Fun fact. The wires and stuff in the doctor was the entity punishing him for not cooperating. Which means the doctor was given every opportunity to torture people for all eternity, and went so far that an ELDRITCH HORROR had to physically punish him for going too far.
I solely believe Herman is the killer that truly frightens the Entity (if any) next to Myers, just due to his lack of restraint and lust for power alone.
Knowing the entity and Herman it was probably mad that Herman was either keeping them alive for way too long in the trial doing full experiments on them or that the doctor was too effective in his methods and completely drain them of any hope that it needs as part of its diet
I think the perfect way to some up what makes The Doctor so interesting as a character is, strangely, a quote from Batman Arkham Asylum, “I believe he is quite sane. Just evil.”
@Miguel Messina Michael in the movies is like the devil incarnate like Loomis says when he talks about him having the devil's eyes. He's completely sane, just lacking any sense of morality---pure evil. I want them to add Loomis so badly as a survivor in a cheap DLC like they did with Ash from Evil Dead. I love the Batman-Joker relationship they have in the films.
@Miguel Messina the Heath ledger joker wasn’t really insane, or pure evil, he had a MUCH, greater plan, but I’m not that eloquent with words, but yeah Michel is definitely the greatest story-wise slasher ever, clearly not the strongest, but definitely the best written
I remember someone pointing out that the entity might be limiting the doctor in his ability to torture that if he was given total freedom his more would be way worse then just frying a survivors brain.
This is canon; the torture implements on his face were placed by the Entity because he was uncooperative, meaning he didn't sacrifice them, just tortured them to death.
@@crypt5129 so did I. I’m like bro I swear ever since the beginning I’ve only heard the theory that he put the torture trinkets on himself and it honestly makes sense.
The doctor is also one of the least cooperating killers in the game. He hates being in the entities realm because he can’t experiment on survivors himself and is forced to play by the entities rules. Some of his face gear came from torture from the entity.
@@viniciusgabriel10 most likely. Originally, killers made pacts with the entity to join its realm to satisfy the need for slaughter and death, so they’re probably conscious. This was the original lore before we got all the stuff about killers hating it there and blah blah blah convoluted stuff, but it probably still holds up at least a lil bit
@@ryanhurd9649 I think pyramid head is there to punish the entity, because he tears literal holes through its realm, and killing the survivor like you said starves the entity of its substance and food "aka fear and hope"
Absolutely, I just fell in love with just how irredeemably evil he was compared to the rest of the cast back then in mid 2017 (and probably is still the most evil)
What really makes him eerie is his lore and some of his skin descriptions imply he willingly put himself in the restraints he wears. At least the man’s not a hypocrite if he puts himself through the treatment he put others through.
The Doctor's menu and chase music also represent the psychotic and powerful nature of Herman Carter as well. I've seen some people say they don't like it too much, but I think it's absolutely perfect. The low electronic humming under the surgical-sounding beats make his theme scary as well as headache inducing in a way. It feels mechanical yet human, but the human aspect of it takes only a small aspect of the theme. It makes the doctor even scarier, because he has a mostly human appearance, but mentally, he's nothing more than a mechanical monster.
All of the design with music included just all fits together so well. It’s genius even haha The first time I heard the doctors new terror radius music I couldn’t believe it... it was genuinely fear inducing lol like I got goose bumps and my heart started beating faster and it caused anxiety even... I was waiting to see what corner he’d come around from and all I could concentrate on was that *dreadful* music. *Dread* from a certain distance was what it made me feel I think? That sort of swaying of the pounding beat in the distance but then you know he’s getting closer by the pick up of other instruments in the song and then the pace picks up and then it goes on and off tune... just brilliant. Edit: it’s intentional and chaotic. The doctor thrives in causing fear and panic (the state humans are most easily controlled in, like herding sheep with a dog) and how his power works along side his intentions with that music? Honestly give the people who made these design choices an award lol. My favourite reaction video is Ohmwreckers video where he first ever hears the doctors music for the first time. Sorta was like my reaction? Just 👌🏻 perfect for his Character anyway lol I can’t praise it enough! Haha I forgot what it’s called when you have music that has two different sounds but I watched a video that explained horror music really well and why it makes people gasp and tense up to certain weird sound/pitches and stuff like that. It was a really interesting video and helped me really appreciate the work out into Herman Carter’s music.
Another thing that sets him apart from most killers, most other killers just want to kill you for one reason or another. The Doctor wants you to suffer excruciating pain and agony until you physically can't feel anything anymore, THEN he kills you because you are no longer useful to him. It's not the kill he desires, it's the torture leading up to it.
I think the most terrifying thing about the Doctor, is actually the constantly open eyes. If he used to do this when he was in the normal world, imagine being constantly forced to watch in horror as he ‘treated’ you, and he would watch in pleasure to your torment. It was a sadistic game of staring contest, except one enjoyed watching your eyes dry out from the constant burns of electricity.
In a cut scene he we see he does that to a "Patient" but to make it worse he also shoves a electrical wire in the poor persons eye meaning not only is the "patient" foced to have there eyes constantly open but to also have there eyes permanently looking in one direction
I may be saying something a little controversial, but the U.S government probably commits war crimes and acts of terrorism all the fucking time, and they'll never get punished for it like they should. Saying this as an American btw...
Amazing video. I'm a Doctor main, and was aware of the Yang Yongxin and MKULTRA influences, but wasn't aware just how much they were built into his character (Feng being his associated survivor now makes a terrifying amount of sense) or just how horrifying Yang really is.
Despite being a hospital that supposedly treats "internet addiction", many people were sent in by their parents not because of internet addiction but just because of their child wouldn't obey them and the chinese parents didn't care what kind of pain the kids had to go through, they were promised with kids that would obey them when they are treated.I would be 90% sure, the parents never regret their decision. Yang Yongxin has never got any punishment for all this because you can't the latest law to review a case from before when it isnt illegal. He was an outstanding doctor for publishing 100+ thesis per year because he got valuable results from unethically "treating" his patients.
Doctor is my favorite killer character-wise because, for me, he is the incarnation of pure evil, even more so than Myers ( again, personal opinion ). I mean sure Myers wants to kill purely because he does, but that's one thing. Now, horribly torturing and disfiguring your victims purely to satisfy your morbid curiosity and sadistic desires... Ohoho, love that. Now that's evil! His attempt at manipulation when he got found out was admirable too.
I wouldn’t say evil, I don’t believe in such things, but definitely low empathy abilities and very scientifically driven. Love seeing how far some killers go.
Michael is very much evil but lacking any human attributes and the doctor is the same evil but now very much attached to humanity which is arguably more unsettling as he's not just the concept of evil but of man's evil and I think his story really shows. It's upsetting to think of evil as a part of the human condition and not some separate entity entirely. I think the doctor really brings that particular horror of human evil fourth.
Myers is supposed to be "pure" evil as in he hasn't been influenced or corrupted by anything else. He doesn't feel fear, joy or anything. He has no inhibitions holding him back nor anything particularly driving him other than a need to kill. He also kills seemingly at random and no one really knows why. Myers isn't tempted into the Entity's realm nor tortured into obeying it the same as many other killers, he was pulled in and just sort of acted on his usual instinct. Doctor is evil in the sense he is a fully aware what he is doing is wrong, doesn't care, and he enjoys it. However doc isn't a robot who runs solely on the desire the kill the way Myers does. Doc has a goal of gettony results for his insanity experiments on the mind and he is very much motivated by his own personal bias' and ego. Carter knows he's very intelligent and is proud of that fact to a fault. It's heavily implied that he doesn't mind being in the Entity's realm as it allows him to experiment but he dislikes the Entity telling him to do it due to his ego (I believe that's why it forced his equipment onto his face as a punishment),
I think the doctor is more like Professor pig because both of them are willing to torture and this figure to learn more about the human body and mind both of them are experts in the medical field with Professor pig being an excellent surgeon and the doctor being a psychiatrist
Yeah, gotta agree. As a Trickster main Doctor lore wise still kinda seems like better Trickster. It's weird, I hate K Pop but Trickster is one of my favourite killers. And even if he doesn't have much depth, I do still love his lore story. I'm a sucker for the mad artist type and just loved the morbid creativity of using his victim's screams in his music. I just hope he gets more depth in a tome someday soon. But even then, it'd still take a miracle to overtake the Doctor. Lore wise, Herman really is my favourite killer in the game.
@@Spyrotastic141 yeah I love em both, trickster I prefer gameplay wise and for lore I’d say Spirit is my favourite as she is this vengeful husk of the girl she once was
@@rafaelz6211 While I love Spirit, I have a big problem with her lore. She wasn't deserving to enter the realm - other killers entered the realm when they became 'too' despicable, but Spirit just... asked. Wraith was a comparatively good person, but still ripped out a guy's spine. Hag might be a victim too, but she is nontheless a cannibal. Did the Spirit kill anyone? AFAIA, no.
@@silverhawk4491 I don't necessarily think it's a problem. The Entity isn't bound by arbitrary rules, it can do what it wants within the limits of its power. It saw more potential in Rin than her father, so it took her instead. Plague also never killed anyone directly, Legion only killed one guy, and Blight was a survivor before he came back from the void as a monster.
To me, the scariest part is that I literally feel like there's no counterplay to his massive burst than to just be lucky enough to be far away from him.
There really isn’t other than hiding in lockers, but that gets countered by Iron Maiden. I don’t know if survivors get a heads up when I charge the big power surge, but I feel they should. I know he’s frustrating to fight against, but when my other option are The Pig or Ghostface… there are times where I just want to have fun, he’s very fun to play as.
@@droideka1890 you get a sound que that he is using his full power shock but it gets more faint the further you are from him, but it is hearable if you listen close enough
For years, after reading the Nurse's base lore, I had always considered her to be the single scariest killer based on her sheer realism. Not the tome though. That can shuffle off to the rear basement hook. Having to deal with the worst parts of humanity, and be abused while doing so, then just snapping. This video, with all the extra information about The Doctor now has him tied with the Nurse on my scary rankings. Thanks.
@Miguel Messina true, but someone like Gacy is what you'd call an extremely rare case compared to finding a psychiatric carer that is almost as bad as their patients.
definitely agreed. nemesis will make you suffer a little due to the effects of the T-virus, but killing you is his main goal. the doctor will ensure that you will repeatedly suffer through torture, fueled with electricity and pain, and will make sure that your body and mind is completely gone before he even thinks of ending your life. i'd rather just let hag take my kidney.
Visually I’d say Nemesis is scarier than Doctor as you can hear his loud footsteps, showing that impending doom is approaching. However Doctor will practically have you begging for him to kill you as his torture methods will be too much to handle. At least Nemesis will just stomp on your skull and call hit a day
I remember my first round against the doctor since I was new to the game I didn't really know what his power was. I was in a chase with the doctor and then a hallucination appears infront of me so I assumed oh this guy must be able to teleport so I turned around and you don't understand how scared I was when I got downed.
I’m sure the Doctor would be smart enough to anticipate the Survivors would try to go for his eyes, so he’d make sure his eyes would be most protected against
I've always known the Doctor was based off a real Chinese doctor, but I didn't know the extent or how he still operates today. This is the first video of yours to genuinely send a chill down my spine with how real it seemed.
@@dp4752 it’s really not, because it’s so easy to realize, for NT people, that games aren’t real. These killers are fictional, they killed fictional people and at the end of the day you can turn the game off. MKUltra is reality. It happened, and we don’t know if it’s still happening. You could be taken by the CIA tomorrow and exposed to LSD for 173 days, like they did to one unlucky patient. THAT is more terrifying than any game.
I love the doctor’s play style. I play him in a chase heavy way, never staying near hooked survivors and always hunting the next person I find. Nothing really encapsulates my playstyle more than a quote I always find myself saying whenever a survivor gets unhooked when I’m in a chase…. “Don’t worry, I’ll just find you later”
Doctor's pretty addicting because of this, I agree. His playstyle is a lot of fun with how you have a power to get people into a chase (Static Blast) and then during the chase it's often not a problem if it takes a while to down the survivor because 1. mors shocks means more madness and 2. static blast is recharging as you chase. Madness 3 also prevents most actions, and forces survivors to show themselves to snap out of it. (so even more Intel) Doctor games are generally not won by being ultra-efficient with your chases (especially if survivors drop pallets early) but instead you win because you find(static blast) >shock>stall+find(madness 3) and all of these are things survivors are forced to interact with (unless they hide in a locker all match in which case, pray he doesn't have whispers) Doc is one of the scariest killers to go against imo; not because he's super spooky(even though he's probably the scariest in that sense too with his unnerving chase music and creepy laugh, but we all get used to that) but because he's incredibly hard to avoid; a doctor running Distressing (especially in combination with Whispers) is almost guaranteed to find you; and when he does he'll usually put you in madness 3 and/or down you, then when you're in madness 3 you have to let him find you again (ie, risk being downed or put back into madness 3) before being able to go back to doing a gen. A good Doctor, especially on a small map, can be a terrifying opponent because he will not give you a moment of rest; he's always chasing somebody and has at least 1 survivor in madness 3 at any moment (which is really big when he has someone hooked/killed as well) and you're basically fighting against the clock to get your objectives done before he begins getting kills.
@@captainnyet9855 i really love the feeling of power and control you have when playing doctor. Usually when playing killers it's more stressful because you have to down that survivor fast so gens wont fly fast but with doctor you can chase while pressuring other survivor with static blast. He's such a blast to play
From what I've heard regarding the Doctor, he might be based on a guy who advocated and used ECT as a “cure” for “Internet Addictions”, troubled children sent there by their own parents. (Which correlates well with Doc's corresponding survivor being Feng Min) As of today, his facility has been shut down, but whether he did it to lure in money, firmly believed he was doing the right thing or just enjoyed the whole thing is unknown.
This is incredible! I've been looking forward to whatever video you might have in store for The Doctor and you did NOT disappoint. You really went above and beyond for this video. Touching on not only his original lore (not the lore in-game) but also Ascendance, his real world inspirations, his visual design, his animations, hell even his addons! It's so refreshing to see The Doctor (and all of the details that make him up) given the attention he deserves instead of just reading off his in-game lore and calling it good. Amazing work.
My list of the evilest Killers in Dead by Daylight 1: Herman Carter "The Doctor" is the top number 1 because like you said, he's a sadist power-driven maniac who will stop at nothing to feel more powerful than inferior people 2: Michael Myers "The Shape" is a murderer and is considered evil because he kills for no reason, he just kills because he just feels like it, evil is inside the shell of a man 3: Freddy Krueger "The Nightmare" used to do some bad things to kids and then got burned by the parents out of revenge. But then he came back for revenge by becoming a dream demon, he got what he deserved for what he did to those kids but he wants to make them pay for burning him 4: Anna "The Huntress" is what I think might be evil because she just kills people as a sport for hunting 5: Danny "The Ghostface" just murders because it's fun, despite that the iconic Ghostface is a symbol of someone's vengeance 6: Ji-Woon Hak "The Trickster" kills not just for fun but for attention and fame, he records the screams of his victims to his music 7: Caleb Quinn "The Deathslinger" kills either because he sees Survivors as a bounty or because he's enraged with vengeance but every time he hits a Survivor or damages a pallet, wall, or gen he just chuckles and laughs 8: Kenneth Chase "The Clown" kills because as a friend told me, he does it because he likes feeling the life of someone at his grasp. Aaaaaaaaaand because he has a fetish for fingers 9: Amanda Young "The Pig" murders people because she believes they aren't redeemable, she is a misanthropist. Despite the fact that Jigsaw was teaching her that the games he makes are a way to punish their sins and crimes so they may be worthy of redemption but Amanda went against his true goals and just kills people because she believes they aren't redeemable 10: Pyramid Head "The Executioner" is not a person, he or she is a monster manifested from the need for punishment. He kills because he wants people to pay for their sins and crimes, you said in a video of his that you like to think he came to the Entity's Realms because the Entity was misusing a part of Silent Hill for its own needs and Pyramid Head punishes the Entity by killing Survivors through cages, tearing trenches on the Realm's floor that seem like blood, and kills the Survivor on the ground instead of hooking them
I don't think Huntress deserves so high a spot on the evil list, she really doesn't understand what she's doing because her mind hasn't been able to develop due to her lack of parenting. Clown would probably work better in that spot, he does like torturing much like the Doctor does and I'm pretty sure his torturing is sometimes sexual in nature (the guy literally licks fingers and has VHS Porn). Pyramidhead is more of a construct of guilt from Silent Hill so I dunno if he's morally culpable or not. I feel like Kazan Yamaoka deserves a spot somewhere on this list too.
@@poissonsumac7922 Yeah lots of the ones up top don’t deserve to be called evil. Freddy is the only one up there with doc, everyone else just kills you. Which isn’t so bad.
@@poissonsumac7922 When you’re dead, you’re dead. That’s it. But dying? Pain? That’s long and unnecessary suffering, and you’re still around to feel it. Behavior seem to do a pretty good job of capturing the spirit of that Chinese doctor and how the CIA thought he went too far. Just like how the Chinese government thought that other doctor went too far you know it's bad when they care about human rights issues.
One of the most terrifying things about the doctor is that the trial isn’t even the worst he could do. If he was really allowed to go to town on the survivors he would keep them trapped on the trial for as long as he possibly could. One could only imagine what horrors the doctor would come up with given an endless number of subjects, every conceivable tool, and an infinite amount of time to make merry hell.
"What the Hell did he do?" See, this is one of the best ways to make a character, or a setting of some sort terrifying. Give vague hints as to how horrible they/it was/were/is. Perhaps even a little peek behind the curtain, and then let the audience fill in the rest themselves. Sure, you *could* go into explicit detail, but typically, the audience will tend to imagine things way worse than anything you could write yourself.
5:00 I have to disagree. If I remember right, Carter (pre-The Doctor) experimented on himself. He experimented to connect the consciousness of himself and his "patients." This can be found in his Notes add-ons. I don’t think he was forced into the headgear, I think he put it on willingly. Which, to me, is much more terrifying. If he is willing to do that to himself then you must wonder what he is willing to do to others. And he laughs and smiles the entire time while he inflicts pain to others, just like he did to his subjects. Edit: On the headgear, I meant that metaphorically he willingly put the head gear on. He chose pain from the Entity if it meant further experiments.
I find a fantastic yet horrifying piece of his design is his weapon. Rather than using a blade like most other killers who intend to make them bleed out or cut something important and make them easier to catch and finish them off, Carter uses a gruesome blunt bat. A bat which inflicts a lot more pain and is much less efficient to fatally wound. It just sends shivers down my spine thinking of those bats.
And one detail is his cooldown after hitting a survivor, instead of cleaning or inspecting the weapon like every other killer, he slams the bat on his hand as if it represents how intimidating he is, maybe he even did this while working, hearing that bat from across the hallway or even worse, outside your door.
Ughhhh, the Doctor. An absolute monster of a human being. I've been questioning recently, because of a relationship I've been having and the bad moments that have come to dominate it, and one that will most definitely come to an end soon, whether I am a monster myself, but I take heart in knowing that at least I'm not like Herman. Downplaying ones own flaws by exaggerating the obvious ones in others is not good, though, so I should be mindful still of being a bad person. Thanks Pixel Bush, for once again bringing a good piece of DBD lore to RUclips! I wish you a good day, along with all who see this comment!
he was the first killer to jumpscare me and he got me BAD. when i first played the game i didn't know that the illusory doctors didn't have a terror radius so i just ignored it, got clocked in the back of the head, and flung my mouse on the ground which resulted in me getting easy downed.
I’m speechless. Amazing. This is a masterpiece of a video. I was captivated and interested trough out the whole video and the ending was satisfying and conclusive. I genuinely love your videos and really wish more people knew about you. This is such high quality content I’m amazed at how fast you can make these. Absolute gold.
I love doctors design so much, that along with his little laugh. I’m a doctor main and I was drawn in by those exact reasons, but he’s been my main for about 4 years now.
for my own personal, the doctor's archive is my favorite so far. there is nothing more terrifying than actual history, and incorporating it into the lore gives the characters a sense of realism. and... maybe i guess... he wants true freedom to such an extreme degree since, according to his timeline, he would have grown up during the Jim Crow laws era... and you know... as a result of being oppressed, he yearned for more freedom. and he ignored the rules because rules are frequently written by a group of individuals to support that group. the more oppressed, the greater need for freedom, and the more he needed to rise to the top of the law. perhaps this was why he tried so hard to convince himself that he was the best. thx to make this video! and i wish you much motivation for everything you want to do! take care! sry for my broken grammar haha
That is such a good interpretation on Doctor, I've never thought of that. Even if he were abused and discriminated upon, I still truly believe deep down he always was a monster with restraints of society holding him from acting out, only when those restraints were laxed he could be in his element, truly free.
@@MamaBearKS it's just my guess and as I said the more oppressed a person is, the greater the demand for freedom, and in the doctor's case, his liberty was pushed too far. He was terrified of authority, I mean laws (you can see his archive, there was a moment he hesitated), and his fear transformed into fury, which drove him to act violently. yea, he's a real rebel and it's just like...human. anyway, I do not condone his actions.
@@darkerkuro I just love how you thought of this, I never even began to piece those two events in line with Doctor. Honestly your interpretation could be the foundation of Herman's lore if we were to get more insight into him, but I'm still thankful and love his lore as is. Honestly this might just be my head canon for him.
@@MamaBearKS That's very nice of you to say hahaha. Also, I don't want him to be a good person or anything else. I just like him as he is, because the desire for freedom is the basis of being human. But, for the time being, we can only look forward to his next lore, assuming there are any more to come in the future.
You could give yourself nightmares over what kind of experiments the doctor performed before the night of *REDACTED* . He might have reperfomed the brain swap experiment... with successful results, maybe he decide to see if you could control a vegetative person through sheer electrical spasims like some toy for him to break again, or perhaps he decided to connect a series of people to a machine and have each persons brain waves control the electrical output of the others, watching the deathgame experiment play out, seeing who could last longest and with what mental trauma. But one thing for sure, Dr. Herman 'The Doctor' Carter was a man who, when given a wrench, would bash a man's head in to see if they pissed their pants upon dying, knowing full well they had peed before entering the room.
Due to my 5 month long summer job I haven't had my computer and so haven't been able to enjoy DBD. Found your channel while looking for something to fill that DBD craving and your videos are well explained and show references and quotes to what you're talking about at the time. These videos you put out are impressive and I look forward to seeing more past videos and content yet to be created. Keep up the good work :)
I love how (almost) every character analysis video you make makes me appreciate the subjects in them a good deal more, even if I already loved them! (i.e, Kazan.)
One of the most interesting things about the Doctor's alterations is the implication that many of them are self-inflicted; the summaries for his cosmetics certainly hint at this, while also connecting him to other horror properties (The Copper Synapses headpiece from Test Subject 1 is almost a perfect recreation of the infamous headpiece from Martyrs, the torture porn movie where a cult tries to torture women into a state of enhanced pain nirvana so they can say what lies beyond death, while a lot of his other cosmetics bring to mind Pinhead and the cenobites and other mad scientists throughout history). Most other killers, their disfigurements are evidence of their punishments by the Entity, of what lengths it had to go to to twist these people to its will. On the Doctor, it's mostly just him increasing his own power, making it so he doesn't have to depend on a machine or a lab to experiment. He can just electrocute people at will. The Doctor is also probably the first person in the Fog who was 100% happier to be in the Fog than he was out of it (Michael's probably frustrated the people he kills don't stay dead), and I think that opened the door for BHVR to really explore what could make a person think a life of killing for an Eldritch spider-god could be better than the world they lived in? Maybe they and their people were dying of a plague and begging the gods to save them? Maybe they were a victim of anti-Irish discrimination and a lifetime of capitalist use and abuse that made escaping from both systems preferable? Maybe they just wanted their little brother back? In any case, the Doctor was our first real foray into what makes killers and survivors tick and his experiment is one that proved successful.
I've always understood Doctor's headgear as not something someone put on him, but as something he did to himself simply to get and understanding of the feelings his torture inflicted. In his Overcharged headgear cosmetic, the flavor text makes it sound like the headgear was made specifically so the Doctor could better use his powers. On the other hand, reading the text of his add-ons, it seems it may be a device the Entity forced on him for some reason or another so he would have to "share in his patient's madness"
Doctor is in my opinion hands down the scariest killer in dead by daylight. He is a true psycho that takes delight in torturing and experimenting on those around him. Also I love doctor game play #DOCTOR MAINS
i've known about that chinese doctor for a few years now after seeing a video taken outside of children screaming from inside his hospital, had no clue the doctor was inspired by him
I remember listening to a Lazy Masquerade video a while back about the true case behind the doctor, I had assumed that he was based off of him and looking back into the Archives- his lore seems to be so so similar to that of who he was based off of, in the way he was using the electro convulsive therapy on that first victim we see as the police bust in, the interrogation scene where he signs that document, and then that gruesome final close where we see Herman turn into that monster. Some really sick stuff, beH took it to the extreme and I still love it to this day
I love playing the Doctor for the most, and as a concept. My big issue that prevents me playing him more is my abysmal ping that makes it so hard to land his Shock Therapy.
A mad scientist that laughs when he does his experiments no remorse and has the face and body horror to go with it. Yes the doctor is one of the scariest killers in the game. Great video subbed
this is why most survivors hate going against a good doctor. because the doctor has more control over a game than most people realize. Once a doctor main or someone whos playing as doctor realizes that you can control the match, or at aim the fate of the game in a direction, you can use this to make survivors make mistakes.
My leg is twitching and my hands feel numb just from watching this medical horror is terrifying and that facts that people like the doctor exist and that thing like mk ultra go unpunished is terrible and makes my skin crawl
After hundreds of hours of DBD, doctor is still the scariest killer for all the reasons you listed. I work in behavior modification myself for my work (but ethically, never using electroshock or any physical punishment) and if you saw the stuff that medical professionals did in the 70s that is public knowledge, you will know the doctor is a very real person. Amazing video, you definitely earned a new fan.
Medical horror is scary, imagine having your brains literally fucking fried like toast, body parts chopped off, the thing that makes you, you being cut into two pieces, making it harder for you to function; imagine having your eyes pryed open, your bones broken, going through constant unbearable pain from being shocked constantly Utterly terrifying

Wait, are the killers still conscious after they become Entity's hunting dogs?
@@viniciusgabriel10 most likely. Originally, killers made pacts with the entity to join its realm to satisfy the need for slaughter and death, so they’re probably conscious. When I was new to the game doctor was the killer who made me the most uncomfortable
Absolutely, I just fell in love with just how irredeemably evil he was compared to the rest of the cast back then in mid 2017 (and probably is still the most evil)
Same, he's terrifying😟
He still is for me
What really makes him eerie is his lore and some of his skin descriptions imply he willingly put himself in the restraints he wears. At least the man’s not a hypocrite if he puts himself through the treatment he put others through.
I believe it was said that he did that to decide if it was good or not, to see how well it would work
The Doctor's menu and chase music also represent the psychotic and powerful nature of Herman Carter as well.
I was so happy when they gave him unique music. Never been a huge doctor player but I fucking love his the music that plays for him.
I hate his menu music, but i know that its perfect for him
All of the design with music included just all fits together so well. It’s genius even haha
The first time I heard the doctors new terror radius music I couldn’t believe it... it was genuinely fear inducing lol like I got goose bumps and my heart started beating faster and it caused anxiety even...
Haha
I forgot what it’s called when you have music that has two different sounds but I watched a video that explained horror music really well and why it makes people gasp and tense up to certain weird sound/pitches and stuff like that. It was a really interesting video and helped me really appreciate the work out into Herman Carter’s music.
Listen to the terminator T-800 music theme. Very creepy too.
The theme is also very loud and empowering

Amazing video. I'm a Doctor main, and was aware of the Yang Yongxin and MKULTRA influences, but wasn't aware just how much they were built into his character (Feng being his associated survivor now makes a terrifying amount of sense) or just how horrifying Yang really is.

Iron Maiden:
My time has come.
I also agree with you the doctor is more evil than Michael MyersHe reminds me of professor pig from the DC universe
As much as I love trickster and his over the top style, doctor does the mad uncontrollable high profile character a lot more realistically in the lore

@Miguel Messina true, but someone like Gacy is what you'd call an extremely rare case compared to finding a psychiatric carer that is almost as bad as their patients.

@@unclesback8101 Exactly. But with Doctor? You’ll lose the last remaining sanity that you have left before he kills you.

(so even more Intel)
Doctor games are generally not won by being ultra-efficient with your chases (especially if survivors drop pallets early) but instead you win because you find(static blast) >shock>stall+find(madness 3) and all of these are things survivors are forced to interact with (unless they hide in a locker all match in which case, pray he doesn't have whispers)
Doc is one of the scariest killers to go against imo; not because he's super spooky(even though he's probably the scariest in that sense too with his unnerving chase music and creepy laugh, but we all get used to that) but because he's incredibly hard to avoid; a doctor running Distressing (especially in combination with Whispers) is almost guaranteed to find you; and when he does he'll usually put you in madness 3 and/or down you, then when you're in madness 3 you have to let him find you again (ie, risk being downed or put back into madness 3) before being able to go back to doing a gen.

From what I've heard regarding the Doctor, he might be based on a guy who advocated and used ECT as a “cure” for “Internet Addictions”, troubled children sent there by their own parents. (Which correlates well with Doc's corresponding survivor being Feng Min)
As of today, his facility has been shut down, but whether he did it to lure in money, firmly believed he was doing the right thing or just enjoyed the whole thing is unknown.

My list of the evilest Killers in Dead by Daylight
1: Herman Carter "The Doctor" is the top number 1 because like you said, he's a sadist power-driven maniac who will stop at nothing to feel more powerful than inferior people
2: Michael Myers "The Shape" is a murderer and is considered evil because he kills for no reason, he just kills because he just feels like it, evil is inside the shell of a man
3: Freddy Krueger "The Nightmare" used to do some bad things to kids and then got burned by the parents out of revenge. But then he came back for revenge by becoming a dream demon, he got what he deserved for what he did to those kids but he wants to make them pay for burning him
4: Anna "The Huntress" is what I think might be evil because she just kills people as a sport for hunting
5: Danny "The Ghostface" just murders because it's fun, despite that the iconic Ghostface is a symbol of someone's vengeance
6: Ji-Woon Hak "The Trickster" kills not just for fun but for attention and fame, he records the screams of his victims to his music
7: Caleb Quinn "The Deathslinger" kills either because he sees Survivors as a bounty or because he's enraged with vengeance but every time he hits a Survivor or damages a pallet, wall, or gen he just chuckles and laughs
8: Kenneth Chase "The Clown" kills because as a friend told me, he does it because he likes feeling the life of someone at his grasp. Aaaaaaaaaand because he has a fetish for fingers
9: Amanda Young "The Pig" murders people because she believes they aren't redeemable, she is a misanthropist. Despite the fact that Jigsaw was teaching her that the games he makes are a way to punish their sins and crimes so they may be worthy of redemption but Amanda went against his true goals and just kills people because she believes they aren't redeemable
10: Pyramid Head "The Executioner" is not a person, he or she is a monster manifested from the need for punishment.

"What the Hell did he do?"
See, this is one of the best ways to make a character, or a setting of some sort terrifying.
Yeah boi, I've been saying that the doctor is the most terrifying killer. Btw I love your vids so much. Keep uploading my man.👍
I find a fantastic yet horrifying piece of his design is his weapon.
(Been waiting for this video) This is why I love my boy Herman. He fits the horror genre perfectly.
Downplaying ones own flaws by exaggerating the obvious ones in others is not good, though, so I should be mindful still of being a bad person. for my own personal, the doctor's archive is my favorite so far. there is nothing more terrifying than actual history, and incorporating it into the lore gives the characters a sense of realism.
and... maybe i guess... he wants true freedom to such an extreme degree since, according to his timeline, he would have grown up during the Jim Crow laws era... and you know...
as a result of being oppressed, he yearned for more freedom. and he ignored the rules because rules are frequently written by a group of individuals to support that group.
the more oppressed, the greater need for freedom, and the more he needed to rise to the top of the law. perhaps this was why he tried so hard to convince himself that he was the best.
thx to make this video! and i wish you much motivation for everything you want to do! take care!

You also gotta note his breathing, he sounds like he's in pain but yet he laughs time to time
Besides Myers, he’s the most sadistic/twisted EVIL killer, the one killer I would not want to face irl.
I love how (almost) every character analysis video you make makes me appreciate the subjects in them a good deal more, even if I already loved them! (i.e, Kazan.)
Crazy how I used to be so scared of the Doctor when I first started playing, and now hes my favourite character in the game.
The doctor may devoid of most redeeming qualities, But I, for one, Respect his determination.
When I first played, the two killers that were the scariest for me were the Hag and the Doctor, definitely.
DBD was half-off on switch a week ago, so I downloaded and started playing, and now I can't stop watching DBD Lore videos. Keep it up! 👍
I was overconfident going into this video, I am genuinely creeped out.
Absolutely love it, good work!
I was not at all aware of doc being inspired by a real life horror story, like clown is. That's crazy. Good vid man.
Doctor is in my opinion hands down the scariest killer in dead by daylight. He is a true psycho that takes delight in torturing and experimenting on those around him. Also I love doctor game play #DOCTOR MAINS
This man’s whole face is stuck in permanently in smile mode when I hear him laugh it’s un settling
i've known about that chinese doctor for a few years now after seeing a video taken outside of children screaming from inside his hospital, had no clue the doctor was inspired by him
You put such care, and detail into your videos. Thank you for all you do
Damn I was the wraith in the conga line Meg game, thanks for a good laugh
thank u for ur service lore man
He is one of the best and finest creations in DbD for sure. If not even the very best. He is so incredibly good designed in every aspect.
you put so much effort into your videos mate!
You know you've done something wrong when you're successfully voted to become a killer in a video game
I already know some of the doctors lore and its scary as shit and I cant wait to see the analysis on it that makes him even more terrifying
A mad scientist that laughs when he does his experiments no remorse and has the face and body horror to go with it. Yes the doctor is one of the scariest killers in the game. Great video subbed
He's scary because you instantly stop having fun as soon as you play against him :>
this is why most survivors hate going against a good doctor. because the doctor has more control over a game than most people realize. Once a doctor main or someone whos playing as doctor realizes that you can control the match, or at aim the fate of the game in a direction, you can use this to make survivors make mistakes.
Who would win?
Powerful deities who have thousands of years of history and left to grow in fears of humans.
Or.
One shocky boi.
Doctor always takes me back, and I’m glad his lore is still just as good. he was my first killer as well.
My leg is twitching and my hands feel numb just from watching this medical horror is terrifying and that facts that people like the doctor exist and that thing like mk ultra go unpunished is terrible and makes my skin crawl
I love how you have the pride thing on your hook:)
As a doc main that rework for him is still one of the best updates in my eyes
After hundreds of hours of DBD, doctor is still the scariest killer for all the reasons you listed. I work in behavior modification myself for my work (but ethically, never using electroshock or any physical punishment) and if you saw the stuff that medical professionals did in the 70s that is public knowledge, you will know the doctor is a very real person. Amazing video, you definitely earned a new fan.
This is such a well-made video, you should be really proud of yourself my man, earned a sub! Good job!
Medical horror is scary, imagine having your brains literally fucking fried like toast, body parts chopped off, the thing that makes you, you being cut into two pieces, making it harder for you to function; imagine having your eyes pryed open, your bones broken, going through constant unbearable pain from being shocked constantly
Utterly terrifying
This video make the Doctor even scarier in my eyes! Also - the conga Meg at the end 🤣
2:15 Doric, Ionic, Corinthian? My Ancient History A-level comes in handy from time to time.
I don't dream of video games often, but I have had 2 nightmares about dbd killers coming after me, and it has been the doctor and Billy together both times
2 killer mode confirmed
Fun fact. The only reason those MK Ultra files survived the mass destruction is because some gorverment employee accidentally filed them in the wrong place. So we only know about all this evil because of one chump’s mistake. :)
“Accidentally” Coincidence? I THINK NOT!
They should give the dbd personnel their own horror movies. I think a movie about wraith would be so sick
10:28 When i first head that phrase, i thought "So mind control?"
The device on Herman's face he used to torture must have been forced on him by the Entity for not cooperating.
i love ur videos, this us truly a monday treat
