in the show is just made up BS).
      This "Galadrielle" is a revengeful character who needs to be put in place in most occassions by her juniors; like when Elendil compares her to his own kids in the show, after she points a dagger to his neck for no reason!!.
      This is no wise, powerful elf...this is most of the time a teenager in a tantrum. All the people she interacts with in the show wants to get rid of her.
      We first see her in the show when the soldiers at her command beg her to stop their march, or one of them will die; she answers he can **** right off, as far as she is concerned. She is a psycopath. Are we meant to like her?
      I'll say it again, she's the complete opposite to the wise elf who learnt from Melian, as she was described to be in the First Age.

    • @666xurxo
      @666xurxo Год назад +4

      @@anni.68 I never said Tolkien wrote she was the wisest elf in Middle Earth, where do you get that from? Is that your straw man argument?
      I do have my opinion on the subject, though; just like you say you have yours.We do know, nonethelesss, that she studied for thousands of years at Doriath, having Melian the Maia as her mentor. She learnt from the wisest deity available at the time, if you will. She's also older that the sun and the moon. So, she's not the type of character who needs to be (rightfully) reprimanded by her juniors, like this "Galadrielle" seems to be.
      Finally, we weren't talking here about PJ adaptations; that's a different subject altogether. This is about you saying that S1 of RoP "didn't shatter anything"; and me answering you that what they did to the character of Galadriel is just a sickening disgrace. Absolutely shattered.

    • @kennygraham4067
      @kennygraham4067 Год назад +6

      @@anni.68 sigh. There was PLENTY of pushback on the PJ adaptation character changes. Especially on Aragorn and Faramir from what I remember. And plenty of push back on other changes too. The difference is that it got enough other things right for a movie that many pre-existing Tolkien fans still enjoyed them. If ROP managed to nail a ton of other aspects of the show (which in my opinion they did not) then the criticism of Galadriel being off would probably be more tempered. It would still be there. Just like it is still there for Faramir. But there would be far more positive discourse for it to be lost in.
      Also, in regards to Galadriel he also wrote "from her earliest years she had a marvelous gift of insight into the minds of others, but judged them with mercy and understanding, and she withheld her good will from none save only Feanor. "
      Yep that sounds like Rings of Power Galadriel. She definitely seems to have a marvelous insight into the minds of others in the show. 😛
      I still maintain it was a mistake to make Galadriel the main character....especially since they insisted on her acting 'young and brash' throughout the majority of the season. I imagine by the end of the series proper, they plan to portray her much more akin to how she should have been by the time the 2nd Age rolls around. But, it shouldn't come as a shock that people don't like her being abrasive, angry, and 'tempestuous' throughout most of what we have gotten to see. If they wanted to explore this character arc with an elf in the show, just invent an actually young elf for it instead of using one of the oldest named characters we have that is currently residing in Middle Earth.
      Edit: One last point. If they had changed Aragorn to act like Galadriel does in ROP......there would have been much, much more backlash against that change at the time. Instead, they changed Aragorn to start out more as a reluctant King. That is typically viewed as a relatively positive character trait, thus is an easier change to stomach while you are waiting for him to grow into his true role.

    I think Sauron feeding Adar to Shelob actually makes the most sense if they even slightly stick to the books. Sauron allowed Shelob to dwell in Cirith Ungol specifically to guard the western pass into Mordor, and even went so far as to feed prisoners to her on occasion.
    And thankfully I agree that I find Shelob in human form unlikely. As much as I love Shadow of War, I don't think Rings of Power would risk that, since it would be too blatant a reference for those who had played it, and confusing and off putting for those who hadn't.

    Did Shelob bite instead of sting in the book? I looked through it for a few minutes, but didn't see a mention of it in the battle scene between Sam and Shelob. It mentions how he was under her belly, and out of reach of her stinger, or her claws (one of which he cut off with string).
    At least in that scene, when Shelob is bearing down on Frodo, Sam never sees what happens because Gollum attacks at that moment. When Sam fight him off, he rushes out to see Shelob tying Frodo up.

I have purchased a few of the books published by Christopher Tolkien, and, just the other week, finished listening to an audio reading of the Tolkien trilogy. And ironically, my favorite book store just called me an hour ago to tell me they had my copy of The Fall of Numenor. I would never call myself a super fan. But I do have massive respect for Tolkien.
    I have no love for TROP. Though I have loved Star Wars far longer, in many ways, I feel even worst about what Amazon is doing to Tolkien's work then what Kathleen Kennedy and her ilk are doing to George Lucas's. When I hear news about TROP season 2, I just roll my eyes and say, "Haven't you done enough?"
    Though a lot of the ideas NOTR is suggesting here are actually pretty good, I do not believe the writers of the show are clever enough to think of these. And if they are, then they will deliberately choose not to use them because "It focuses too much on a man," or some other stupid excuse. Season 1 sucked massive mumakil balls, and I don't have any faith in season 2.

Writers strike? The viewers need to go on strike against this show. The writing here is like a dark, corrupt spirit being put out into the world, this is not near the divine work of Tolkien that has lifted and guided generation after generation of man. The challenge is the myopic viewpoint of people not to see the power of bad writing to do harm to the spirit of the viewers in the same way good writing and storytelling can keep a person alive. This is unacceptable.

Anyone who knows anything about spiders will tell you that no spider in the world has a stinger like that. Shelob isn't a spider. She just looks like one. She had a bite and a stinger and each had its own type of poison according to the orcs that showed up after Frodo was stung. Frodo specifically says she stings him and doesn't bite him and the conversation that the orcs have bear that out as well.
