    The first video of yours that I watched was you, and a much smaller Pete, working on your 500x Rally Raid upgrade in your back yard. You now have progressed to working inside on carpet with an expert overseeing your work. Thanks Jenny! It did inspire me to replace a leaking fork seal on my 500x. Thanks Juan!

    While I don't indulge in adventure riding, I have upgraded the front suspension on my motorcycle - a 1985 BMW K100RS - with Race Tech gold cartridge emulators and springs, so I found this very interesting. A great tutorial for those that want to do upgrades/improvements to their motorcycle suspension. There was nothing like this for my bike! Great video. I've been watching you for years.

    Watching from Spain. I was thinking of getting another three hundred 2 stroke but after watching your video bought the Honda. I live 10 minutes from the TET trail and so far have enjoyed the bike. The only thing I don’t like is the pathetic suspension. Great video! Sir, it's been a long time since I saw any of your bike videos, the last time your little boy was on a electric bike & you had just
    did a lot of work on a beautiful little bike, the XT225. I wanted one & almost bought one but the guy had wanted more money
    that I was willing to pay but I've never stopped wanting one. You were prepping the XT for a longer trip on a Trail but I've forgot
    the name of it but I suspect you held your own on that trip! So now I'm back looking to buy again & the Rally version is what I
    want and here you are w/ the 300L so I'm now back w/ you. Didn't know you were still out here..... peace

    Minor point but when you show taking the damper rods apart you are using the spanner for the preload, you "should" ideally use the pin spanner for that, as wrenching against the preload mechanism "could" damage it, whereas using the pin spanner there is no chance of that. The pin spanner applies force against the outer housing of the assembly as opposed to the inner preload components.

    • @darrenolson1206
      @darrenolson1206 Год назад

      Got it. For those having problems here was my fix. When he is using the tool to drill the hole in the fork tube he was putting hard pressure on the tiny fork spring. This allows for the snap ring to have no pressure on it from the spring. This is far more difficult than you see. I drilled the hole. Then used the taller aluminum tool. I put the base of the tube in my abdomen and put the edge of the tool against the edge of my bench to compress the spring and used a dental tool to push out the spring.
      Also on the left fork the bottom cap screw spins. I used ratchet straps top and bottom to pull them apart so the internal part of the cap screw doesn’t spin. Doing this by myself. Hope this helps at least one person.

    • @jmo2752
      @jmo2752 2 года назад +1

      You can probably get away with the standard stand with the LEVEL 1 front and rear suspension, however, if you load the bike with luggage, then you might find it stands a bit too upright, especially on uneven or cambered surfaces... It's also worth getting their short side-stand anyway, as it is both stronger tubing, and comes with a much stronger spring too. Plus means you can always fit a side-stand shoe for soft terrain without the bike being too upright.

    • @jmo2752
      @jmo2752 2 года назад

      Yes, very similar - although the G310GS fork and corresponding upgrade kit is a simpler design, and everything fits in the left leg on those bikes, so you only need to replace the top cap on the right leg - and there is no need to split the legs apart unless you also want to replace the seals.

    • @jmo2752

    • @jmo2752
      @jmo2752 2 года назад +2

      There is a huge difference. The stock damping cartridge is tiny in comparison - you have three times the volume and adjustable damping, together with spring preload adjustment on both legs (there is now a spring in each leg, not just one).
      If you simply put a stiffer spring in the right hand fork it will overwhelm the already soft damping in the stock cartridge, leading to a pogo-stick like action when it rebounds... adding thicker weight oil will slow it down, but then make the small bump reaction feel harsh.
      If you're going to spend any money on these bikes, then do a proper job - they are worth the investment.

      Cost. The damper cartridge is the expensive bit and stock only has a single spring in the other leg.

      @@delukxy the fork lowers and axle [connecting them] work as ‘whole’ - even high-end completion USD forks often use this format these days, as do almost every mountain-bike fork, saves weight and adds simplicity.

    Would this instal be basically the same for any cartridge kit on the 300l?

    • @user-se7vt5ow4e
      @user-se7vt5ow4e 5 месяцев назад

      The YSS fork kit requires removal of the fork lugs. You will need a torch to heat the lugs which are loaded with lock tight. Also there is a grub screw that will have to be drilled out to be removed. If I had it to do over again I would have bought the RR kit.

    I think you put the seal in upside down . I thought that on all oil seals the spring goes on the inside facing the oil . I have never put a oil seal on with the spring facing away from the oil . Will you check this out and make sure the spring of the seals shouldn't be facing the oil .
