+Blank ᅚ Get to know shit before typing your goddamn keyboards. I'm a total Surface supporter but even me still having the same problem with my bluetooth keyboard running on Windows 8's login screen. It seems like after being put on sleep mode the bluetooth service just can't wake up automatically. Reboot everytime, and it happens everyday
You do know that with windows 10 you can install any program/app directly from any website through any webbrowser for windows right? With windows you're not restricted to just the app store. You will just need to get used to that. Then actually you get all the programs(apps) that were ever made for windows(since windows 95). And that makes it many more apps for windows than there will ever be in the apple app store. On a tablet.
not true when you talk in terms of tablet mode. I want a dedicated tablet app for Amazon prime video. right now it doesn't exist and I'm forced to use the amazon.com website, which works but doesn't offer the same tablet optimized interface as it does on the iPad.
+xxxxxxxxxxxxxx5 I am getting what he is saying. you guys aren't getting what I'm saying. the iPad is hugely successful because of the apps. it's what makes it stand out from laptops, tablets, and desktop PCs. Windows market has a terrible app store, thus it can not effectively compete against the iPad as a tablet. But the surface is another beast all together. the fact that you can install any windows software makes it infinitely more usable, but it still doesn't make up for the negative impacts in user experience when using it in tablet mode.
***** So what? I can make a shortcut, big deal. Does that get me a dedicated app? No. Sure it saves me two seconds of finger poking. It's Useful, yes, but certainly not the preferred solution.
Bro I think you need to spend time with this product before you complain about the keyboard not working, you're the one doing something wrong, I did notice any keyboard lag, plus how can u type alphabet when only numbers are required...
1. Setup Windows Hello and prepare to be blown away 2. Get a Microsoft Dock, it has a ton of ports and charges your device 3. Also bug fixes coming for this device pretty regularly. Also update only after you read the forums, some updates screw up a few devices
As someone who has just used a Surface Pro 3, i7, 8GB RAM with 256GB SSD for some 12+ months now, I have to say these reviews about 'comfort' of portability, are a bit lazy and wrong (IMHO). I've been flying between Sydney and Melbourne (1 hour 10 minute flight) in Australia every week for 7 months working for a Melbourne based company. I've had to spend roughly an hour in the airport lounge on the way at both ends, obviously an hour on the flight both ways, working in the hotel almost every night and then working at a desk in the client's office who has supplied me with a large monitor. Not once have I experienced 'discomfort' because of the design. When I can't use the tray table on the plane - you can't use a keyboard anyway when plane is taxiing and taking off and landing - I simply use the onscreen keyboard. Otherwise with my bluetooth headphones I listen to music or watch videos. You can actually close the lid completely and put the Surface in the seat pouch in front of you and still listen to music! The kickstand is a godsend when watching videos on your lap or even doing some light work. Then when I can use the tray table it's great because I can either flip the keyboard out or reverse the keyboard cover underneath and sit the Surface on itself (think of a triangle side on with the keyboard as the base). I can comfortably use the keyboard and have a drink or coffee on the tray table. When back in the airport lounge I can simply either flip out the keyboard or just use it in tablet mode. When I get to the hotel I just put it on the desk and fire it up! I either tether it to my Lumia 930 mobile 4G hotspot but I always carry a portable 4G WiFi dongle with me and use that (it's safer than using hotel WiFi!). I've also been watching Netflix and other videos from the Surface Pro 3 onto the hotel TV via HDMI or the Microsoft wireless adapter (if the TV has a USB port as well). When I get to the client office I just pull it out and plug in the monitor and I have a desktop PC. It is awesome when I'm going to meetings all day and either taking notes or presenting. I use a HD cable to plug into a room TV or projector and I can use Office Remote to control the PowerPoint remotely if I need to. Now, if I had a laptop I would not have the flexibility to use it in all situations as the laptop footprint on a tray table is a big footprint, particularly in an economy seat. Also, I cannot use a laptop when the flight is taxiing, taking off and landing but I can use a Surface. I have some 500GB of files synced on OneDrive so I have a subset of them on my Surface Pro 3 at anytime, all on my home PC, available to download to my mobile or ability to access, download and share them via a browser. It is also the best backup system ever for all my files! I've been video editing, image editing, running 250MB+ PowerPoint presentations with embedded video and a lot of really taxing stuff and yet my i7 Surface Pro 3 barely purrs. And boot times are 3-5 seconds at most if shutdown and instant from sleep which is automatic if you close the keyboard - but music still runs in headphones if it's playing. Literally the only gripe I have is trying to use the Surface type cover for hours everyday! Sometimes I've had to plug in a real keyboard as you sometimes make mistakes (keys so close together) but that's a sinch to use another proper keyboard. However, they've nailed this with the keyboards for the Surface Pro 4 by spacing the keys further apart and making the trackpad larger. And, the Surface Pro 4 keyboards are backwards compatible with Surface Pro 3! So, you can listen to a reviewer using it for a few days or a couple of weeks or someone who's been using it full on over 7 months of weekly travel. P.S. I forgot to mention I have a 64GB micro SD card in my Surface Pro 3 as well just for extra space, but I've never actually needed it with the 256GB SSD onboard.
Two things: 1) For the smooth scrolling issue, you have to disable pinch to zoom in the trackpad settings, before Microsoft adds a fix. 2) for resume: it's not lag, it's Windows that is supposed to resume only if you press the button or a key on the keyboard... It's just different from what you think!
While inputing the PIN You are only allowed to enter numbers. So it is no connectivity issue You mentioned at the start of the video. But the fact that You try to input characters. Which are not allowed in the PIN field.
Why so many dislikes? Real world opinion from real world people like the guy in the video are useful. Reviews that just trot out specs and regurgitate marketing blurb are useless.
Stephen Ambruzs lol not at all the problem is that you have awareness. It says enter Pin, you can't enter letters only numbers. It's not an example of the type cover not working it's an example that you don't pay attention.
Interesting review! Id like to share some tips to get you going..It starts faster from sleep when you press the power button instead of the enter key. Or you could click with the mouse, also faster.then if you enable windows hello you are logged in in a second after your mouseclick without having to type a password.you seem like you are used to apps but you dont need an app, if you are on amazon, wherever part you would like to start in normally, just drag the task on your start menu to have a shortcut to that site. you can also enable hey cortana to get hands free control over your computerhope you enjoy using it as your main machine and learn the tricks that make it the most personal and productive piece of portable hardware ever
I currently have a mac book pro 13 inch. Its a bit old, since i bought it in december 2010, so I decided that it was time for a change. I just use my laptop to surf the web (facebook, youtube, etc), and use microsoft office to do my work. That's pretty much it. So, I am torn between the new mac book pro 13 inch and this exact surface model that you have, because I love that the surface is much more confortable to carry, etc. But I already know that the mac book is a really good machine. Would you recommend me to get the surface? Or of you had the chance again, would you go for the mac? And also, thanks for the honest and original review.
+Novashadow115 because that's not what I do. I use lightroom for photography work, Sony Vegas for movie editing, bit torrent clients, TCP/IP networking etc. none of which can be done on an iPad.
***** Not talking about what you do. You were recommending a product to Pedro who very clearly said he just browses and uses office. I am asking YOU, why would you recommend such an expensive product to Pedro who has basic needs
+Novashadow115 Because he's comparing it to a $1,000 plus macbook laptop. It's obviously in his budget and he likely values hardware and quality machinery.
The scrolling problem is a well known issue related to a hardware/software interface where the device is purposefully checking to see if you are trying to zoom or not (two pinch zoom). It creates a half-second delay before executing your two finger scroll command from the trackpad. This can be disabled and your scroll will be much smoother.
I have the surface pro 4 and the new macbook 12 retina, both have there pros and cons, nothing is as beautiful as the macbook, its build quality beats anything on the market, in terms of use the surface pro can do a lot more and is far more practical although ugly in comparison! so basically if you need a machine that can do anything on the move get the surface pro, If you want something beautiful and don't do anything more than check the web, watch movies, listen to music and use basic software then get the mac. just my thoughts :-)
I was having the same scrolling problem in my browsers. I went into Settings and turned down the CPU Maximum performace from 100% to 75% and the juttering went. I liken it to a car being driven with the pedal fully to the floor - you can't go any faster. But by limiting the CPU you no longer having it maxing it out. It worked for me and my laptop now seems faster despite the CPU cap.
I am like you and switched from Apple to Windows. Tip for you that I had to accept. MacOS is MacOS. Windows is Windows. Do not bring MacOS expectations into Windows and vice versa....
As others have pointed out you can install any app for windows and are not restricted to an app store. If you really want an app store, out more precisely the play store you could always install Bluestacks. That provides an android emulator with play store access. I used it to allow me to play clash of clans on my surface pro 3. It's a wild change switching from a phone to a huge tablet hybrid to play the game. just a thought of course....
That delay is probably because you're trying to wake it with the bluetooth keyboard rather than the power button, which means it needs to wait for bluetooth to reconnect. I see the same thing with my iPad. I agree that it's kinda annoying when comparing to a laptop, but if you just hit the power button on top it should be quite a bit faster. Thanks for the review - I really enjoyed it!
Thanks for this review! I finally decided to get Pro 4 in 2019 instead of Pro and Pro (2018) because it's cheaper and the upgrade from the newer models are not necessary for me.
I've heard the ""lost keyboard connection" is a security thing. If the surface is locked when you undock, it won't reconnect until you unlock the surface. You have to use the on screen keyboard. Apparently you can load viruses onto the keyboard, so this prevents someone from taking your keyboard off and then loading their own.
I recently purchased a somewhat discounted Surface Pro 3 256 Core i5. This is exactly the type of machine I've been looking for. It has extreme portability but is also a very powerful full PC that runs real productivity software. Tablets such as iPads and Android tablets running limited apps make great media consumption devices, but trying to use an iPad to do productive work is a painful experience. I believe that manufacturers inadvertently dangled the carrot of extreme portability and productivity in one package and caused the netbook craze a few years ago, but the netbook just couldn't deliver. I want a full powerful PC, extreme portability, a touchscreen, a good keyboard, a trackpad, along with the ability to connect the peripherals I already have when I need them. The Surface Pro line delivers on all counts. I also like Windows 10. Like you I spent the past few years buying Mac products but since the death of Steve Jobs they seem to be slowly departing from the value proposition.
+shawnthor change the resolution to 2k and youll get 8-9 hours, at 1080p youll get 11-12 hours, If you watching a video on playback (not streaming it) you get 9 hours with brightness at 50%, sound at 20% on headphones, look at the specific microsoft test for details. scrolling through a pdf or ebook with editing every now and then will also get you almost 9 hours battery life.
+Jay illest i think it depends on what apps you are running on the background and how long you have been fully charge the battery after you fully consume the battery. i noticed that when you charging, if it is full, it will not cnarge anymore and the suface starts to use its own battery. hope this helps.
so all it will take my relative to get in my surfbook is put it to my face while im sleeping and then theyll be able to see all the porn sites ive visited huh? is that what you want?
At 4:52 you cant sign in because you have set a pin-code. Watch closely as you type random. When you hit a number it appears on screen. Just as it would with any Windows 10 pin-code. Numbers only. (I know the video is old)
hi,witch would you pick for photo editing ! i have been mostly using a PC.and do lots of photography and then edit my photos on a lap top,but i would like to do more editing on the road!so i was looking at a MB pro or this! thanks vary nice review.
Stephen, provided the more recent Windows updates that have been released since you did your review, and firmware updates; have some of the quirky issues been improved/fixed?
I've been using the SP3 as my primary work and play device for over 7 months now. I love it - I can be working on any document like an ordinary laptop, then take the keyboard off and grab my pen to run to a meeting and take notes, come back and read a long work document and actually write comments by hand (I don't like to read long work documents hunched over my keyboard and prefer to make notes by hand if not using track changes for official use). Then I come home and have the keyboard permanently off to read books, watch movies or just browse the net - all usually lying on the couch. It's an amazingly fun device to use - and has replaced my laptop, tablet AND kindle - which is great as I travel quite a bit and used to carry all three items plus a phone and of course all the chargers as well! So I'm down from 4 devices to 2! I hope you enjoy using your SP4 as much as I enjoy using my SP3!
Thanks for the review! I've been trying to research which tablets could replace a laptop and have been a bit lost as most reviews are very technical (and I'm just not haha), but this review was really useful. One thing I don't think you mentioned was how it goes on battery life. I've read mixed reviews. What do you think about it? How long on average does it last you just doing every day stuff? And also how long does it last if you're watching movies or streaming something like Netflix?
For me, there is only one problem the keyboard! Can't you use a keyboard without tablet? I mean to put the tablet in stand position for example on the table and use only the keyboard when you lie comfortable on the caught? This is very disappointing to me :( If you see for this, any solution I will be more than happy?
+Stephen Ambruzs The reason you are having a difficult time with the keyboard connection, or SEEM to, is because you have been trying to enter a password instead of a PIN. When a PIN is enabled on a Windows 10 device you wont be able to type letter characters, only numbers. Hope this helps.
Hello Stephen. Could you give a feedback after year of usage. How about the battery life? Just want to get one and really concerned about batterylife. Many thanks beforehand
I just have 2 things that I could get your opinion: the battery life you didn't mentioned) and a great problem is, that without an LTE SIM inside, it's almost impossible to replace a tablet. Thanks for the video.
+Luis Antunes I get 9-10 hours depending on usage. full time student here. Don't really need lte considering I have a smart phone, and wifi is everywhere. This is a great tablet. The keyboard is fine. He needs to realize its on a Bluetooth connection. His scrolling techniques also sucks. Don't use chrome as it will suck the battery life out of the sp4 because of flash it uses. edge is ok but I use Firefox for some stuff.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the surface 4 now after using it just over half a year? still love it? any more pet peves you have discovered? I'm also about to leave my MacBook behind but wanna make sure I make the right choice for me :)
re: keyboard not responding from wake - If you're like me, you open the keyboard at the "second" hinge, leaving the keyboard at an angle. What normally works for me (short of reboot) is disengaging that second hinge (so that the keyboard lays flat) then look to see if the keyboard lights up. Once it does, you're golden.
The keyboard connectivity thing has been fixed with a couple of updates. Anyhow, when I experienced this problem, I found out that I didn't need to reboot. Detaching and reconnecting the keyboard worked every time. As for the total number of apps, how come that Apple heads always categorically state that they wouldn't buy anything other than an Apple product because nothing comes close to the app store in total apps (which, incidentally, is no longer true, as Google Play is now in the lead.) And yet to them the fact that OSX has something like TWENTY TIMES LESS APPLICATIONS than Windows is completely irrelevant. Hypocrisy much?
Thanks for a useful review that actually focused on how the SP4 is to use, rather than just listing specs! Much more helpful than all the repeated "seen one, seen them all" reviews!
When you detach the keyboard from the device you are essentially telling it that you are going to use touch. That's why you keep losing the text insertion point. Simply click inside the text box (or touch) to bring the text insertion point back where you want it
not too sure if you have figured this out by now or not but on windows when you have a pin nothing except for the number keys will work until you type in the correct pin, Microsoft realized you do not need to use the letter keys for a number pass code
I think you have a defective type cover, I have not had the scrolling problem nor the slow responsiveness when you reconnect it. As for the slow waking from sleep, connected standby (Instant Go) might be disabled as it should be instant.
I just picked up the iPad Pro 12.9 with smart keyboards and pencil. I wanted to find a larger 2 in 1 type device for working on presentations at home and taking it on the go to present where ever I go. This has been difficult with the iPad as the connections available are limited from this the iPad. This video review you have provided has really made me consider taking back my first apple product, although nice in many ways, seems way to big and iOS may not deliver for my needs. The USB option and display port make a lot of sense and wish I had that here. Wonder how the pen is on the surface compared to the iPad Pro.
The iPad Pencil is definitely leaps and bounds better than any other digital stylus on the market. It has twice the pressure sensitivity of the Surface Pen, it has full tilt and angle support. It also doesn't need batteries, just needs to charge but 15 seconds gets you 30 minutes. However, it has no eraser function on the hardware, it has no way to attach magnetically to the iPad etc. For just taking some notes, the Surface Pen is good. For anything more, the Apple Pencil kills it. But design wise, Apple once again failed at making it easy to stow away.
if I consider only about taking class /lecture notes with maximum possible efficiency, which one is better among surface pro 4 and ipad pro? actually I want to buy devices keeping in mind the main purpose of its uses as academics. ...... so should I go with apple or windows devices?
Hey, if you are a really into android/Google you should try out Amiduos by American Megatrends. It's a full android emulator, runs super smooth and you have the full variety of the Google play store apps. Hope you find this interesting ;)
For the one USB problem... there is a surface dock that is $199.99 that connects to the charger, it includes charging, 3 USBs, an Ethernet slot, and a mini display slot.
I have a question, is still a fan sound on Surface pro 4???? Because one of the reasons I returned the Surface P3, I noticed in many occasions that it was hot very quick. I hope Microsoft fix that problem many customers complain for the same issues.
I am also an Apple Mac user.... Nice review. Im probably gonna buy it. Launching in here in Thailand 19 November. will then have tested both this and the iPad Pro. Thanks again
Despite the claims made in this video my new Surface Pro 4 (i7, 16GB, 512SSD) is a disaster and close to unusable for me at this stage. Unfortunately, most reviewers ignore the real-life issues faced by users. After 5 days of trying to get it to operate I am sending it back to Microsoft. CPU is running at 90-100% most of the time. It is too hot to hold a lot of the time and the fan never stops, even when only charging! How can one expect to make voice recordings in OneNote, or record a video or use voice recognition software (Dragon) or Skype with a fan whine constantly in the background masking the audio. I am told that the fans starts whenever CPU runs above 20%. So how will it be possible to Skype quietly with a couple of other apps running which is a realistic scenario for Skype business calls. Running for 48 hours straight it was not able to sync my 70GB of OneDrive files. Another issue is Hello. If the SP goes to sleep and it is being used as a tablet in a meeting to ink notes on spreadsheets and pdfs, it is necessary to pick up and orientate the SP so that Hello can recognise the user to wake up the tablet. This is very distracting to the user and the meeting. Also, if using a headset, unplugging it does not revert to PC audio. It is necessary to change the sound device in settings! IMO, this is technology way too ahead of itself to be practical. Fortunately, I've still got my HP Probook to use and its fan is very quiet.
i think u should go exchange the keyboard because I had the old version for the Surface Pro 3 for about 8 months and the problem you had with connection had never happened to me. I think it may be a problem with your particular keyboard.
I am in the market for a new laptop and am considering the surface pro 4 or a macbook pro retina, I really like the form factor and all around usability of the surface but have always been used to the refinement in Mac OSX, like the spontaneous wake up from sleep. Do you think the form factor and portability of the surface is worth the compromise in refinement and are there any other nuances you've found while using your surface?
+sfbayak I think if you want a laptop, get a laptop. There is nothing, and let me repeat, nothing like a macbook air or macbook pro retina. But If you have a need for a tablet hybrid, e.g. watching movies in bed, using the pen for creative work, etc. Then the surface is a great device. It is not a perfect laptop, nor is it a perfect tablet, but it does something most other machines can not do, and that is to walk a fine line between both devices. I miss my Mac, but I don't miss it enough to go back at this point. It's a tough decision because laptops are still great devices 90% of the time. Hope that helps.
I know what you mean about the problem with the keyboard not working sometimes happens to my Surface 3 (Atom processor) but I don't have to go thru a full reboot, I just pull off the keyboard and put it back on and it works.
i5 / 256GB/ 8 GB RAM The first time I set up the machine, after purchasing the device yesterday It asked me log in with my windows account. Then it started adding features, and then the blue screen. Kernel_Security_Check_Failure. After that it rebooted on its own, it did not recognize the surface pro pen. When I tried manually adding the surface pro pen, noticed that the pen does not flash the light indicator for connecting the device. Got myself a replacement battery just to negate the fact that the battery must have run out, still no response. I then decided to check out the touch screen, and played a 2k youtube video in desktop mode, I again got driver power failure while it was plugged in. Looks like there are some genuine problems with device. I bought the bundle and I am out of $1600 and quite flustered. The Demo models were working quite well, at the store. I am a little surprised why My new device did not work. I will be returning the device tomorrow or at-least try a replacement.
Great no nonsense review. I have been using macbook pro from last 7 years. That works great but there are few software I use that still requires windows. I can bootcamp or use parallel but both options are not convenient. I also have ipad which is not good for media consumption due to IOS. I am thinking to let go ipad and surface pro to replace the tablet and also execute the processor heavy windows only software. But will still retain my macbook pro. Thoughts?
+Manmit Shrimali What about getting the Surface for your everyday light and non-light use, enjoyment and work, keeping the ipad for fun and portability and letting the Macbook pro go?
I think it has a few baby buggs in it, i'm sure it will be fixed pretty soon. What version do you have, Im planing to buy the i7 16gb ram version, it's coming out in November here in Sweden :)
I have the Surface Pro 3 i5 version and I love it. From the portability to the fact that I can remove the keyboard. It's has a rock solid build as well as a brilliant screen. The surface can do so much. The new Pro 4 is just to steep in price. I will wait till it goes down. I never had an apple because I am so integrated into windows OS that I would have to learn how to use apple but I'm sure it's super simple.
I'm thinking about what model of the Surface Pro 4 to get. If I watch RUclips videos, Netflix, do school work and maybe play a few games that aren't very demanding like League of Legends or CSGO, what model would be the best choice? I was thinking about the i5 with 4 gb of ram but I don't know if its worth it or not to pitch in an extra $300 and get the model with 8gb of ram.
Is the problem of connecting with the keyboard really bothering much for you? (Since I am gonna typing all the time and all the time important works, so its gonna really terrible if the keyboard loses its connection and then I have to reboot the system and lose everything. So that's gonna be a big problem for me)
+Vu Kim Anh i think the owner should contact the microsoft to exchange for that defactive keyboard. that issue of keyboard happened 3 yrs after my torture for the first surface RT they produced. the keyboard is really a high light. and touch pad works on my surface pro 4 in chrome without extension just like how it works in macbook! so smooth and very sensitive.
+Vu Kim Anh The keyboard is fine. He lacks pc knowledge of what Bluetooth connection means. It will take a min to connect to the system no matter how many times you connect or disconnect the keyboard.
NOT "rambling"! You sat and walked through the day to day use of and living with aspects of this computer. You inadvertently helped ME rethink buying the iPad Pro since I have the exact thoughts as yourself on it VS the 100% usability and diverse ways I can utilize the Surface by comparison. I wish it were 13 inches but otherwise, I LOVE a FULL operating system in a well build body. I sort of just watched you playing with it and found myself falling in love. With the SURFACE, not you:-)
The keyboard wasn't working at 4:49 because you were on a PIN log in, which only accepts numbers!
+Blank ᅚ I was cringing watching that part!!
+Blank ᅚ I felt bad, really bad
+Blank I gave up watching this after that bit lol
+Blank ᅚ yes I give up watching somebody making a review without knowing how the surface work..... simply sad
I don't think he realises that the kick stand goes almost flat.

Two things:
1) For the smooth scrolling issue, you have to disable pinch to zoom in the trackpad settings, before Microsoft adds a fix.
2) for resume: it's not lag, it's Windows that is supposed to resume only if you press the button or a key on the keyboard... It's just different from what you think!
Pin a browser shortcut for Amazon prime, or any wesite/service works great.

+Dominick D'Ottavio how do you do that
+Dominick D'Ottavio and yet the fan goes WHEEEEEE the whole time. horror
+brandon quintero if you're using chrome go to top right corner and click hamburger menu then click more tools and then add to desktop.
can u do the SURFACE BOOK 3 NOW??
hahahha he seemed so happy like a kid when he was talking about the eraser XD it was cute
thank u for the review!
@stephen armbruz, the problem is not the key pad... The problem is that you have a pin code therfore the device will only let you write numbers....
no the problem is with the type cover. numbers didn't work either. the video is just an example.
I have never had this happen to me as soon as i use the keyboard it works and i plug it in and out alot when i do art.
may i know what specs of Surface Pro you have? i5? i7? how many gigs of ram you have?
You have to type in numbers in the pin screen. That is why the keyboard won't type letters.
And also, thanks for the honest and original review.
it's as simple as this. if you want a laptop, get the macbook. if you want, or ever need a tablet, get the surface. So far I have been very impressed.
+Stephen Ambruzs why would you spend so much money on either product if you just browse the Internet and use office?
+Novashadow115 because that's not what I do. I use lightroom for photography work, Sony Vegas for movie editing, bit torrent clients, TCP/IP networking etc. none of which can be done on an iPad.
***** Not talking about what you do. You were recommending a product to Pedro who very clearly said he just browses and uses office. I am asking YOU, why would you recommend such an expensive product to Pedro who has basic needs
+Novashadow115 Because he's comparing it to a $1,000 plus macbook laptop. It's obviously in his budget and he likely values hardware and quality machinery.
fantastic review , the review that made me care about this channel!! You should try the surface pro 6 or 7 or the surface book maybe?
For those wanting to run Android apps on a Surface, AMIDuOS works brilliantly.
You can get a dock for more usb ports
+Hezekiah Domowski Yes, www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/productID.325725200
Keyboard is actually fine. You were trying to enter in a pin (which uses only numbers) with letters...That is why it wasn't working. lol
I am like you and switched from Apple to Windows. Tip for you that I had to accept. MacOS is MacOS. Windows is Windows. Do not bring MacOS expectations into Windows and vice versa....
Good point, but that's why I changed from a Surface Pro to a Mac.
What kind of theme are you using on Chrome there? That looks really useful!
Cool. Microsoft finally made a product that even an Apple user can figure out.
🤣🤣🤣
👍🤣
Is that the Teal Type Cover? Thanks! Loved the honest review ;)
+HawkMusician Yes, the teal version.
Thanks for this review! I finally decided to get Pro 4 in 2019 instead of Pro and Pro (2018) because it's cheaper and the upgrade from the newer models are not necessary for me.
How's it working for you?
Thanks! Finally a review about stuff people care about in a device other than throwing numbers about processor , rams and pixels
Nehal Naveen but that stuff is still important
I've heard the ""lost keyboard connection" is a security thing. If the surface is locked when you undock, it won't reconnect until you unlock the surface. You have to use the on screen keyboard. Apparently you can load viruses onto the keyboard, so this prevents someone from taking your keyboard off and then loading their own.
If you still want it off but load faster on startup. Add hibernate in your power settings. Plus it leaves you where you left off.
How great is the battery life? The reason I ask is because that seems to be the downside compared to a Macbook Pro.
+shawnthor I'm getting about 5-7 hours. I haven't timed it yet, but it's good enough for me at this point.
+Stephen Ambruzs just web browsing? watching videos i get a bout 3 hours on mine
+Jay illest ouch..
If you haven't already, setup Windows Hello. That way you never have to enter your password. It will recognize you're face and sign you in
it works great!
so all it will take my relative to get in my surfbook is put it to my face while im sleeping and then theyll be able to see all the porn sites ive visited huh? is that what you want?
or just use a photograph ... ;)
So someone can take a picture of me in front of the camera and log on?
David Ross that is exactly what I want
Great review, thank you so much for posting. Which model do you have by the way?
At 4:52 you cant sign in because you have set a pin-code. Watch closely as you type random. When you hit a number it appears on screen. Just as it would with any Windows 10 pin-code. Numbers only. (I know the video is old)
hi,witch would you pick for photo editing ! i have been mostly using a PC.and do lots of photography and then edit my photos on a lap top,but i would like to do more editing on the road!so i was looking at a MB pro or this! thanks vary nice review.
I would go mbp of you're used to Mac OS. Only buy the surface if you have a need for the tablet.
Go for Surface Book. It has a great screen. awesome battery life and it has a discrete GPU.
Stephen, provided the more recent Windows updates that have been released since you did your review, and firmware updates; have some of the quirky issues been improved/fixed?
''...On the apple- err, the Windows logo''
You just averted the third world war....
You have to adjust the mouse scroll in settings as they have made it so the track pad scrolls by line(s) or page.
This is very disappointing to me :(
If you see for this, any solution I will be more than happy?
Do you still need to worry about anti-virus, hackers, internet security as you would for a desktop PC? If yes, what is available?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the surface 4 now after using it just over half a year? still love it? any more pet peves you have discovered? I'm also about to leave my MacBook behind but wanna make sure I make the right choice for me :)
re: keyboard not responding from wake - If you're like me, you open the keyboard at the "second" hinge, leaving the keyboard at an angle. What normally works for me (short of reboot) is disengaging that second hinge (so that the keyboard lays flat) then look to see if the keyboard lights up. Once it does, you're golden.
+Stephen Ambruzs hi, just want to ask, hows the surface pro 4 perfomance so far right now? Im about to buy one too. Thanks in advance.
Turning off the screen and turning it back on brings it back if you lose the keyboard/mouse.
Looks like he desperately wants to use apps instead of programs.
Wow, the reflection on the screen looks so bright! Does it become an issue when using?
When he opened up chrome... How did he get his home tab to have all that stuff on it? Time and date, quick notes, notifications.
Is that a chrome app?
I'm just asking i am considering purchasing it. And cannot afford to lose my open programs.
if I consider only about taking class /lecture notes with maximum possible efficiency, which one is better among surface pro 4 and ipad pro? actually I want to buy devices keeping in mind the main purpose of its uses as academics. ...... so should I go with apple or windows devices?
Nice review mate. Thanks for making it. Are you still using this machine? Is it worth buying second-hand in 2019?
Which configuration are you using? I would also be curious to know how it fairs when it comes to battery life.
+David Mensah core i5 / 256 / 8GB
Thanks, the sweet spot for those looking for decent performance, storage and power consumption.
Hey, if you are a really into android/Google you should try out Amiduos by American Megatrends. It's a full android emulator, runs super smooth and you have the full variety of the Google play store apps. Hope you find this interesting ;)
i think from recent firmware updates....most of these issues have been resolved?
For the one USB problem... there is a surface dock that is $199.99 that connects to the charger, it includes charging, 3 USBs, an Ethernet slot, and a mini display slot.
Tip on the glitching on the keyboard, don't take it off...
I like that you actually experienced it first and tell us your perspective about it. Awesome review indeed!
Hi Stephen what color keyboard are you using and where did you purchase it?
19 November in Finland. i7 16gb 256gb is 2100. Ouch! Company is paying. Phew!
farnesbarnes Is your company paying ? :D !
That's not a touch keyboard. I don't think they make touch covers anymore. That's a type cover with a new island style keys.
If Amazon Prime app is not available, you can create a Tile Shortcut for Tablet and Laptop modes.
Is that blue or teal
What colour is that type cover, blue or teal?? two weeks left until the SP4 is sold here in Spain, can't wait.
Blue
BTW You can get bluestacks and run android apps on it.
Hi I was wondering what is your display color temperature? is it more on the cooler side or more on the warmer side?
I have the Surface Pro 3 i5 version and I love it. From the portability to the fact that I can remove the keyboard. It's has a rock solid build as well as a brilliant screen. The surface can do so much. The new Pro 4 is just to steep in price. I will wait till it goes down. I never had an apple because I am so integrated into windows OS that I would have to learn how to use apple but I'm sure it's super simple.
You should try Windows Hello. I'm a Mac user too and I would never go back to using a legacy OS, but Windows Hello is pretty cool.
How about doing a comparison between the surface pro 4 and the Wacom companion 2?
The reason it didn't work was because he needed to put a number pin in and he was typing letters
+Wajih Jaroudi The keyboard is Bluetooth. It takes a min to connect regardless. It's not because of his pin with what he was entering.
+Vu Kim Anh The keyboard is fine. He lacks pc knowledge of what Bluetooth connection means. It will take a min to connect to the system no matter how many times you connect or disconnect the keyboard.
+GamerOly15 But its not bluetooth.....
thats weird that they didn't optimize it for chrome as well. They want you to be in there ecosystem and you can not blame them for that.
With the SURFACE, not you:-)
Very nice quality video! Liked and subbed!
if your keyboard disconnects, you don't need to restart. just tap on the screen in the box, and a number pad will pop up to enter your pin
Very nice review. The ability to switch between tablet and pc mode is awesome. Gonna hand my ipad air 2 to my little brother now lol.
What keyboard color do you use, blue or teal? Otherwise show me where you buy it.
How can it start up properly if you keep opening and closing it!
That was a nice review -very informative and helpful. Thank you,
I was still wondering, witch tip of the kit is close to the original one,because.. i bought the kit and broke my original one.
