I am creating an online course through Pat's "Smart From Scratch Program". I have a list of just under 500 that I hope to grow to 1000 + by the fall when I launch my eCourse. I am just starting to work on my content and list building strategy between now and then so this is perfect! My latest blog post got over 600 hits (largest yet) but only 1 list subscription. I think adding a checklist, cheatsheet or template content upgrade would be a great next step for me. I may try a free mini eCourse as well. Thanks again Pat!

I'm a family travel blogger who helps families travel more with their kids. One of the ways that I want to help is with making goals, being accountable to those goals and saving money for those goals. To get people interested I thought I would test out asking a couple questions in the optin like, 'Where are you hoping to travel next?' and 'When do you want to get there?', "Set your goals and let me help you achieve them. I'll send you my 5-Day Money Making Challenge for your first $500 toward your travel plans" Does it seem like a bad idea to ask questions like that? I don't see many bloggers doing it so it would seem like it's not a good idea. But then I know that I enjoy setting goals, answering quiz like questions, etc.
PAT. This is absolute fire. I have felt totally tapped out with what to send my audience. Been at it for two years ago and have hit my first "brick wall" with content to keep them engaged. This is totally amazing.

How do I generate lead magnets for a blog I'm starting that focuses more on my story and personality and how it all fits together, while providing intangible things like emotions, hope, feeling of not being alone, it's okay to ask for help? I'm not doing this for sympathy. I'm doing it to share my story to provide hope to others.

Hey Pat, with the new European GDPR rules taking effect at the end of May, it is forbidden by law to make subscribing to a newsletter a prerequisite to getting a product, download, or service. Theoretically, this does not only apply to site owners in Europe, but to anyone in the world who offers services to Europeans (dunno how they're enforce that, though). So, do you have any alternative ideas to offering a lead magnet? One could still offer an email course, but you'd only be allowed to use the customer's email for the course and the course alone. No newsletter after that, unless the customer explicitly gives his permission to do so. So, are lead magnets dead?
Not dead, but if you’re gonna collect EU email addresses you need to have a system in place to comply with GDPR for those emails. To start come May 20ish I will not be accepting EU emails into my list until things get more refined and figured out.

Pat Flynn how do you know if an email address is from Europe? I am from Germany and I have a gmail.com address.
IP. ConverKit is an email service provider that I use that has geo capabilities. They seem to be on top of it.
