Joe is one of the academical monument from HBS. I remember a standing ovation that we had after one of his amazing lecture. @SteveHovland: I couldn't have said it better myself. People get tired of overworking and doing more than their lazy counterparts and it goes unappreciated. This is one of the many reasons I'm starting my own business.
+Bloombaby99 Not all companies are what you described though. There are good companies out there that care about their employees cause they know the improvement is based upon experience and knowledge and keeps their company going and the only way to find these people is by employing them or improving their employees. Some companies will have to learn the hard way about this for the ones that don't give opportunities when the time comes for them to change.
Inside almost every large organization people complain about too many managers and too few leaders, but all the real leaders most companies hire are quickly forced out or assigned to the hinterlands because they challenge the status quo, which is typically a little gang of cronies at the top. Companies talk about developing leaders but they develop managers.

If your company has 2 straight quarters of losses, goodbye CEO. Just ask the CEO of MySpace who was fired 8 months into the job because of Facebook. Nowadays CEOs are three times more like to lose their jobs. Its not easy to be a CEO.

@andrefsferreira You are kind of right, but these tips can help you just going up the organization, and developing yourself. At least that's my opinion.
irony is successful CEOs neither have time nor inclination to listen to or follow such videos. Prof like these, they just examine lives of successful CEOs and interpret in their own ways and publish them. And people like you and I listen to them in a vain hope that we would one day become a successful CEO after listening and following this. I think successful CEO is all about execution with commonsense and intelligence.
I think this is a new thing. You being able to listen to these types of talks on the way to work. Gather information and learn. You have the old way of thinking. Guys keep going, you learn and you apply and you grow.

@noizereduction Self-proclaimed "entrepreneurs"? what does that even mean ? If you're a person that looks for gaps in markets and then creates businesses that fill that gap and provide good products/services to the world then guess what... you're an entrepreneur... it's something you DO not something you "proclaim" yourself to be. As for people who can't communicate with clarity, go seek out your OWN teachers that you respect and who you can learn from and start their and quit complaining.
Not going to watch all of this. Whos above the CEOs (technically I know who)? Is it the Board of Directors? I always thought the CEOs were the ones who owned the business the most. Its not... its the Board of Directors due to the SHAREHOLDER or STOCKHOLDER? Is it the Board of Directors that own that?

What a joke! Don't listen to this guy! He's been in academia his entire life! Why would you take business advice from someone that's never run a business?
Seriously? This guy is a Harvard Professor? Wow...some standard they have at Harvard. Seriously though, I thought Harvard is supposed to have one of the best business programs in the nation. Academia does not prepare you for business.

Non-profit organization involvement is one of the best way to develop your leadership skills. I agree. You learn as you help!
Asking right questions to yourself and to your team is always the Key !
Yes your best opponent is yourself and you should always ask yourself right questions and be better of me i know that u will think it is kind of silly
I like how this guy constantly looks down at his notes like a life preserver. I am curious what his actual CEO experience on a personal level is.

Can we, one day, out source CEO’s job to India since every job has been out sourced.

This guy is stuck in the 50s and 60s. Companies don't help anyone or train anyone to do anything. You have to prove yourself on a social level.
Tap dance??? Wow really structured concept. I'm thrilled. Don't wanna be demanding but I'm afraid my expectations were bit high with this one.

Started off interesting. Discussion about "insider outsider". Then never delved into it.
I have no idea what a CEO's job is
What do they need to know?

Rightly said. Delivering responsibility is key note. It may change level to level , condition to condition and situation also

The title of the talks are really alive with John Maxwell about developing the leader within you

ZVER410 That's not true. There are a tons of CEO's and founders who have no business degree and are doing phenomenally.
