i know this is Sting's, and always thought the original was iconic, but man, this sounds like a fit made in heaven. Rufus has never sounded better, the song and his voice are made for each other. ''what a voice!''....
The way Rufus moves, his outfit, his voice. I finally appreciated the lyrics for the first time - he made them sound sinister and alluring. So incredible!
I was lucky enough to be at this gig, many many top musicians, not just singing but playing, this remediation of wrapped around your finger blew everyone away, not just Sting and the band but the audience too….
I've listened to this so many times, it's absurd. LOL I'm always sad for the guitarist at the end, he looks like he wanted to tell Rufus how wonderful that was. I hope he did get to, lol.
Rufus' breath control not only with his vibrato, and dead-on pitch, but the length of time he can exhale the words, to then instantly recover for the next phrase is really spectacular
@@qhubbles you are precisely correct! I just researched it and found that he was very interested in opera in his teens. No doubt he used the techniques he learned to enhance his pop singing style. Good catch!
I return to this video from time to time and it never fails to delight. I have always enjoyed this song from its initial release to this this magical rendition. Rufus' voice just soars over the wide beautiful landscape of the piece, the band weaves in a rich, complex, and satisfying arrangement, and the lyrics are as mysterious and thought provoking today as ever. An absolute gem.
Agreed! My only, very small, quibble is that he flubs the pronunciation of the (Ancient Greek) monster ‘Charybdis’ in the first verse-it should have a hard ‘k’ on the first syllable. Sting gets it right.
I've been listening to music now for 46 years, and I must say I don't think I've ever heard a man sing more beautiful than Rufus in this very very beautiful version of "Wrapped..."...Mindblowing experience.
Wow. That 3rd verse build up is simply amazing. The arrangement is stunning. Rufus’s voice is otherworldly. It was meant for this song. Truly one of the most incredible performances I’ve ever heard. A truly special moment. So glad they captured it so I can listen to it thousands of times.
Stunning vocals - left me speechless! It’s like this song was written so that Rufus would one day come along and do it justice like no other ever could.
@@KristineMaitland This feels, different, like it represents what it is like when everyone is on the same page, living up to their own potentials but together. I just wish Sting would decided whether he wants to look like walking death with the skin head, or a human with hair, Please pick one so I'll know whether to continue being a fan or not.
Just play this over and over and over again. Just an amazing rendition of a song that I thought was "OK" when The Police released it but Rufus just grabbed it and made it unique with his soaring crystal clear vocals and wonderful diction. The song has literally been wrapped around his wonderful vocal chords and Sting can never get it back. Rufus, it's yours forever for me.
This is my first time hearing Rufus sing, and WOW. His voice is absolutely fantastic! He’s possibly the only other person besides Sting who can do this song justice!
I just can't... stunning. vibrant. passionate. surreal. ethereal. Thank you Sting for this amazing song I've adored since I was 12, that has somehow found it's way to the voice that you knew we'd go ga-ga over hearing! RUFUS, WHAT A VOICE!
What a privilege it is to be able to listen and witness these types of utter platinum class performances. When you consider the quality of musicians here, and also Sting's pedigree and unreal vocals, Rufus absolutely nailed this. So pure and the mix is great. The build up from 3.29 if fantastic too - really good arrangement and I love it when you can see Sting appreciate and sometimes be in awe of other musicians. This is a perfect marriage. Additionally, another treat is George Michaels live version of Rufus's Going To A Town - unreal.
This rendition has captivated me. I have replayed this every day for 2 weeks. Mr. Wainwright clearly wanted to honor Sting on his birthday, and offered up a clear, precise, emotional, brilliant performance. Stunning.
Have been listening to it every day for the last couple of weeks. Getting me through lockdown. At 3:32 we're all the backup vocalist on the left, her smile says it all.
Absolutely, Bridget 😊 He has done more than his part to entertain us during this global crisis (and I love how he dresses too! Lol). ❤️ from Los Angeles, Cali
This is it! My student asked me what my favourite song is... it is this :-) Never ever tired of it, just beautiful. I also love the smiles of the band appreciating it all and swaying along. Life should be like this.
Rufus has this silly little way of putting such power and emotion behind a seemingly lazy mouth.. rolling on and off of words, seeming to be both effortless and extremely purposeful at the same time. Such a unique sound, and one that blends in so well with Sting’s wall of sound that is also just enough, but not too much.. all at the same time. Nicely done.
Stumbled upon this one while browsing RUclips and my! I was in for the greatest surprise. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard recently. Have been listening to it several times in a row. God bless Rufus and Sting for his generosity. May they present more such beautiful music for us forever.
If Rufus would've kept the "be" in "I'll be wrapped..." short then it wouldn't have sounded as flegmatic as this vocal rendition was. The orchestration/arrangement was up and above though.
I just realized that he re--recorded the vocals for the video, though. If you watch carefully the vocals aren’t perfectly in synch! This is by far the best cover I’ve ever heard and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to it! I’m not knocking the re-recording at all. His voice is so gorgeous. I’ll never tire of it! "You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the Scylla and Charibdes
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger
I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they would not teach me of in college
I can see the destiny you sold turned into a shining band of gold
I'll be wrapped around your finger
I'll be wrapped around your finger
Mephistopheles is not your name
I know what you're up to just the same
I will listen hard to your tuition
You will see it come to its fruition
I'll be wrapped around your finger
I'll be wrapped around your finger
Devil and the deep blue sea behind me
Vanish in the air you'll never find me
I will turn your face to alabaster
When you'll find your servant is your master
You'll be wrapped around my finger
You'll be wrapped around my finger
You'll be wrapped around my finger"
