While this is a sad situation, I am glad you decided to made this video. It can be a reality check for some of us who only know enough to be dangerous.
Travis was a good guy i fought fires with him in 2008. still remember when he pushed me into the ocean on r&r accidentally wrecking the phone in my pocket. I still wear the fire complex sweatshirt he gave to me to replace my phone. Godspeed Travis RIP.
In the forest we have close calls all the time and we never think about it. Me at 300lbs I danced around a lot falling of trees. Trees under pressure, stay safe live long and prosper. Enjoy every day. My best times in my life was in the forest with my firewood selling business. People today don’t know what hard work is.
Thanks for sharing Jack. We lost a colleague in a logging truck a couple months ago. We have a tribute on our board that keeps him in our hearts. My prayers are with you and his family. Be safe and thanks for the vids.
powerful video. this hits really close to home since ive lost a couple cutting partners over the years. stay safe out there guys, and never take shortcuts out in the brush. always clear those escape trails, be aware of your surroundings, and keep those cuts clean on the stump.
Our hearts are sad that we lost another one of the good ones. Logger Wade also lost a good friend the other day and I lost a couple back when I was in the woods back in the 70s. A kind thought for them and their families, makes me feel blessed that I knew them.
Thank you for sharing this, and for reminding all of us who work in the tree work industry to remain vigilant about safety. God bless. Rest In Peace, Travis. My condolences to his family and friends.
Jack, I keep coming back to this video from time to time to remember your friend and coworker and to be thankful for God's grace and to offer a prayer for your safety.
Everyday I put my spurs into a tree..I thank God for the chance to do what I love to do. Everytime I hit the ground..I thank God I get another night I get to spend with my familly. Sorry for your loss boss, logger wade just lost a friend as well. Happens far to often.
Victorious victor may the Lord bless you and keep you brother be safe don't put him to the test! it's important to recognize that. it is God who sustains us. life is short than comes judgment it doesn't matter how kind we are because God's standard is perfection to call us righteous. that's why he gave us Jesus the great saviour! keep those undercuts Dutchman free brother!
It happens, and it sucks everytime. All the best to his dad, wife, kids, and all those who called Travis a friend. I'm sure he would have approved of your tribute, as hard as I'm sure it was doing it. Rip
Sorry to hear about Travis! I lost a good friend years ago. I couldn't go back and finish up where it happened. keep your head on a swivel and be safe. from a fellow logger Al.
We lost my boss PJ Patterson in July 2016.. Him and I were 30 feet apart cutting poles for McFarland out of Cottage Grove Oregon. He tried to smash a maple but the fir rocked and slid back on him. Best faller i knew and still the hardest 5 years of my life since that day. Miss him everyday.
nice kind words to tribute a good man Jack, in a way what an honor to Travis for you to finish his strip but, what an SOB too that it's in that. too many lost guys in the woods, but there's stored energy everywhere and unexplainable chit happens. man............no words. sorry for his family, praying strength and understanding while Travis finds 'every loggers reward' also sorry and praying for you Jack to go the site and finish Travis's strip and the loss of a fairly close friend it sounds and a kind humble man. prayers again from central Oregon............safe cuttin
sorry for your loss, a fitting video tribute, i am lucky to have never lost a work buddy in nearly twenty years but seen some pretty close calls, I will say a prayer for him and his family
Awesome tribute Jack! Another fallen brother whether it be a US Marine like myself(or any service member for that matter) logger, tree climber arborist, Travis will never be forgotten his legacy of memories will forever live in the forest. I obviously didn’t know him personally, I just pray he pasted on doing something what he loved.
Deepest sympathy to you. In my 50+ years of logging hardwoods in the Blue Ridge of S.W Va., I came close to death far too many times. God is Good and Gracious! We do a job that has to be done and no one wants to do it. Cut more tombstone and widow makers than I care to remember. I just thank God every day we all walk out of the forest at the end of the day. BTW we've lost 7 loggers this year in Virginia. The last one was a green buck who wanted to show himself to the sawboss. Simple cut job for us, but on his third tree, he got his face torn off by butt kick back. He had lots of blood loss but died of infection. Lookin forward to meeting you someday in the big forest up there. Numbers are against me. I'll probably go that way too. Stay safe. From the bottom of this ol loggers heart, God Bless you son.
It always hurts to loose a good friend . We go out in the woods to support our family’s and loved ones never really knowing if God will call it our last day. I can only pray we’ll have big trees and flat land in Heaven
As many videos as I watch I can tell this one hit home it's a shockwave felt tru out the entire logging community & especially the west coast hope the family knows he was doing the work of God and for that my he rest n Pease hope your ok jack keep falling w great expectations that where cleaning the forest one tree at a time much love u loggers of America keep ur helmet on
O my King Jesus! it's so wonderful watching your vids and hearing your love of our Father may he keep you in His hands of safety and bless all those who comment acknowledging Jesus and our Father. Just fills my heart with joy ❤️
pj Patterson lost his life on the strip not too long ago up here near cottage grove.a young cutter I know was with him when it happened . we've lost good men this year.be safe brother
There is a term "Blood Diamonds". And we can appreciate the value of timber when the getting of it costs a man's life. Doesn't hurt to pray for protection every morning.
i am sorry to hear about your loss and all those that knew good sir Cornelison. when the time is right, could someone share some of the details which could help limit the probability of another similar accident? i will guess for the time being that based by the standing tree with the scraps running down and broken top that the felling tree hit this tree and the top broke off and came back toward the feller. based on the stump does it look like he was trying to hit this close shot with the broken standing tree or something happened to cause the tree to miss the open lie a couple yards to the left; e.g. trying a difficult cut like a dutchman/sizwheel? i thank you or anyone who can shed a little light on this in advance. thank you for your time and live long and prosper all!
LC - I don't visit this video often, and haven't really done so much, since it was filmed. Travis was just a good kid. As far as I could tell Travis was either driving and trying to get some trees past that stub @ 1:18 or he had fell the tree that got him past that stub trying to knock a hanger out of it. You can see the weird shape in the crotch of the limb on the uphill side that is torn off. That took a lot of force. When the tree that killed him went into the stub it was probably a teepee type situation. Somehow it kicked back. But, it also came up the hill at the butt. I assume it was cantilevering in the stub as a result of the several unbucked trees + the one that got him on the uphill side under the large limb that was torn off. That is not a "normal" occurrence - for trees to come up the hill. The back part of the bole rubbed down a couple of standing trees that were a little in front and up from the stump. The butt came to rest on the uphill side and back behind the stump a few feet behind the stump from what I remember. I my estimation, Travis just glitched for a ½ second. I had guessed that he was preoccupied by something going on and was not focused. I've said for years: A timberfaller is only one thought process away from a das-aster. It's every second of everyday. I went on record stating you cannot be to careful while falling timber. On the other side of that, you should not ever be working scared. Knowing your skill set is paramount. Get a second opinion if there is any doubt would be my suggestion. Travis Cornelison, may he Rest In Peace.
Sorry for your loss, may he RIP. The national timber fellers association says ask yourself is what your about to do safe. We can never be too safe. Godbless.
MrSea2river hi. I do not have a link. Learn more in what capacity? The report should/will indicate the mechanics of what happened based on the determination of the writers' findings giving a result but not the precise cause - i.e., Travis was crushed under the butt of a 24" fir tree that kicked back because he failed to get out of the way - in short. Any actual factual representation is lost. This is because Travis is no long with us to speak for himself. The reality is, God may have called his number. Or, he either wanted to be done on this planet and stood there intentionally, underestimated the possible kickback severity of what looked like to be a drive attempt, or glitched mentally for a second or two after sending the fir tree in motion - aka, was thinking about something else besides the task at hand. Like his kids, his wife, both, or something else entirely. Travis fell for thirteen years and had a very good educator show him the ropes. If it was not the first thing mentioned, I would speculate that it was the last, having stood right there. I have said for years that a timberfaller is only one thought process away from disaster, every second you work, every day you pick up a saw. Sometimes the difference between life and death is a half second. What can be gleaned is that in the woods, stuff happens fast and that a guys' focus needs to be on point at all times. Even then, God may call your number. Thanks for watching.
I would love to know who this man is who finished my husband's strip and gave such a sweet tribute. Travis was a good man and I miss him dearly
so sorry for your loss Mam
It is Jack
So very sorry for your loss. I pray GOD and Jesus helps heal your heart and those of your Family and Friends. Take care and GOD Bless...

Condolences. Second logger to be taken this week.
very sorry for your loss. question for you how do I get a hold of you. for saw questions or I would like one of those 461 builds
i am sorry to hear about your loss and all those that knew good sir Cornelison.
when the time is right, could someone share some of the details which could help limit the probability of another similar accident?
i will guess for the time being that based by the standing tree with the scraps running down and broken top that the felling tree hit this tree and the top broke off and came back toward the feller. based on the stump does it look like he was trying to hit this close shot with the broken standing tree or something happened to cause the tree to miss the open lie a couple yards to the left; e.g. trying a difficult cut like a dutchman/sizwheel?

Andy hi. Sorry for you.
Yes sir. Not a good day, or week.
Thanks for watching, and your commiseration.
Sorry to read of this. Does anyone have a link to the investigation results so that we can learn more?
