- Hi everyone! Welcome to another video!!✨ I hope u can draw along with me in this video and hopefully learn some new fun tips to fill your own sketchbook up! Alot has been going on in my life so its been busy in many ways, but as always I try my best to get yall some good quality content ^^😋🫶 main materials and socials will be in the desc.

I agree on the last tip cause I had a sketchbook that I HATED the paper to the point that I didn’t want to draw AT ALL and I took a break from it to see if that helped but I just ended up not drawing for a month so I kinda just threw in in my old sketchbook bin and went to my new shiny one in the corner :3 now I’ve had that sketchbook for 2 days and I’ve filled like 4 spreads 😂

I have a sketchbook like that and I recommend using it as a scrapbook instead! I’ve been drawing on other paper and then cutting them out and pasting them into the sketchbook as a spread! 😄 lets me use the sketchbook without having to use that awful paper!

One tip I have is making your own sketchbook from scratch! I'm about to finish my first semi good looking sketchbook, and the reason I always feel so happy about drawing in it was I made it from a dollar store book I gutted and sewed signatures of marker and mixed media paper into.
It took away the precious feeling but also gave me nice paper
what I do sometimes is cover an entire page in watercolour, and while it's still wet, I lift some of the paint with a tissue and draw what I see in the "clouds" (cuz the lighter colours look like clouds after lifting to me.)

i once was intimidated by starting the next page in my sketchbook, so i slapped a piece of steak ( that i had currently been enjoying ) down on the page, cleaned it off, and then decided “wow that stain mark looks like a dragon” and filled the page with dragon doodles
“steak juice stacey” pioneered the age of non-stop dragon drawings in my sketchbook, and i love that page now

pinterest isn't the worst idea for inspo but i encourage all artists to try and avoid ai garbage. not only are they not good references for anatomy if you're trying to casually learn anatomy while sketching, but they're also using other people's art to exist. please try to be as original as you can and make ur own art.
but this video is so cute and cozy. you're so knowledgable and insightful for such a young artist! all your tips are amazing and true/valid these have been passed around by many well seasoned artists before but you put them together so nicely and helpfully to break people out of sketchbook paralysis ~
Yeah, but honestly something I like to do is look at AI art because it helps me distinguish it from normal art. I can honestly tell AI from original 99% of the time, even in different styles!
I remember looking at flowers, and turn out it was ai lol
Another tip as someone who has been an artist for the past decade and took a year off from burnout, don" stress over your art, it will improve over time and have fun with your art, art is supposed to be fun, your way of thinking- kind of like writing your feelings out but in art form, if you ever feel burned out, just take a deep breath and relax, no need to stress over it but most importantly, HAVE FUN!! ( amazing video btw
Yesssss!!! Whenever I hate a project I keep erasing it and trying util I am happy with it, and it always works for me and also reminds me that life is about practice

During my exams I got my sketchbook for the study time before the exams. I had a blank page with a red blob and just completely transformed it!! It looks so pretty now 😘👏👏

I've always had such a complicated relationship with art. I love art and I love drawing, but I'd compare myself to other people so hard. I quit drawing at some point In 2022 and I've been looking for the inspiration to start up again. This video really helped ❤
I agree with the last tip. Tbh I usually am embarrassed of my own work and rip some art from my sketchbooks cause I want it to feel perfect. But personally, I think people should realize that all art is perfect. This whole world is made with art in many different/creative ways.

3:43 THIS!!! I struggled with drawing in my sketchbook bc I felt like every page needed to be perfect/complete and it led to pretty severe artblock but then I randomly started a secondary sketch book, it was a hand me down from my sister and in rough shape but I could draw freely in it. The limitations I had set in my mind weren’t there for my second book and it allowed me to be more free with my first bc the pressure to fill it was spread out
I tend to struggle with even bothering to use a sketchbook because I want everything to look super nice, so something that helped me was buying a sketchbook from Dollar Tree. It’s not the best quality and it has maybe 30 pages, but because it was so cheap I didn’t care about “ruining” it when I used it
I have whole pages of art study notes in it too lol

8:05 I have an oc that I’ve had since 2018. Her name is Lil Tiger and I know it’s a really dumb name, but I named her when I was 5 and I’m not changing it.
Collage is legit so much fun. I’ll throw whatever in sketchbooks tbh. I also draw or design ocs in sketchbooks a lot. Like a lot a lot a lot.

Idk why I decided to click on this video when I'm an aspiring pixel artist but this cutely reminds me of my friend who literally acts like a racoon and takes my trash especially my receipts because they mainly like looking what I bought and drawing it.. At one point they got tired of drawing mocha cakes🥲The drawings they make when they see my receipt is just them making fun of my mocha cake addiction😭

@@Derpy_eve I shriveled reading this. Like when I went to uni you were likely in Elementary school. I was already driving a car and had several years of work experience. I teach people your age nowadays, I think I very much can feel old considering that :D I get a wrinkle every time I see someone young post great art like yours. Also my 20s are fucking awesome (except for this weird time between 2019 and 2021, no idea what happened there. /j) so dont worry, there is still enough to enjoy beyond childhood
If you’re like me and you’re too scared to ruin a good sketchbook with random doodles, you can always use separate book like a used notebook from school. It takes off the pressure of ruining a good sketchbook plus you get use out of the unused empty pages in those notebooks

I have had semi- thick sketchbooks (my 1st one) and I think that if I add more watercolor or more sticky notes/ wrappers in, maybe it’ll be better? I also use washy tape to thicken things up as well.

I definitely need to get that water color set. Can you estimate how long your palette lasts before you need a new one? Also are you able to buy watercolor paint to fill the palette when you run out? I am kind of a painting noob but I have always loved watercolors way more than pencils and markers.

i've got a question, two, actually. what should i do when i want to draw but have no idea what to do? i don't know how to use references, so that's a good question as well; how to use and find references??
Here’s a small exercise I did in I believe elementary school during arts & crafts classes:
Put a pencil or ballpoint pen on a sheet of paper and let your tool of choice guide your hand in any direction (basically, start drawing - whether it will be a bunch of continuous straight line that crosses over itself in sharp shapes, or a squiggly line that makes for a more blobby crossing of lines - whatever you feel for in the moment).
Do it to a point where there’s many „blocks”, and set your imagination loose. What do you see? A chonky lion? A dinosaur with noodle arms/legs? The point is to not think so much when actually drawing, and then have fun with your creativity coloring in the „blocks” to make something!😁
@@wiktoriaj4329 the thing is that i have aphanstasia, i can't visualize and my imagination is basically non existent so it makes it a lot more difficult for me.
Thanks for the questions! First i suggest warming up before doing anything, so grab a scratch paper and make literal scribbles everywhere just to make your wrist movement feel natural. Once you feel ready, references make a good starting point for what to draw in terms of mundane objects or subjects. When you use references there's a lot you can take from them other than just "boom, person". Think of everything as shapes! what is a head? Circle, oval, SQUARE? only you can say! Don't stick too hard on exactly what you see but whats MOST obvious, like wide eyes or thin eyes, sharp jaw or square jaw, keep it simple. If you want to try something, look up a picture of sayy, a horse, and draw half of it, then look up something else to fill in the missing part, lets say a fish tail, and connect it however you can. BOOM fishorse :D Knowing you have aphanstasia, looking at photos and putting it on paper doesn't require much mind visualisation since what you draw is in front of you but you can also accomplish something cool by just mashin two photos together on paper simultaneously! I could say a lot more but for now If you'd like to try that then I encourage it! if it doesn't work, don't feel too down, everything requires practice! What matters is that you tried and accomplished even a small goal, and those build up over time! :) Very good question!!!
