I love some apples, yum! I have the apple peeler, but mine has the clamp instead of the suction cup on the bottom, best little time saver. Thanks for sharing and God Bless!
I used to dehydrate 60 pounds (fresh) yearly. That was my chore at the house. We used them to make fried apple pies all winter. Also stick your peeler to a cookie sheet and put the sheet on non-slip shelf paper it will catch the juice in the tray. Clean up us much easier that way. Or you can pour up the juice and drink it.
Great video as always. Those apple & pear chips look delicious & obviously they're healthier than anything found in the stores. Thanks for sharing this video & I can't wait to see the next one. Hope all is well!!! ~Pete~
I love watching your vids... you sound like a good friend of mine that died a few years back, he also lived in texas so you both have some of the same accents.. take care and thank you for the vids you put out..
Can you please make a video of your building your dehydrator? I'd like to see how you do it. I have an excalibar, but would love to make me one that air dries.
What I've done is instead of lemon I mix 1/2c honey with 1/4c water add teas Cinnamon and dip my apples in mixture. Drain and place on dryer trays. You can soak your trays in warm soapy water and they come clean for next time. They dried up crunchy and so yummy. Did this with bananas too.
@@BIGALTX Take your peels and cores, put them in a quart jar, and cover them with water. (I use bottled) Cover with 2 layers of cheesecloth and put on the ring to hold it (or a good rubber band). Store in a cool, dark place, and swirl every day for a couple weeks to a month. It will ferment into perfect ACV.
Thanks for the vid. Do the apples really need pealing? What about just take the pips out and thats it. I dont mind them turning brown either. They're still sweet and nice after turning brown.
Hiya Tex. Gotta question and a couple of comments. I more often hear of people using acidulated water (lemon juice+water 50/50) as a browning inhibitor. Was there any noticeable taste using straight lemon juice? First comment is about where you mentioned the possibility of sprinkling with sugar and wondering how it might turn out. It seems to me that since sugar is hygroscopic it may change the ability of fruit to stay dehydrated. Here is what I think may happen. You dehydrate them as usual and are even able to dehydrate them until they are crispy. You store them in a mason jar with a desiccant pack and they are fine. Eventually you open the jar and pour them into a bowl for guests to enjoy. The extra sugar, being Hygroscopic pulls moisture out of the air faster than it would without thereby turning your once crispy apple chips leathery a lot faster than they would without the extra sugar. It might even cause the once pristine white apple chips to turn brown after they are removed from the sealed jar with the desiccant. Just my thought on that. Next thought is. I betcha you could still put the peels into a Cider Press, although it still might help to pass them through the apple grinder portion (or a few pulses in a food processor). It wouldn't be as much juice as the whole apples but it might be enough to be worth it.
The lemon juice did make them a little tart, but once they were dehydrated, it wasn't too bad (the apples were a little tart to begin with). So, using a 50/50 mix would probably be better. Not sure about the sugar, but you make some good points. I'll research it before I try it. Don't have a fruit press... yet...
I got a peeler slicer and I put the apple against the corer to align it and use the quick release to bring the prongs up to the apple. It is quicker to load and the apple is aligned better. Good luck.
The wife just got my Excalibur dehydrator in the mail. Caint wait to get back to Tx to get this puppy fired up... Took y'are word on this one. So let's see what we got.
Not at all. The ones with cinnamon stuck a little bit, but not bad. I just soaked the white screens in the sink for an hour or so and ran a brush over them. I put the black trays in the dishwasher on "rinse only" and they came out OK. I don't think you're supposed to run them a full cycle in the dishwasher, though.
I was just talking about breaking out the dehydrator and doing up some apples & bananas. So this video is timely. Thanks, TexasPrepper2 for sharing I'm going to try that 50/50 lemon juice/water, so thanks for sharing that, Herfmonster
Be careful with the seeds in the cores going to the chickens, can be deadly! Also, sometimes the seeds are still left in the apple with this machine if the apples are a bit lopsided.
I was playing with the dehydrator a while back (I have the 5 tray excalibur and don't use it nearly enough) and thought I'd try some apples. On some, I did sprinkle a cinnamon and white sugar mixture on top. It made a heck of a sticky mess! As the moisture was drawn out of the apples, the sugar soaked it up and everything was sticky. It did taste much better than the plain apple chips, though. I am thinking that maybe sprinkling the sugar after some of the moisture is already gone might work better. Not tried it yet though.
As soon as I can get some extra $$ put away, the Excalibur is on the list. Gonna take me awhile I'm afraid. Anybody want to buy a house, no so cheap? ;)
I haven't tried dehydrating apples yet, but I will, nice demo!
Great info. I just picked up that dehydrator and gonna start dehydrating apples this week. I've got a lot to learn and this was super helpful.
I take the pealings and dehydrate then also and when dry I grind them for apple sugar/powder.
+1 for the Excalibur dehydrator. We have one, and it's been absolutely fantastic.

Wish I knew about your channel before. Awesome!!!
Wow... Thanks for the kind words and... Welcome aboard!
I like the way this guy talks

I love dehydrated apples, and I also love the bible verses you put up before your videos. Thank you for that. I love them.
Pretty awesome!! We can't wait till our apple and orange tree's start producing...
Can't afford a dehydrator so I'm gonna make one! Just seeing the fruit makes my mouth water. I gotta do this!
Can you please make a video of your building your dehydrator? I'd like to see how you do it. I have an excalibar, but would love to make me one that air dries.
Sure. I'll add it to my list of stuff to do. LOL! You know I love doing these things...
Yes I do, so do I, LOL
Susan Rogers seen someone using there car dashboard facing the sun.
I'd say that would be more like cooking than anything, it gets really hot in a car. I just had some soda cans explode in my trunk yesterday.
Omg I LOVE dehydrated apples!
Looks good my friend!

Love that peeler. Those cores and peels ought to be headed for making apple cider vinegar.
How do you make apple cider vinegar?
Rachel Wiltrout I don't know... I've never tried to make it... sorry

Just under $10 for the corer/peeler- not a bad deal. I'll be giving it a workout in a couple days. Thanks!
I think you'll like it! 👍😎
We have a dehydrator.. how long will the apples keep in the jars? I love your videos!!!
I use my peeling and cores for making jelly, before the chickens enjoy them, just a thought
Apples with cinnamon and brown sugar!...can't beat 'em.
Thanks for the vid. Do the apples really need pealing? What about just take the pips out and thats it. I dont mind them turning brown either. They're still sweet and nice after turning brown.
Some folks DO leave the peelings on... your choice...

Love this video......just for fun ...bury the cores.......

Do you know if they keep long term?
Thank you for the video!
Yes they do... not sure how long because too many factors (light, temp, humidity, etc) contribute to longevity.
Is it a lot of trouble cleaning the dehydrator trays, afterward? Have you found a best way to do it? TIA

very informative real nice ordered the peeler. thanks just subscribed to your channel

You could add some sugar or honey and or cinnamon in the lemon juice then you will get a more consistent product.
Is that straight lemon juice?
Yep...
@@BIGALTX Thank You, I just ordered one of those apple peeler/corer/slicer/ can't wait to try it out. And a dehydrator.
I purchased this peeler from QVC. You can use pineapple juice - instead of lemon juice - on ALL fruits - to keep/help it's sweetness.
your voice!💛💚💚💚
Does this slice without peeling?
No.
It cores and peels at the same time.
This will: amzn.to/3bleHYh
1979discodiva yes you have to remove peeler
You can make apple peel jelly with the skins and cores!
Love em.
Be careful with the seeds in the cores going to the chickens, can be deadly! Also, sometimes the seeds are still left in the apple with this machine if the apples are a bit lopsided.
Are you still dehydrating things??
It's been a while, but yes...

Apples peels and cores can, also, be made into Apple Cider Vinegar real easily.
