- Today I am sharing 5 quick and easy store cupboard meal ideas. These meals are all using items which I usually keep in my store cupboard mainly, but also a few fridge and freezer items too.

MEALS & INGREDIENTS USED:
1. CHICKPEA CURRY
1 onion
3 garlic cloves
1 nub of ginger
1 tin of chickpeas
1 tin of coconut milk
200ml veg stock
1/2 250g jar curry paste
mango chutney
2. TOAD IN THE HOLE:
Sausages
1/2 onion
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
4 eggs
gravy
3. LENTILSHEPHERDS PIE:
1 onion
3 cloves of garlic
1 red pepper
2 cups of lentils
1 tin chopped tomatoes
soy sauce
lea & perrins
marmite
600ml veg stock (add more if needed)
potatoes for mash
cheese
4. LEMON AASPARAGUS ORZO
1 onion
3 garlic cloves
Orzo
100ml Veg stock (add more if needed)
juice from 1 lemon
1 heaped teaspoon dill
asparagus
5. VEGGIE LASAGNA
1 onion
3 garlic cloves
1 red pepper
1 cup lentils
1 tin chopped tomatoes
soy sauce
Lea & Perrins
Marmite
butter
flour
milk
spinach
lasagna sheets
cheese

It's been pretty cool during this last year and a half of everything shut down, because when my kids see a delicious recipe of yours that they want to make for dinner, they have to do their math work first.
I had to teach them how to do the Metric to U.S. Standard conversions. We all have fun doing this.

I add lots of finely diced mushrooms to a lentil Bolognese sauce and it has a lovely meaty look and flavour

Love these recipes. I use lentils all the time to bulk up on veggies or to make meat mince go a bit further. Puy lentils are also great as a meat substitute too xx

@@KerryWhelpdale pasta and eggs are difficult to get hold of. I could possibly go further afield but I'm staying local as we are in lockdown. The worse thing is I'm on my sons last bit of his gluten free pasta, he gluten and wheat intolerant :(

Just found your channel and am in love! Wonderful, practical and delicious meals. What a confidence boost it was to find and watch you make these meals with easy to find ingredients. The chickpea curry is so yummy :) we just had the leftovers for lunch! I am going to try adding lentils to my curry.. I do make a lentil curry but never usually with meat in it, just prawns so I’m going to try it with chicken next time :) xxx

@@KerryWhelpdale well both have been a big success. Especially the lasagne. Thankfully I made two so one is in the freezer for midweek. I never would have thought to put marmite & soy sauce in it. Delicious!
Marmite in the sauce totally makes it right?! Adds do much flavour but isn’t overpowering either :) I’ve also got one in the freezer too :) xxx

Kerry, really am loving your storecupboard meal ideas. ! The red lentils look to be a great substitute for mince. The only thing I don't have in my cupboard is Marmite..I'll chance it without it until I get to the shops again. Stay well😘
Oohh yes defo get some marmite next time you are out.. if you want a substitute and aren’t veggie then add a beef stick cube for the flavour.. otherwise just leave it out all together :) xxx

Liked the veg take on the lasagna my husband only eats seafood so thank you for those two recipes using lentils. All the way from Bermuda.
That lasagne looks delicious! Only problem is my husband would make a huge fuss if there wasn't any meat in it - but I like the idea of bulking up our normal mince with lentils. Also will definitely try adding spinach to the white sauce! We always have spinach in the freezer! :-)
Oh yes absolutely.. try bulking up your meat first and then slowly take the meat down and down and I bet he will love it just as much!! Hehe xxx
Hi Kerry, Grateful once more for this varied and useful everyday meal collection! I'll give your orzo pasta a go for sure!
Through trial and error,I've discovered that blitzing peppers along with with onions ,garlic, courgette etc,makes any dish quite bitter.Have you found this at all? If I blitz the other veg,minus the peppers,then add the peppers diced by hand at the frying stage,there's no bitterness which comes from the skins if the peppers I've discovered! Guess that's why we have to roast peppers before skinning them and adding chopped flesh to roasted red pepper soup!!

So glad you enjoyed this :) oh no I haven’t found that at all.. when I add the peppers it gives my dish a really lovely sweetness to it.. do you think it’s the courgette?? I love making a tomato sauce for all my pastas.. I usually make a big batch and then freeze half for the next week :) xxx
@@KerryWhelpdale I'll try it next time without the courgette! I add courgette to almost every dish cos it can be grated or very finely chopped,it's so inoffensive,yet is still another veg to include in your daily intake! My wee grandkids don't even notice it's there- they probably think every saucy food has little green bits in it😂I'll definitely try omitting it though next time I zizz veggies together!! Oh my goodness, toad in the hole! I haven’t has that for AGES! Having this today 😊 also thanks for the lentil recipes, I ended up with a packet of red lentils that I have absolutely no idea what to do with! I also have a tin of green lentils, could you use those for the shepherds pie also? Excellent video, all those recipes look scrummy!
The road in the hole is so easy to make and soooo yummy! Yes the green lentils will be perfect for the shepherds pie too.. you can mix the two together :) with the tinned lentils you don’t need to soak them as they have already been soaking in water.. so just drain the water out and then add them into the mixture straight from the tin :) xxx

I live in scotland and we make lentil and bacon soup with red lentils - red lentils, ham stock, carrot, leek bacon bits (optional) ... its so tasty, filling and cheap and can be thrown together with frozen veggies x

I loved all of these Recipes Kerry my vegetarian will love these too 💖 I made a lasagne last night with spinach in my white sauce and added a little Feta and instead of lasagne sheets (I ran out) I used thinly sliced Pumpkin 💖

Kerry Whelpdale no I didn’t and I should of cooked it a like first too as it wasn’t as soft as I like . I did beef mince but I’ll definitely Try the lentils next time . X

Tried your lasagne and omg... I can't believe how tasty you can make lentils! Me and hubby both agreed that it was just as tasty and substantial as a normal lasagne. I'd have never thought of using lentils but it will definitely be a regular for us from now on! Xx

The chock pea curry looked great ,i cook chickpea currys ALOT in our house as my son is a veggie and we always have lots its awesome meat alternative and my hubby and other kids dont even miss the meat at all.Thanks for sharing hun we are all clearing the back of the cupboards at the moment haha ❤️

Aahh maybe you know marmite as veggiemite?? It’s actully a vegan product that tastes like a beef stock.. sounds really weird but it’s absolutely delicious :) xxx

Marmite is yeast extract.. it tastes a bit like beef stock but richer.. but it doesn’t actually contain any meat! It’s like veggiemite from Australia :) xxx

Try making sure your batter is really cold (put it in the fridge while the sausages are cooking) and the dish/tin you cook it in is really hot before you pour it in - really helps!

Everyone of these looks delish. I have become an accidental vegetarian since lock down as I would rather the children had the meat. Altho have been sneaking lentils into all our mince based meals for months lol
We are eating way more veggie meals too.. and we are living them.. great idea to sneak the lentils in.. jamie can sometimes be funny with lentils but he loves them in these meals :) xxx
