I am in the market for a Mazda CX-5 Sport on a 2017, it was such a pleasure to hear you speak in terms of how committed you are to the service of the vehicle. Hi Spencer, apologies for the delayed response. If you do or have bought one, the only chain that fails is the oil pump timing chain. Simply due to its small size. Get the intake manifold cleaned and injector washers around 100k km or 60k miles. Exhaust camshaft at 150k kms or 90k miles, then that’s it. A good car thereafter. Happy new year mate 🙏🙏

    • @kennedysgarage3281
      @kennedysgarage3281  4 месяца назад

      It depends on what you feel is best. Some people would say soak everything in oil. I put oil on bearings but not on the chain. Simply due to it taking quite a few turns over before the engine fires. I feel this lubricates everything at a low engine speed, but everyone is different 🤔🤔

  • @vrrcf

    Hi Peter, I saw that you mounted the FAI brand timing chain kit, so not the original Mazda one, so the compatible kits are also fine in your opinion. They don't cause problems even if they are not original, right? Some mechanics say that you have to mount the original spare parts to avoid problems, what do you think about this? I also saw in some shops in Germany that sell on Ebay the camshaft kit together with the rocker arms but it is not original, in your opinion is it safe to mount the compatible camshaft? Thanks for the answer you will give me.

    I'm waiting for this to happen to my 2016 Mazda 6, 125k miles. Only last week I had the oil sump strainer and injector seals replaced after low oil pressure warning. Had them do what inspection they could on the oil pump chain after watching your videos, they said it looked fine at this stage but any examination can only be superficial. If I was in IE I'd bring it to you, but alas...

    Ahh Peter another 2.2 Skyactiv saved..😊 great job…that’s a good idea of the angle grinder on those pesky bolts/nuts on the ECU…I just ended up pulling the whole loom back and leaving the ECU and looms connected. One thing I noted about the cam shaft when I was rebuilding was that most of actual exhaust valves were so SO tight..it was very understandable as to why the shaft would have worn so badly…I’d be very curious to know how long a second cam shaft lasts before it’s ground back down if the valves are not removed and reseated…I know your into a much bigger job at that point..but just an observation and the curiosity side of me coming out 😊

    Hey Peter, my 2014 Mazda 6 2.2d died few days back. Had issues with the DPF warnings so got the DPF taken out few months back. Few days ago I was driving along and as soon as I went over 2500revs the car started to shudder, I pressed the clutch and reved it up and it flashed up a load of lights and died in the middle of the road. Would not start, engined turned over with heavy shudder and no lights on the dash. I reakon it could be the timing chain! Have you heard of this before... Thanks David in Galway

      Hi David, these are very common events to happen. The engine is in need of tlc and then blocks the Dpf. Unfortunately people the fix or remove the Dpf but never look at what problems caused it to block in the first place.
      It sounds like you could have a heavily blocked intake manifold. Only oil pump timing chains fail which cause oil pressure faults. I’ll copy and paste part 1 of 3 videos on a similar issue I had. Or just skip to parts 2 for the intake manifold clean

      Thanks for the reply Peter.... Removed the intake manifold 2 days ago after reviewing your other videos (they were a great help). Yes the intake manifold was caked in carbon build-up but not completely blocked. Plan on cleaning out the lot and reassembling. Checked the injectors and getting plenty of diesel. Hopefully the blockage is the issue. Thanks again David

      Quick update Peter, cleaned out the manifold and ports and gave a quick scrub to the egr valve but no change car still won't start.. Bit more background as I said I got dpf done 2 months the egr valve was also mapped out... It was working OK slight shudder from the engine when in a higher gear with low revs.. Went to Centre Parcs last week for 3 days 🙄 using missus car so it was left there, when I got home it was a bit harder to start, it was pretty low in diesel so filled it up in the town over, on the way back the issued started shudder when revving for 2500revs etc.... 160000 miles on her.... Been a great car up until the last 6 months 😞

      Hi, I’m not too knowledgeable on quality of items I use but if I know the supplier and I am familiar with the brand then I generally use them with mostly no issues.
      Knowing my supplier means they will normally offer warranty on parts & labour if and items fail 😉👍👍

      The timing chain replacement is around €1500 but it is advisable to replace the oil strainer when you have the sump/ oil pan removed, this could cost around €200 extra. Hopefully this helps 🙏🙏👍

    Hey Peter . Would you be able to talk to the Diagnostic reading of the Camshaft Differential and if there is a reading that indicates the chain stretch. Have 3 MAzda CX5's with readings of 0.9 , 2.4 & 4.6. I am worried that the last car reading the 4.6 needs a new Chain. Are you familiar with this Reading ? Do you know if there is a Recomended Differential number that indicates a need to replace the Chain. Could it be a useful reading to get ?

    Mazda 6 diesel engines have issues major ones according to diesel mechanics the turbos fail cam lobes wear prematurely, pick up sump pump screens block up, the subject of much discussion. The waste gates are also problems in them.

    • @kennedysgarage3281
      @kennedysgarage3281  3 месяца назад

      @@Alladin-n5j if injector washers leak this causes carbon buildup in the engine, this carbon then blocks the oil strainer. Blocked oil strainer causes lower oil pressure and makes turbos and big end bearings to fail.
      So change the injector washers and problem solved 🙂🙂
