    Thank you so much Dr Mark. I was diagnosed with SLE last year, I was very ill - I refused all the harmful meds and listened to all the information you're putting out there and have turned my health around. As an AHP myself, I'm now able to return to work and will be promoting Functional Medicine and your site to EVERYONE....you're a superstar. Thank you so much! And yes it was Robert Sapolsky that wrote Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers - I love that too and his biography - if anyone hasn't read the biography - read it its hilarious and so informative too....

      @@angelarohr2479 Hi Angela, sorry taken me a long time to reply I've not been on here for ages. I got a gut microbiome test done (shocking results) saw a nutritionist who prescribed herbs to clear the gut and heal it. Got a heavy metals test done - found I was very high in arsenic, again followed nutritionist advice to heal that too. Driven down inflammation with - gentle exercise each day, acupuncture, removal of nearly all sugar from my diet. I hyper nourish each morning with a smoothie of spinach, blueberries, spirulina, chia seeds, flaxseed oil and water and then a fresh salad for lunch and whatever I like for supper. No processed foods at all (unless I'm having a cheat which I do no one's perfect). I prefer to eat foods rather than take supplements so eat three squares of black chocolate a day for magnesium too. I do take probiotics (as prescribed by nutritionist to meet my personal needs) vit D and omega 3 daily.... Obviously we are all different but I've found somatic muscle release has really helped my chronic pain and reduced it to nearly zero too. It's taken me about 8 months of this to really turn things around but youd not really know Ive got lupus now.... I hope some of this might help you Angela, we're all different - get your gut and heavy metals checked is the starting point..... loads of luck!

    Wow, I didn’t realize that processed foods and sugars can cause bodily stress!! That’s wild. My dad has type 2 diabetes and swears by his morning oatmeal and sweet orange juice every morning. My mom has dementia (“type 3”) and seems to crave sweets too. Both are well into their 80s and still managing just fine for themselves. With me as their caregiver. When I suggest they cut the habits, they laugh and say “we’re 86-87 and still going strong!”

      Just switch to no sugar added oj. Add some raisin, cinnamon and ginger to the oatmeal to reduce need for sugar.
      At least they are not eating froot loops and soda.

      As a doctor, I can confirm that processed foods and sugars can be harmful to our bodies, causing health problems like diabetes and dementia.
      Even though your parents are in their 80s and doing well, it's important to take care of our health no matter our age. I recommend that they try to cut back on processed foods and sugars and eat more whole foods and fresh fruits.
      I hope this information helps. Please encourage your parents to speak with their doctor about any dietary changes they are considering.

    Dear Dr. Mark ...Im a physician myself ,I live in Africa. I have both Primary Biliary Chlangitis (previously known as chirrosis) and rheumatoid arthritis.I used to be able to exercise and function around the house and work long hours. Now, I suffer from brain fog, depression, and of course fatigue. I'm 45 years old and it all started with my second pregnancy 11 years ago. Is fasting recommended for liver autoimmunity and what foods should I avoid?

    Cortisol also ruins your bones and gives you osteoporosis....u forgot this one!!!!

    • @AnnTsungMD
      @AnnTsungMD Год назад

      Absolutely! High levels of cortisol can reduce your body's ability to absorb calcium, which is important for healthy bones. This can happen when you're under stress for a long time. Therefore, it's essential to find ways to manage stress and lower cortisol levels. You can do this by exercising, practicing meditation, or other stress-reducing activities.
