@@paulgrimaldi5904 my point is that it's not the job of the Royal Navy to stop channel crossings, unless those crossings are of a military nature. It falls to Coastguard and Border Force. The ramp shortens the take-off run required by the F-35B. They can take off with full fuel and payload from QE class deck without the ramp, but the ramp allows other aircraft to land simultaneously behind the departing aircraft. The UK don't use CATOBAR for a number of reasons, and both systems have their pros and cons. There's no one right answer really.
Not FAA or RAF's fault. Building the two super carriers saddled the RAF with an aircraft they don't want or need in the shape of the F35 Bravo. The UK can't afford to equip both services with what they require. The first batch of F35 went to the RAF. Hence why that's what sails. None of this is needed to defend these islands.
All UK F-35s are under the control of 1 Group, RAF. Every RAF and FAA squadron is jointly manned by a mixture of personnel from both services. It provides far greater flexibility in the force, as airframes and pilots aren't tied to either land-/maritime-based ops.

All countries have a duty to protect their people and borders from outside threats . That is why we have an armed force . And a bit of a pipedream having a well resourced , efficient asylum system under the present government . And evidence suggests nobody has to be spotted in their flimsy boats ,they have A French then a British escort as they cross the channel ,without that there would have been many more tragic deaths .@@Orbital_Inclination
@@paulgrimaldi5904 Given the long history of immigration to the British Isles, from the Vikings, Romans, Angles, Saxons, citizens of our former colonies, etc, what's so wrong about modern immigrants from the Middle East? Is it because they're the wrong colour for you?
As an aside, the surname Grimaldi suggests that you probably have some immigrant blood in your ancestry, much like most other British citizens.
I thought the answer to the first part of your reply was obvious , centuries ago this country had a tiny population
and plenty of space , and have you not noticed this country has too many people now and cannot support so many as we have got today . and of course the usual obsession with colour when an objection to immigration is raised ,you raised the subject not me. what colour do you think people from the M/E are , they are not that much different than southern Europeans . and of course to stop me voicing my opinion out comes the Racist B/S ,it is so boring and doesn't really work anymore and I do have people of various colours in my family and we get on very well .

The 2nd best looking ship, so what is it with the Ramp thing? Does that side of the pond not use launchers like the USA?
The ramp shortens the take-off run required by the F-35B. They can take off with full fuel and payload from QE class deck without the ramp, but the ramp allows other aircraft to land simultaneously behind the departing aircraft.
The UK don't use CATOBAR for a number of reasons, and both systems have their pros and cons. There's no one right answer really.
Why is it not discussed how sea shy the current individuals are in the RN. the RAF has more sea days than the fleet air arm.
Where's the rest of the group?
UK has foolishly put all their cash into carriers and subs while left with 14 corvettes to
Patrol the entire coast!
8 jets ? If theres only 8 jets on this cruise then we should just have kept the ark royal and illustrious , i really hope theres more in the hangers , their designed to carry 40 aircraft.
8 F35B Lightnings can carry 32 meteor missiles that have a range of 200km
So a flight of 8 F35s from HMS Queen Elizabeth can shoot down 32 (non-stealth) fighter jets from beyond visual range without the enemy even knowing the Brits were there 😂
The Land Rover of the seas
In that it'll breaks down a lot ?
@@chriswalford9228 I see your great British pride showing there. We have to talk everything down don’t we.
Ex RAF here, why is it being towed, did they not manage to fix the prop shaft?
Tugs are standard practice for entering port
Looks magnificent
Did the ship run into anything or have any mechanical problems? Just asking??
Soon. Soon.
How many of them work? Do we have pilots for them? Will the Navy remember to remove the vent covers before take off? Questions questions........
Are the bookies taking bets on how far it'll get this time?
It's in the middle east already it left in September so it got that far

I wondered if it was the eastern Med.

Why and where are they going and what aren't we being told?
Back out into the north sea on exercise where she has been for the past couple of weeks. Very well publicized.
It’s now down by Qatar it got there pretty quick we sore it on Monday in Portsmouth and yesterday the ship finder said qatar
@@paulross1296 not according to the commenter below and also on the tracking device. Definitely middle east just off Qatar according to tracker.
Just wondering why the Carrier is showing ER on the bridge, surely that should be CR by now or am I missing something?
It's the cypher of the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, of whom the ship is named after. The HMS Queen Elizabeth will keep this symbol for as long as it is named as such.
A future HMS King Charles III would likely have the 'CR' cypher.
@@CobraEmergency You're wrong, because the ship is named in honour of a previous HMS Queen Elizabeth which was named after Queen Elizabeth 1st, the Tudor rose on the side of one of the towers gives the game away.
Yep. Queen Elizabeth the first ( don't have to use 'the first'). Henry VIII's daughter.
@Murdersville Ahh, that makes much more sense. Thank you! I'll be sure to refer to the Tudor Queen Elizabeth in the future when talking about this ship.
All fur and no knickers, a bloated carrier and a handfull of F35s.
Word on the street is we are deploying forces to Egypt,
Proud to be a British subject
Why two towers on the deck? Isn't it a waste of space?

Eight jets. Where are the other 30?
Let's hope the UK government as given our boys all they need. Kit and machinery wise. They don't normally
GOD bless and GOD speed.
Fantastic footage, makes you proud to see sights like that.
Glad you enjoyed it! Always happy to film the Queen Elizabeth-class.
If people arnt sure why the speedboats and police boats are clearing the way its in case any boats in the area have bombs on board.
As proud as I am seeing HMS Queen Elizabeth and all her finest, that is not a good looking design of an aircraft carrier.
I’m sure she will perform better than she looks.😮
God bless all who sail in her.❤
It's all subjective...I'd guess your partner thinks you're good looking but I also guess a lot of people think you're not!!...just sayin!! 🤷♂️
My home town, got a question is it normal for them to have fighter aircraft onboard while in port? I always thought that like the harriers they woukd collect then south of the isle of wight. Has this changed
There is a bit in the video description dealing with the aircraft on deck.
as someone who served as Assistant Public Relations Officer on a T23, what is normal doesn't factor in when there is PR and a photo shoot to be had.

Well one advantage of the f35 is that it has 2 fins per aircraft so it looks doubly “ impressive?” Maybe we should change the Americans parking / handling fees on deck ….
So the plod basically ram a small trawler out of the way, but ignore the rich-person catamaran?
Catamaran was outside the shipping channel, and hove-to.
Trawler was inside the shipping channel, and making way.
