    I really like the concepts here, usually people neglect atemi waza. Often when it is used, it's only employed as a distraction when entering. Using to aid in the transition of techniques seems very practical.

      Atemi in aikido isn't necessary at all, that's why it isn't a focus during aikido training. That doesn't mean it's useless within aikido. It's sensible to use atemi in the case of distracting when entering. It's also sensible to use atemi to transition between "normally incompatible" techniques. The goal is always to form a complete union with uke's energy so if it takes atemi strike to "force" uke into moving into a specific way, then we should use it.

    I enjoy watching the beautiful and effortless flow of these extended engagements. Would it be possible to likewise demonstrate their application applied in response to an advanced attacker who exhibited more realistic flow: for example, against a boxer's jab, which he is trained to withdraw immediately the instant after it is thrown, or better yet, in response to a classic 1-2 jab/cross? Please do not interpret this request as a snarky criticism along the lines, "Aikido doesn't work..." To the contrary, I know that can be devestatingly effective, especially at higher levels; but my background is in a different art in which the primary focus is on ma and irimi. So the advanced interactions between the two participants after that first entry are of less immediate interest to me. Thank you for this channel. Your dedication and intensity in training are an inspiration to any martial artist.

    Real conbat Aikido apart for joint locks and throws works with Pain . Lot of pain that your mind can not bare and you paralyse by pain . It requires great knowledge of presure point of the body. That was the Chiba's sensei Aikido .That are the secrets and is so hard to find a sensei to teach you .Is hard to find a sensei who accually knows these presure points and to master them you need to practice with a lot of different body types of ukens for a long time .So before talking about real fight and Aikido bare that in mind ... just my two sents

    It's all good for you (career or fitness routine), but do yourself a favor and ask yourself - will it save you in the world of anything real, like a capable fighter (both striker and grappler) of higher weight category that would oppose you on street? the sooner you ask yourself and act, the less destructive reality will be for you.

    • @michael.schuler
      @michael.schuler 4 года назад

      I hear you. (See my previous comment/request above.) But would you agree that the safest path of all, if possible, is to avoid the real fights you refer to altogether? From what I observe and understand, this latter is the path that the modern practice and philosophy of Aikido has at its goal. Whether this has strayed from first martial principle or not, perhaps does not detract from the quality of life benefit that most practitioners seek from time spent in this particular art. That said, it seems to me that even someone for whom more practical applications are of main concern can distill very useful elements and understandings to augment a broader range of practical techniques. People practice and benefit from martial arts for a number of valid reasons other than combat readiness in the modern world. For any who don't, your comment strikes me as completely valid, indeed.

    • @FreeSalesTips
      @FreeSalesTips 4 года назад +1

      The answer is yes, aikido will save you in the real world. Aikido doesn't rely upon the defender's strength. Aikido relies upon the skill of forming a complete union with the attacker's energy. This is the fundamental reason of why an aikido defender with lesser strength can control an attacker (whether grappler or striker) of higher strength. Those aikido defenders who have a weak skill of forming the energy union, those people will be fundamentally unable to redirect the attacker's energy.

      But it’s not made for a street fight. All the fancy stuff you see here is just people seeing where their skills will take them.
      Real combat Aikido is what you used to see on the first two seasons of COPS before the show got toned down.

      @@blockmasterscott all martial arts can be more brutal if required is throwing somebody towards the ground but giving them no room to turn out then broken neck but this is an art and deadly technique is not shown for obvious reasons my sensei often foiled robberies at the shop where he worked and his sensei used to start pub fights to test his students remember martial arts were originally different and more deadly but you are not allowed to teach the deadly stuff anymore

    Pretty, but ineffective against a real fighter... The uke is over compliant and is not resisting... It's just pretty forms as expected with Aikikai aikido... You need full resistance to know if your aikido really works under REAL pressure...

    • @towag
      @towag 4 года назад +2

      @Tai Chi Tube Sorry Tai chi Tuba, you are so typical and just as deluded as all the other "martial artist" that have never experienced real combat or combat sports where your techniques are tested against live resisting opponents... I do know because I've competed in boxing, judo and Tomiki aikido, so actually know the difference... The stuff this "6th dan" is DEMONSTRATING, is with a completely compliant uke... That why it looks pretty... I would like to see him do that with somebody who totally resists him... I KNOW that it would not look anything like that... In fact, it would not surprise me if his ass is handed back to him on a plate if it were to happen, which it won't as Aikikai aikidoka don't, or are not allowed to compete or enter the arena to fight... It was banned by their founder Ueshiba... The biggest mistake he ever made... THAT is why it is so ridiculed in the modern MA world... He should have listened to his student Kenji Tomiki...

    • @towag

      @Tai Chi Tube Yeah I've seen your channel and your " tai chi" ... LOL!!

    • @towag
      @towag 4 года назад

      @@youritelani6979 I don't have to... IF he were to put up a video with a live resisting opponent... That would impress me far more... This compliant stuff is pretty yes , but that's it... pretty... If he pays me to go to Japan, puts me up and looks after me, I'll make one with him.... No problem...Even at 67 years old!!

    • @towag
      @towag 4 года назад

      @@youritelani6979 Being sarcastic with someone who really knows the difference is not being constructive in your criticism of me, but only points out your ignorance in what you know of martial arts in general... Probably not much... By now, it's become glaringly obvious aikido is now a health system and has very little in common with the real thing... I do have experience in other martial arts, both Western and Asian and have actually used my skills in real- life working in the "door trade" part-time to earn money... This is a pretty DEMONSTRATION of "traditional" aikido, not an actual fight scenario... IT IS compliant.... THERE is NO resistance whatsoever... Why are you so blind to that fact? Either you are delusional as most are, who don't know or you are just a "fan" of this "6th Dan"... Although "talented" with a very good uke, he would not look so pretty with the real thing... I would put money on it!.... It will never happen as Aikikai ban their practitioners from competing in real matches... Its why Kenji Tomiki, one of Ueshiba's longest-serving students, broke away from the Aikikai to form a competitive style of sport combat aikido...He knew what Ueshiba was teaching as he became old was a soft form DESIGNED to be more for health rather than its original purpose ... Its basically a paper tiger art derived from its original precursor art of aiki jujutsu... This was the art I was taught in the Tomiki kata's numbering 174 techniques, as well as competing in randori shiai matches for over 18 years before going independent and teaching my own hybrid style using the Tomiki system as the basis.... That actually works and was tested by all & sundry who came along to the club I ran for 27 years...

    • @blockmasterscott
      @blockmasterscott 4 года назад +1

      What you said is very true. However, it’s not designed to go up against a real fighter. In layman’s terms what they’re doing is just having fun throwing each other around and not taking it seriously for combat.
      Combat aikido is just simple throws and joint locks. Nothing like the video.
      What you see here is like a boxer working out on a speed bag or jump roping. Exercises that work out the body and great for conditioning. And it’s fun.
      I had to edit this because I cannot type without making mistakes. Grrr....
