- A documentary on Carl Barks, the creator of Scrooge McDuck; a man whose comic work continues to remain popular in reprints and whose narrative style has influenced the likes of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
"I like some of them."
what a sweetheart he was
Fantastic. Unca Carl was a genius, both in terms of writing and illustrating. His work is what drove me to eventually become a writer myself. We are blessed to have artists like Don Rosa who have been able to carry on his legacy and quality. It's a shame Mr. Rosa is not more appreciated.
I read Barks" stories as a kid in the 1970"s. However, DuckTales in 1987 renewed my love of Donald. and Scrooge!
I love this man. The reprints of his stories by Gladstone publishing in the late 80's kindled by fondness for writing and art -- which shaped my career and life today. He's a legend. And he is far less well-known that what is merited. When you've invented a character like Uncle Scrooge and you're the primary influence for people like Spielberg and Lucas, you know you're more than a muse -- you're a part of literary history.
Carl Barks, Will Eisner, Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Stan Sakai, Bill Watterson, Chris Claremont and Frank Miller are my favorite comic book writers. And of all them, Carl is my absolute favorite.
He was the best! Hope things are going well for you in Ducksburg bud!
we need carl barks biography movie, starting tom hanks as carl
My all time favourite is The Phantom of Notre Duck and my favourite 10 pager is the story where the boys try to get some money off Unca Donald by pretending to be echoes.
I know these paintings good as any fine art. I got some of them at the cover of my old comic books.
They should make a dokumentry about Carl Barks. Like the way they made the dokumentry of Ub Iwerks.
barks is the greatest comicbook artist in history (or a close second to jack kirby....)
thanks for posting this - awesome, awesome stuff
Barks is far bigger outside the USA.. most europeans have never heard of Kirby, but Barks is an icon.
Superhero comics are not very popular over here, if it wasn;t for the avalanche of super hero movies in the past 20 years most people wouldn't even know the main characters (except the most famous ones like Superman and Spiderman)
@charmy97 There's a lot to choose from. But I think Ghost of the Grotto, Vacation Time (1950), The Old Castle's Secret, Christmas for Shacktown and Only a Poor Old Man would be my Top 5.
@Michaletosjr I agree. But although he is not as well known, he is celebrated as being to Mickey what Barks was to the Duck family.
Carl Barks made Donald. I think he was a genius!!!!
I love Don Rosa :)
