Gianmarco Da Molin You clearly paid attention to nothing. The b.sword, bomb, and stitch did absolutely nothing. What screwed m2k up was his mentality level. In the beginning of the set, m2k was doing great. But towards the end, his anger grew which led him to lose all of his patience. It had a negative effect in his gameplay.
That's no excuse at this point and time where M2K does this for a living and has the discipline to solidify his mental game, where as we mortal spectators don't have to do that. The items Armada pulled barely affected M2K in terms of racking up damage. No Johns, Armada straight up outplayed M2K in a LOSING MATCHUP, where Armada's mental game is incredible for keeping composure to the plethora of things that's unfair for Peach in the Marth MU. This is coming from a Marth main, and Armada 100% deserved his win. Don't be a whiny M2K fanboy.
M2k had a way better chance of winning gf against armada than mango. You can clearly see how M2k's anger affected his gameplay. Overall, worst Genesis ever in my opinion. It's unreal seeing Armada winning 3-0 GF against Mang0 and making it look easy. Armada starting strong 2017, great sets in this tournament (Leffen vs Mango had me on the edge).
Armada's Peach play is specifically engineered to be absolutely mentally draining and demoralizing. You're just looking for an opening but there isn't one, and you live in constant fear of being touched or even grazed by and of his attacks because then you'll be manhandled offstage and then edgeguarded to death. But it's a slow death, because he edgeguards you repeatedly to take the stock. All you want to do is get on stage but he we won't let you. Then you finally die and his Peach is at 200% and now you're getting frustrated and just want his stock to end so you do more stupid shit and now you're jumping into downsmashes and he's stuffing every scramble situation with annoying jabs and you're taking damage and losing stocks even faster and then the game's over and you fee like you didn't even get to play so you just hit start again as soon as he's ready and now you're still in the ental state of wanting to just finish his stocks so you're nairing into his downsmashes or throwing out dumb moves right infront of him getting grabbed and then you just stop playing and cry on the floor in a ball while Armada teabags you with turnips.

There is no argument, Armada is the G.O.A.T of melee. He has winning head to head record with everyone, won every major and super major tournament series and have been the consistently ranked no.1 longer than anyone else.

Took sets off of Ken, M2K, Armada, Hbox and Zain, all in their dominant eras. Won a major at 16 and is still going strong 15 years later. Armada retired. There is no way around it. Since then, Mang0 has won majors and supermajors alike. If we are saying that greatness is determined by amount won in the shortest amount of time, then we would put Zain over M2K, but we don't. Greatness looks at the longevity of the player as well as their wins. Had Armada not retired and kept competing at a top 8 level, then he would be the definitive greatest.
quickfireyt I left right after winners finals. I was just plain sad after that. Seeing M2K barely lose the second to last game and get shut out the last game was just too depressing for me. I didn't have it in me to watch up to grand finals even if he DID make the climb back.
Armada with the Genesis 3peat. Mango nation in shambles again. It's absolutely incredible how consistent this guy is. He does not lose to anyone outside of the Top 6. Mango played incredible against Leffen and M2K, but Armada is just way too damn good. Even if you hate Armada you have to give credit where credit is due. He's currently the best in the world right now, and he's my pick for the greatest smash Melee player of all time.
This is a lot like the last set of Genesis 1 when you think about it. The player who deserved to win won, and did so convincingly, even if it does mean that the hypest stuff took place in other sets. It's still sad to see all those dislikes though; it makes it look like people don't appreciate just how incredible the set is. I've never seen Mango brickwalled so hard when he's coming into a set still riding high on his losers' bracket groove. You'll often hear people say that Mango at his peak is the best (or maybe Leffen), and that it's Armada's consistency that makes him the overall best... But the Armada seen in this set *IS* the top of Melee's totem pole.
Besides Armada being generally sick, I felt like he was doing the "he's gonna do something sub-optimal" read the entire game and capitalized almost every time

I disagree. There are so few people who watch tournament streams without knowing anything about Smash. And if they don't, they'll just learn what they need to learn later. Grand Finals is not the time to learn all that. For me, a commentator needs to bring hype to the match, bring something additionnal. D1 is the kind of commentator who will always make you feel how amazing the combos are. Scar will just be like "Yeah Armada is so solid so consistent right he's so good at keeping composure and blah blah blah blah blah" until he suddenly screams a random "OH BUT TOURNAMENT WINNER !!" before starting with his bullshit all over again. Leeeroy Jenkinnns I agree with what you are saying, I love Prog as commentator but sometimes he's trying to hard. Blur is awesome at commentating, he does exactly what I love, bringing hype while still covering gameplay theory. You know he knows a lot about the game and the community, but he's not constantly trying to show it like Scar and Toph do all the time. D1/Blur is the best commentator combo to me. My favorite set they commentated together was Manga - Armada at GOML. You can feel them getting hype and actually getting scared for both players in tight situations. To put it simply, to me a good commentator is someone who makes good comments but acts like a spectator, who just like you wants to see awesome Melee, not show everyone how much you know or how long you have been around.
So I couldn't help feeling that this should have turned out like the Rurouni Kenshin fight with Shishio where Kenshin gets rekt but he had two crazy hard fights before and got tired. He couldn't handle Shishio who was rested and ready. I wanted Hbox, and M2k to come out and get beat by Armada again before Leffen comes out as Aoshi. "The Mang0 wasted precious energy on me, I will fight in place of his lost strength." Then as Leffen falls Mang0 stands back pupil less with controller clutched in hand and unleashes his ultimate falco switch technique that he learned from PP on a mountain....Anyone with video editing please get on this.
i see a lot of people saying armada is on a tier of his own but i think otherwise. genesis 4 has shown us that m2k and s2j are just a little short or just as great. old players like Chudat showing that no one should sleep on them. s2j has some time to catch up, but m2k IS there, he could easily beat armada as we saw, but only if he doesn't get overwhelmed with his mistakes. it's ironic we call m2k "the robot" when he is the most emotional player. mango is either happy or not when he plays, hbox is similar as well. mango, i love how he plays, but i have no idea why gf went so fast. the melee landscape is changing, mango nation is struggling, the mew2kingdom is constantly at war with itself and doubting its capabilities, the realm of hbox is slowly being encroached upon with losses beginning to show, and the Armada empire is slowly being chipped away. new players are coming into power and causing upsets across the board. will PPMD save us, will m2k ever win a major national, will Mango reclaim Genesis for America, or will a new upstart come out of nowhere? tune in to Genesis 5 to find out.

M2k had a way better chance of winning gf against armada than mango. You can clearly see how M2k's anger affected his gameplay. Overall, worst Genesis ever in my opinion. Shitty melee GF and Isai not giving a fuck as usual. He didn't even make it to top 8... Only thing I liked about G4 is that Zero didn't place 1st in sm4sh.

Armada's Peach play is specifically engineered to be absolutely mentally
draining and demoralizing. You're just looking for an opening but there
isn't one, and you live in constant fear of being touched or even
grazed by and of his attacks because then you'll be manhandled offstage
and then edgeguarded to death. But it's a slow death, because he
edgeguards you repeatedly to take the stock. All you want to do is get
on stage but he we won't let you. Then you finally die and his Peach is
at 200% and now you're getting frustrated and just want his stock to end
so you do more stupid shit and now you're jumping into downsmashes and
he's stuffing every scramble situation with annoying jabs and you're
taking damage and losing stocks even faster and then the game's over and
you fee like you didn't even get to play so you just hit start again as
soon as he's ready and now you're still in the ental state of wanting
to just finish his stocks so you're nairing into his downsmashes or
throwing out dumb moves right infront of him getting grabbed and then
you just stop playing and cry on the floor in a ball while Armada
teabags you with turnips.

There is no argument, Armada is the G.O.A.T of melee. He has winning head to head record with everyone, won every major and super major tournament series and have been the consistently ranked no.1 longer than anyone else.

Took sets off of Ken, M2K, Armada, Hbox and Zain, all in their dominant eras.
Won a major at 16 and is still going strong 15 years later.
Armada retired. There is no way around it.
Since then, Mang0 has won majors and supermajors alike.
If we are saying that greatness is determined by amount won in the shortest amount of time, then we would put Zain over M2K, but we don't.
Greatness looks at the longevity of the player as well as their wins.
Had Armada not retired and kept competing at a top 8 level, then he would be the definitive greatest.

I left right after winners finals. I was just plain sad after that. Seeing M2K barely lose the second to last game and get shut out the last game was just too depressing for me. I didn't have it in me to watch up to grand finals even if he DID make the climb back.

Armada with the Genesis 3peat. Mango nation in shambles again. It's absolutely incredible how consistent this guy is. He does not lose to anyone outside of the Top 6. Mango played incredible against Leffen and M2K, but Armada is just way too damn good. Even if you hate Armada you have to give credit where credit is due. He's currently the best in the world right now, and he's my pick for the greatest smash Melee player of all time.

This is a lot like the last set of Genesis 1 when you think about it. The player who deserved to win won, and did so convincingly, even if it does mean that the hypest stuff took place in other sets.
It's still sad to see all those dislikes though; it makes it look like people don't appreciate just how incredible the set is. I've never seen Mango brickwalled so hard when he's coming into a set still riding high on his losers' bracket groove. You'll often hear people say that Mango at his peak is the best (or maybe Leffen), and that it's Armada's consistency that makes him the overall best... But the Armada seen in this set *IS* the top of Melee's totem pole.

Awful choice of commentators. I hate how Toph and especially Scar will always talk about random stuff no one cares about right when the craziest combo will happen. Scar is loud and annoying, unintersting, and Toph is just blindly following him. I didn't know it was possible but they ruined a Grand Finals that sucked already
I disagree. There are so few people who watch tournament streams without knowing anything about Smash. And if they don't, they'll just learn what they need to learn later. Grand Finals is not the time to learn all that. For me, a commentator needs to bring hype to the match, bring something additionnal. D1 is the kind of commentator who will always make you feel how amazing the combos are. Scar will just be like "Yeah Armada is so solid so consistent right he's so good at keeping composure and blah blah blah blah blah" until he suddenly screams a random "OH BUT TOURNAMENT WINNER !!" before starting with his bullshit all over again. It's just so annoying to hear those 2 commentate. They ruined EVO 2016 Top 8 as well.

They're talking way more about the gameplay than HMW and Phil, though... One of the top most hyped commentators is definitely Blur. Have you seen Top 4 Doubles? Damn. He's focused on the gameplay and hyped up. I mean, Leffen vs Mango was well commentated by Toph and Scar, too, don't you think?
Shitty mics? The "echoing" was no echoing. The mics simply were connected to the stream and the audience in the hall, that's all. But I get where you're coming from. I don't like that the audience in the ahll can hear what they are saying either.
Leeeroy Jenkinnns I agree with what you are saying, I love Prog as commentator but sometimes he's trying to hard. Blur is awesome at commentating, he does exactly what I love, bringing hype while still covering gameplay theory. You know he knows a lot about the game and the community, but he's not constantly trying to show it like Scar and Toph do all the time. D1/Blur is the best commentator combo to me. My favorite set they commentated together was Manga - Armada at GOML. You can feel them getting hype and actually getting scared for both players in tight situations. To put it simply, to me a good commentator is someone who makes good comments but acts like a spectator, who just like you wants to see awesome Melee, not show everyone how much you know or how long you have been around.

So I couldn't help feeling that this should have turned out like the Rurouni Kenshin fight with Shishio where Kenshin gets rekt but he had two crazy hard fights before and got tired. He couldn't handle Shishio who was rested and ready. I wanted Hbox, and M2k to come out and get beat by Armada again before Leffen comes out as Aoshi. "The Mang0 wasted precious energy on me, I will fight in place of his lost strength." Then as Leffen falls Mang0 stands back pupil less with controller clutched in hand and unleashes his ultimate falco switch technique that he learned from PP on a mountain....Anyone with video editing please get on this.

i see a lot of people saying armada is on a tier of his own but i think otherwise. genesis 4 has shown us that m2k and s2j are just a little short or just as great. old players like Chudat showing that no one should sleep on them. s2j has some time to catch up, but m2k IS there, he could easily beat armada as we saw, but only if he doesn't get overwhelmed with his mistakes. it's ironic we call m2k "the robot" when he is the most emotional player. mango is either happy or not when he plays, hbox is similar as well. mango, i love how he plays, but i have no idea why gf went so fast. the melee landscape is changing, mango nation is struggling, the mew2kingdom is constantly at war with itself and doubting its capabilities, the realm of hbox is slowly being encroached upon with losses beginning to show, and the Armada empire is slowly being chipped away. new players are coming into power and causing upsets across the board. will PPMD save us, will m2k ever win a major national, will Mango reclaim Genesis for America, or will a new upstart come out of nowhere? tune in to Genesis 5 to find out.
